I've been waiting for my grasshopper since the indiegogo campaign ended in December of 2013! What's a few more months I say. They're still posting updates, replying to email, and working hard at grasshopper labs hq. I've seen no indication that they're scamming people or in over their heads or on the verge of bankruptcy. The fact that they've made it this far still amazes me considering all the things that went wrong. Be patient and let them do their thing. It'll be ready when it's ready.

I subscribe to the "misery loves company" motto. :)

Besides, hearing news whether good, bad, new or regurgitated comforts me that the GH guys are still around rather than assuming false identities and in hiding. I don't subscribe to the They have money raised up the a**hole theory either. If anything, I worry they may not have enough.

I'll add my 2 cents...

Without going back to Trevor's email, I'm pretty sure he said that he and Matt were doing all QC for all GH's. To me that sounds like it could be (one of) the bottleneck in production. But I think it's admirable and shows their commitment to getting a quality product out the door. It also sounds like they are being cautious trusting anyone else on the GH team to complete this important step. It's not just a matter of training others on assembly and testing. It takes time and experience. As the days go by, Trevor will be able to evaluate the quality of his team and then (hopefully ? likely?) delegate some of this responsibility to trusted others.

I'm sure nobody wants a defective GH or the GH team flooded with warranty claims.

Yeah sure, the only thing I'd change is the presentation, instead of shipping shipping shipping it coulda been "with some of every part in stock, we are finally ready to complete the design of our assembly and QC processes, here's how it's going...". They set themselves, and us, up for a background theme of "Why are we waiting?", so regardless of how things are actually going (slowly is no surprise) there's an undercurrent of disappointment that their presentation highlights but does not address.

I think that could be a Grasshopper in Obama's pocket (2:21 in the video). Maybe he was a very early backer...? (11:04 for the cannabis question/answer).

You know who would be a good spokesperson for the older GH audience?

"Hey guys, I emailed Trevor and just thought you would want to know his response "I think there is some confusion that your order number is your place in line. This is not the case. I understand you are unsure on the shipping date as we are too. We're just getting started here so it will take us a little bit to figure out how smoothly things move." So there you have it, order number is NOT place in line." -reddit
not that I thought it was the order in line but we did have that theory going for a bit

So if he is responding to other people and saying they shouldn't expect to be in the first batch, then it isn't because their order number is say 12,345, but because he can look up order number 12,345 and tell where in line that person is? But order number 12,346 could actually be ahead of that person?

Now let's all write him so we can find out where in line we are!

I ordered on like the last day of the campaign, so don't have any reason to hope I'm in the first batch anyway. So the info about order numbers doesn't really change anything for me....

As a DB Developer, trust me it sounds ideal, but most likely isn't the case.

When you have two different databases (the original: Indiegogo campaign data), and you build a new store platform (on god knows what management system). You need to import the data.

All the backer order information had to be entered into a new master grasshopper database. This import process (AKA Extract, transform, load - ETL), can reshuffle the data on that first bulk entry (maybe it sorted by last name instead of order number, maybe timestamp created, who knows). They could have already been taking late preorders on their store before they imported the bulk list of IGG backers into the new system. So it's really hard to tell based on order numbers alone.

TL/DR: The important thing to know is that they will be shipping in the order they came according to the IGG backer history, not the order number on their new website.

I like that Trevor emails everyone back but if he isn't being flooded with emails all the time they'll have more time to build the darn things and get them out. At least I would hope so.
I think everyone will miss this love/hate relationship of a thread when it finally does come out, even though no one thinks that now.

Well if you feel lonely when its all over feel free to head over to the Evoke thread. It could turn out very similar to what we have seen here.

@Ratchett and @vapebuddy13 and @Krazzykid - Official update released today regarding our previous discussion. Seems my feelings were not misplaced after all.

Batteries and Chargers

We’d also like to announce that, for our Indiegogo supporters, we are going to include a battery and charger with every Evoke unit. We understand that our Indiegogo supporters feel that Evoke should work out of box, and we want to fulfill that expectation.

Each Indiegogo supporter will receive:
  • 1 Evoke Unit
  • 1 Induction Coil (e-Liquid, Dry Herb or Concentrate)
  • 1 Battery and Charger
  • 3 Capsule Systems (3 glass vials + 3 susceptors)

I would like to draw this discussion away from speculation about order numbers and potential shipping dates, instead to talk about the actual vaporizer for a minute.

In particular, its potential to use concentrates in stock configuration, with the standard mouthpiece that will ship with it.

As many of us are aware, there has been some contempation regarding an oils front end, however at this time, the notion of yet another stage developmental, manufacturing, and shipping processes, albeit only for one part, will probably drag on long after initial shipment is completed. (despite the fact that the oils MP has been known about ever since the IG campaign)

With this in mind, let us open the discussion to practical ways to use oils/concentrates/wax etc. in the GrassHopper in its current configuration.

There is a specially designed piece by Storz & Bickel to allow their herbal vapes, namely the Crafty/Mightly/Plenty (maybe even volcano?), to vaporize non solid materials.

These are called the Liquid Pads - basically a mesh, acting as a wick/substrate to accomodate the full-melt quality of nonherbal compounds.

Does anyone wth a GrassHopper, I'm looking at you @BuzzDanklin, and anyone else to be so lucky as having the good fortune of beta testing, have experience using concentrates with this most coveted pen?

How have you gone about doing so? Merely using cotton as the substrate or going as far as devising your own solutions to solve this challenge?

Now for the most poignant question, will the S&B liqui-pads work directly with the grasshoppers heating chamber, and is it possible to modify them so that they do fit?

These are all things I'm sure we would all like the answers to, and hope that Buzz, and other initial GHV owners see this post and reply to these queries.

EDIT: Here are the Pads in question -

Highly recommend convection use of concentrates to be used with readyxwick rather than the standard pads we are used to. I personally find the meshes to leak oil over time, the readyxwick is very good for wicking it and cleaning it.

Here is an example with my UD.

I am sure both the liquid pads or readyxwick will work just fine in the GH.

I personally wouldn't be thrilled about the possibility of having metal bits or ceramic bits in my air path(from cutting either of them down to size).

I would personally just go with rayon(pure cellulose) or cotton.

I am not saying any option is wrong, just my feelings on the matter.
I do have experience with using all the products I just mentioned by the way, just not in the GH.

I also use cotton but its temperature limited. Its the same airpath as all ecigs and RDAs so I'm not too sure of the concerns but it definitely had me skeptical initially too.

If materials like cotton could withstand concentrate temps then I would keep using them.

I agree, this does seem like a new and creative alternative to the meshes, which have their own set of issues, like you said, and am now curious about potential applications.

Do you think that with the GHV, or even the Crafty/Mighty, one could apply concentrate to this wick to replace the pads altogether?

Conversely, do you think that this wick could be used in something like the Solo for wicking Ejuice? (I am well aware that getting an ecig is a much better solution to this dilemma, but would just like to know the potential of this material)

Lastly, is there anything in particular one should know before using this wick? Any off-gassing or health concerns one ought to be aware of?

Thanks
