Here is what I don't understand: everyone seems to start their Herbie WAYYYYYYYYYY high on the temp scale. If THCA becomes THC at around 315F or so, how come damn near no one here comes even close to that?

I know generally speaking higher temps = thicker clouds, but does that mean if you aren't basically blasting at the mid 400s that you're only going to see fumes?

I use 390 for the anxiolytic effects when I get home from work. There's not enough sedative compounds at that point to make me sleepy but enough to balance out the THC. This lets me be active and stress free around the house for almost 3 hours with one bag.

Once I've had supper I'll vape at 430 to relax this lets me fall asleep easily and further lowers my anxiety.

I've also found that my oil pad doesn't work on low temps (350-395) as well as at 430 and above. So that's another reason for using high temps.

As for clouds of vapour, you get more vapour at higher temps since you're boiling a wider range of compounds at a greater rate than lower temperatures.

I use my Herbie at 300-350 during the day. Keeps me energized and avoids 'couch lock'. I think it just depends on the individual.

congrats @blazedd -- Can you tell us what you know about the 'all sales final' bit?
I was just saying the Herbie doesn't offer refunds at all.

If I'm going to drop 800 permanently, no chance of return, I'd really need to try it out first. Made the mistake of not testing out the Volcano first and was pretty disappointed with it. But with the EVO and E-nano, they don't really push the bank that much even if they didn't offer refunds, but still - they both do. I know it doesn't mean much to most, but to me - it tells me they are really confident in their product.

I didn't realize any vape company offers a retrun policy----send back if you don't like it.
To me, I would not expect that from any vape company or vape accessory company .
They guarantee the product (warranty) but not that you can return if you don't like it.

I would not hold that against Herbie as I would never expect it.

For people asking about dabs I had really good luck with loading hemp fiber (cotton should work too) into the bowl and literally pouring a glob of oil on top trying to spread it evenly around. I used herbie fan assist to warm up the container the oil was in to make it more viscous and easier to pour.

I must have gotten over 20 hits from that. I'm guessing it was around 0.3g to 0.5g of oil. Nothing leaked through either. I did have a good layer of hemp fiber in there.

First 3 hits were a bit wispy but even at only 400f I got some good clouds. Once it started to get wispy again I flipped over the filter in the bowl and cranked it to 445 for some intense clouds.

I've been using bags through my bubbler lately as a way of measuring my intake. I've been over doing it lately and need to cut back. I had just been using the bubbler till I felt medicated enough but realized that by the time I peaked I was too high.

So far one bag is enough to do me and two is enough for my lungs to handle at 430f

Nice, but why don't you use the Herbalizer pads? They work great IMO

I tried but got nothing but wispy vapor. Once I perfect my pouring technique I will give it a try again. I am trying an experiment now that will take a few days... stay tuned :)

Yeah, with the pads I get wispy vapor as well, but after two or three light hits to get it primed, I've found it produces fairly thick vapor on 445F.

I'll stay tuned for your experimental vaporization trials. I'm always up for new techniques!

if you want to get the best vapor with concentrate and the oem pad, you need to run thru a couple of fan cycles to get the unit at its highest temp. And using the bag helps because you can keep the fan running longer thru a load then you can when using the whip.

One way to verify this is try using the whip w/out fan or during first fan cycle, pulling hard. You'll notice the flame icons coming on. Then try the same after like 2 cycles. No matter how hard I pull, I can;t get the flame icons to come on. And tests I ran using a temp pen confirm the temp of the unit gets hotter with each fan cycle, reaching its highest after ~ 3 cycles, at least for my unit.

Usually 445°F packed up loosely to the flare with a medium fine grind. I use a shot glass and scissors as a grinder. Wait about 5 seconds to preheat with fan assist on before inhaling.

Can milk the FC UFO around 3 times.

I actually tested this last night. What I tested was the same strain ground with a bolt type grinder vs MFLB grinder which is a very fine grind. Not even close the fine grind gave big white walls and clouds and gave a bigger punch to the face many are looking for. Interestingly both grinds provided the same amount of hits. Also for big clouds remember sticks first law of herbie is clean fresh screens and engineers recommendation of preheating your bowl. For me both are essential for the best possible experience.

You are getting just as medicated with smaller clouds because the Herbalizer is such a good convection vape without too much conduction. I have found though that if I load up a fluffy bowl of herb and then gently press down to compact it some that I get thicker clouds with the herbalizer than if it is loose. Everyone here seems to be doing better with looser loads except me. I use a SCS grinder and have for over a year and my bud is around the 62% humidity with Boveda packs. I find that very loosely filling the bowl all the way up and then gently compacting it down to half a bowl gives me the strongest hits at any temperature. Also, I find that the third hit is always the best as far as potency.

The thing I have yet to master is oil in the Herbalizer. I don't find the stainless steel pads to work all that great. So far the best approach was to stuff a bowl full of hemp fiber, run the fan assist to warm up my oil container so it is easier to pour, and then literally pour the oil over the hemp fiber on top. I did that and me and my friend together got 3 long intense sessions vaping that off. Nothing leaked through but after about the 10th time at 445 hitting the hemp fiber/oil it started to taste burned. I don't know if something is burning off the hemp fiber or once you have nearly exhausted your oil it is the impurities left behind getting vaped off. I need to run a clean hemp fiber through about ten 445 fan assist cycles to see if it burns or alters the taste at all. I had a pretty good amount of oil in that filter.

John Lewus I have used shatter very successfully with the mesh pads in the Herbie. I typically heat up the pad so the shatter melts a little in place. I can get at least 3 bags or 10 hits from one small piece of shatter on 445. I recently tried some shatter on some medium grind ABV thinking I would get more hits but it was actually much less so I am back to mesh pads. I also tried some sticky concentrate which looked like some homemade stuff and even on the mesh pad on 445 it yielded much less vapor so it appears that its also dependent on material as well. By the way the shatter I had was a professionally processed if that matters.

I was not preheating but that should only matter for the first couple hits. By my fourth hit I had thicker clouds with oil but not quite what I get with flower. Getting the technique down for this is a bit tricky. I'm going to try the pad again but preheat and pour my oil on.

Preheating the bowl is important for the concentrate pads and only takes about 20 seconds of fan time. I usually run the chamber till I see the first wisps of vapour coming out then I load in the pad and oil.

How do you see wisps of Vapor before you load anything?

EXPERIMENT 1 (Hemp fiber filter with oil)

OK I said I would be back with the results of my experiment and I have pics too. I am looking for the best way to vape off oil that is not too messy and can make good clouds. I am not sure this is the best way yet but here it is. My oil was made with 190 proof alcohol and is not BHO based. It smells like grapes and is wonderful.

I put a good wad of degummed hemp fiber in my bowl. I then cranked up my herbie to 400 and used the fan assist to warm up the plastic container my oil was in to make it easier to pour. I poured out exactly 0.21 grams of oil onto my hemp fiber and tried to spread it around evenly by tilting the bowl. I left it on top and did not cover it. I made it through multiple sessions with this setup.

Round 1 (Herbie set to 400)
I already did a half packed flower bowl so I was feeling pretty good. My first hit was very wispy. The second hit was medium and the final hit was a nice strong one that tasted freaking amazing. It was grape like.

Round 2 (Herbie set to 400)
My first 2 hits were wispy and not producing anything. I looked at my bowl and the oil turned into a dark sludge that was really stuck in the fiber. I flipped over the hemp fiber to face downwards and got 4 medium hits off of it and felt good.

Round 3 (Herbie set to 445)
This time I was tired of playing around. My first hit was medium and then 8 massive hits after that. I was nearly obliterated so I decided to blow up a balloon  . That balloon was still very thick with vapor and I could not finish it. By this point the taste turned to crap. I plan to run a hemp fiber through 20 cycles of air at the highest temp to see if it is causing some reaction. It could just be the leftover impurities in the oil vaping off. It is hard to say.

Round 4 (Herbie set to 445)
I got some decent clouds out of this but they were not really making me feel much. I think by the time I had blown the balloon I had most of the good stuff already vaped off.

Thoughts
1. I think I vaped off anything worth vaping before blowing the balloon. The taste got bad.
2. I think this same crud gets left over on the stainless steel pads but hemp fibers are easy to toss
3. I probably should have put a thin layer of hemp fiber on top and sandwiched it in a little. It would have kept some of the oil from sticking to the top screen. It was not that bad but after that session I took off my screen. The bottom screen even after flipping the fiber after 4 sessions still stayed very clean. Nothing dripped through.
4. I wonder what is vaping off when I get near the end. It was not as pleasant and did not seem to medicate me at all.

Total amount of oil vaped off 0.21g which matches what I started with.

Here is a pic of the crud after I blew the balloon. I think all the actives had been vaped off at this point. This is what is left over even on my stainless steel but is buried more inside.

Afaik, that extra stuff at 445 is oil residue from plant waxes, which a lot of concentrates can have. If it's been de-waxed then I believe there's less residue. Same thing happens on my ceramic nail and when I use wax pen with dome (makes cleaning out the wax pen a problem too with the residue affecting flavor).

John have you tried your oil on a mesh pad instead of the hemp fiber? I wonder since you had so much leftover burnt oil if the mesh pad would burn more off i.e. give you more vapor production. Based on your results of quite a few wispy hits and medium hits it seems like this may not be the preferred method. Also the amount you are using is WAY more than I need to use to get similar results. I use the same amount as if you were going to do a dab and get at least 2 dense bags and many times more. I would always go with the highest temp setting since it would seem that would yield the most potent vapor. Wonder what would happen if you hit your used hemp fiber with some everclear and once dried vape it again. Maybe there is some goodness still buried in there. Thanks for sharing your results!

After using a bag for a week and a bit, it is sticky and becoming an issue for me when filling. I'm not sure how much brother got his to last so long without sticking.

I did use the mesh filter. I feel like I get about the same amount of hits either way. With a vaporizer it is just harder to get dab hits started but once you have the bowl heat soaked and fibers heated up then I get the big hits. I've never personally dabbed and am new to oil. I just want to make it work in my vaporizer.

I also got the burnt taste after awhile even on the mesh pad. I don't think it is quite as bad. The nice thing about the hemp fibers is that I leave very little mess inside the bowl. There is usually a little sticky left over but those vape off the next session. When I use the stainless mesh pad I always feel like there is residue left over in the pad making me want to clean it.

I can't decide which method I like better at this point. Neither work as good as flowers work and oil is just messy to deal with.

Do you use oil or bud mainly?

I think my brother only used bud with his bag and that could be the reason it lasted so long.

I'll have to get a fresh bag out when I pick up an other half ounce.

The herbalizer is the best vape on the market hands down. I would like too see a portable vape by Herbalizer with a really fast heat up time. 7-10 seconds like the desktop version. Im purty sure the crafty has the quickest heat up time for a portable vape which takes about one minute. I hope too see a portable herbie in the future. Does anyone know if they are making one? I've heard rumors they are.
