Magical Butter

Final question for you MB owners:
Do you find the end-product to be more potent with the MB than when making butter via traditional methods?
^
If you do, do you decarb your herb before throwing it into the MB?
No. The machine does not do anything magic..... it just makes it 'easier.' @Vitolo has posted that he has better success with the crock pot method. And, if memory serves me, he never decarbs first.

The majority of the MB users in the Facebook group recommend you decarb first. They have found that the machine does not do an adequate job unless you run several cycles. The majority still vote for an oven decarb first. If you look back in this thread, I posted a chart with the different THC strengths that were found after decarbing at different temps and times.

Sorry, I worded that incorrectly. What I meant to say is if you notice any difference in potency with the MB when compared to traditional methods. Would you say it's as efficient as traditional methods, in terms of potency (not convenience).

I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing the MB, but before I do I need to research the crock pot method a bit more to see which would be best for me. If the crock pot method seems to tedious, I guess I'll be buying the MB :p

Can't seem to find the chart your referring to but I did find this a few pages back

Edit: did some research and it seems all crock pot methods require 6-24hrs+ of cooking/stirring. The MB definitely seems to have every traditional method beat on convenience. Just placed my order :p

Is it possible to make a product that would work through one of the e-cig pens?

Oil?? glycerin based??

Cool...Thanks!! Interesting!!!

So this can be done in the MB2? Seems like it would make a huge amount. I'd rather make smaller amount with more material...of course looking to be on the stronger side. Would a mota pot work for smaller amounts. Anyone done this successfully yet? If so please share.

The mota is a joke, look up stove top espresso pot or something... That's all it is, but it's junk for our purpose. Get the mb machine and use the link for $25 off I posted if you don't have one... You'll be glad you did

Should I make a batch of oil/cannacaps with mid-grade flower or high-grade?

$280 OZ for mids and $320 for high-grade, thoughts? Is the extra $40 worth it?

You need more than one ounce of product in the MB maker. It makes it expensive for the folks that don't have their our own gardens.

I was able to get a bargain on 1 ounce and mine was too weak. I felt like I waisted the money. I'm thankful I didn't pay $250-300. You will need to run it for more than a couple hours too. I plan on doing another run when I can get leaves and trim - like 3 - 4 ounces. I would use coconut oil not butter.

I will also try a large quantity of ABV too on a separate batch.

All I can afford ATM is an Oz. I'm scared of putting a whole Oz of flower into it as I'm scared it'll end up being too potent for cannacaps, seeing as I haven't ingested THC in 3 months and I'm guessing my tolerance is really low. I also haven't had much experience with edibles in the past.

I was thinking of doing a 1/2 Oz separately in 2 batches to make sure it isn't too potent but I guess I'll have to throw in a whole Oz at once.

Do you think the extra $40 is worth it for better quality?

If I were you I would go for the cheap stuff. Edibles can be quite strong since the first pass liver effect converts delta-9-thc into 11-hydroxy-thc a much more psychoactive substance. Also, the extraction is likely to be very complete, just decarb your medicine first. Another reason to do this is in case something goes wrong you are out less $$$.

I always like to be stronger than weaker..... if you get lucky and it's too strong you dilute it and have double or triple the yield....:science:

Since you don't have experience with edibles go really slow. After 4 hours take more if you don't feel anything. Sometimes they can be slow acting. Once you ingest too much it's too late. Do this on a day that you don't have to go anywhere or do anything important. You don't want to have any responsibilities like taking care of children.

Do I throw my cannaoil (coconut oil) in the freezer or fridge? Will either negatively affect potency? I'll probably have to store it for 3-4 months, so I guess the freezer?

The freezer will actually have a beneficial effect by cracking the cannabinoids and making them more soluble or emulsified. Bad Kitty Smiles does this with her recipes all the time.

I decarb in the unit. Here's my process:
  • herb and coconut oil into MB2e
  • 1 hour at 220 degrees (decarb)
  • add lecithin
  • 2 hours at 160 degrees (extraction/infusion)
  • DONE!
Damn, too bad i didn't see this earlier. I did 230 1hr decarb, 1hr 160 in MB, I used 1 oz buds, 2 cups of coconut oil (the minimum line) and it really isnt potent. I took 6 00 capsules and got to a 3/10 on highness, barely felt anything.

Can I unfreeze it then put it back in the MB for another hour? Do you guys think that will increase potency. I might have to add 1/4 cup of oil to reach the minimum line. I threw out allthe bud that was left in the MB after. Will throwing the oil back in the MB without any bud even do anything?

Don't bother...... what you could do is save it and when you get ready to make another batch....that is now your base to work off of

ouch, not exactly what I wanted to hear :( Looks like I spent $300 just to fail :( I was planning on doing 2 hours in the MB @ 160F but read the booklet which said 1 hr @ 160 for oil.

So cooking it again for an extra hour, just the oil alone (without adding any bud), won't increase potency?

If not, would buying an 1/8 and throwing it in the with already cooked cannaoil for 2 hours do much? Can't really spend another $300 again :(

I'm really kicking myself right now >.<

It sucks...no doubt!!!! I'm finding it take quite a bit of product to make it "properly" at least double your recipe ratio.

Throw it back in..... wont hurt.....but it probably wont do anything but heat it up

I don't think it was how long that caused the potency.....but the amount of ingredients.

I still think..... hold on to it and go for it again when you have more product.

You spent $300 to get a great base...not to fail

If anyone reading this has had success/experience in increasing potency by throwing your batch back in, please let me know :D

Great points! Now to figure out whether I should hold onto it before I can buy more product or to heat it up and hope it increases potency. :uhoh:

Just took 12 capsules, let's see how this goes.
