On the topic of Vapman vs Lotus

I have both, and they each have their place. Lotus I only use with water as I only have the WPA, nothing like vaping a whole bowl with a massive rip.

Vapman is more portable for me and I like the aesthetics more. Smooth vapor too for its short draw.

I couldn't hit my vapman well through water, but I was still learning the thing. I'm out of town, likely will try it when I'm back.

Taste between them IMO is somewhat negligible. Convection always tastes better than conduction IMO, but they both taste fine.

I always have to stir and get hotspots with my Lotus, Vapman seems a much more even vape.

Could someone point me to a link that discussed the pros and cons of the basic vs classic/mica. Not sure which to get.

I'm not sure where in the thread that discussion is. It has been discussed at least a few times. The official statement from vapman is that mica vs basic does not affect the performance. The difference is aesthetic, the mica protects the bottom getting charred. Also the classic/mica has been sanded and treated with linseed oil, while the basic is neither - however you can get a basic that has been sanded and treated with linseed oil as well as evenly charred and tattooed from infinityvm.com (they are pretty cool) - kind of a happy medium between the two choices.

If you get the the basic one it will charr a bit around the hole at the bottom underneath the heating pan (also referred to as the crucible or bowl) where you aim the torch. Excuse my french, but I think it kind of ends up looking like a dirty asshole. lol. It is the most affordable vm though. I've seen a few pictures where some of the wood around the hole burns up and chips off. However, It will reach a point where it stops charring/smoking and will stay that way - there is a fireproofing effect that occurs - that is sort of a natural damage control. Another good thing about the basic is that the entire vaporizer can be fully cleaned by dipping it in acetone. The classic (mica) can't be fully dipped in acetone because it will damage the mica. It's not a huge deal however because the stem can be dipped and cleaned and that is the main part that gets dirty.

I have the classic mica version. The one thing I don't like too much is that the mica does flake off a bit - but mostly if you touch it. It's not really a big health concern, but I imagine at some point I might breath in a tiny little mica dust/flake. There are articles that state that it is bad for your lungs but only if it is a large amount - basically it's a health concern for people working in industrial environments where mica dust is all around. Not because it's toxic, but because it literally covers up their lungs and obstructs breathing. It is aesthetically pleasing however, it looks metalic and fully protects the bottom from charring.

That's my take on it.

My wonderful Lotus experience does include needing to keep the torch burning longer and this gets a bit tiring after a while, and the exposed hot surfaces are sometimes hazardous during handling (the torch gets hot and the heated plate on top). Using the water device and setting it on top of a stationary bubbler helps, though it's still necessary to keep that torch burning and burning whereas the vapman operates with a series of 3-4 second torch shots to be effective. I use a smaller (< 1") torch flame with the stock lighters.

On the topic of vapman + vs1: packing the crucible full (fine grind only) results in visibly lofty output and complete extractions. The crucible is consistently and completely (over the whole outer surface) and evenly heated by vs1, and certainly more so than in comparison to heat via torch. And this even heating is delivering great results with full crucibles. Haven't been able to combust using vs1 and get outputs of evenly dark chocolate grounds if desired. When extra heat is desired I do a double-heating cycle and may let it set a few seconds more after that. The vs1 pairs better with basic rather than classic models, and if a basic vapman is only used with the vs1 then there will be no charring. Though charring adds character to this artisanal device called vapman.

The vapman + vs1 (vaps1 = vapman+vapman station1) compare nicely to the e-nano. The base stations are similar in many ways including being mostly convective and partially conductive with e-nano being smaller. e-nano in use requires constant attachment to the base station but vaps1 allows you to walk off with the vapman in hand at the peak of readiness. e-nano has always been a favorite but vaps1 is currently interfering in that affair and perhaps moving e-nano aside.

Ok, speaking of Mica vs Basic...

I got a request to make a Dark Chocolate Mica vapman. I don't know why, but this idea hadn't even crossed my mind, so I'm real grateful for the inspiration!

I did it, and this new vapman version is going to ship soon to a good guy who had a great new idea. :D

I find the taste excellent on the vapman at low temps .. some of the first quick fire low heat hits with the short vapour path (no water ever) taste incredible .. equal to any convection vape ( btw i think the convection conduction debate is a load of bollocks .. every vape is unique). After the tasties are done i just ramp up the heat and normally finish the load on hit 3 or 4.

@M0J0 they look great.. the mica really sets of the charring for me. A little taste of what the ebony will look like :)

While we are on yhe topic of lighters, does anyone know where one can purchase an original Vapman jet lighter here in Canada? I have found a few sources in the USA and Europe however shipping is upwards of $20 to $30 extra. TorontoVaporizer used to have it on their site but have taken it down in favour of the more expensive house brand "zeus". They give the zeus away for free (for a reason) with orders, however it is inadequate for my needs.

www.torontovaporizer.ca Should be carrying it again soon hopefully. They have a live chat that pops up when your browsing the page, ask if they are going to restock the item ?

I have always had a good time with there customer support.

Hmm, sorry found this after the six minute edit. Kinda pricey though.

Modnote: posts merged. The edit window is actually six hours, not minutes. ;)

Anybody have problems with wiping after a concentrate hit where fibers and pieces of paper towel stick to the filter ?
A ways back on this thread somebody suggested sandwiching the concentrate between two screens. Sounds like a good idea.

Not me. What's this paper towel thing, aren't you supposed to use your pant's leg? No loose fibers there..... Being hot makes it easy to wipe clean, cold it can be sticky for sure.

My only problems with concentrates are gluing filter to the pan and switching back to herb called for concentrate above the filter draining down into the load.....which isn't really all that big a problem....in fact....

I did have such problems myself as well while I was using a super sticky oil my bro had made... Even after a second of that last hit, when the SS filter was scorching hot, tissue would stick there!
So just do what the manufacturer recommends and OF said... Use a fabric surface... Cotton or hemp or even semi synthetic. Just don't burn your nylon fabrics with it... :p

Shipping from Switzerland to Canada is terrible also :p, But Toronto is in Canada :).
I know that Toronto is in Canada, but I know that René ships to Canada a lot so I thought he got a better shipping price. He ships free on orders over $75 (if I remember right) to Canada as well.

It costs me $25 to ship Priority Mail to Canada...

@stroonz, you can also torch the stainless steel screen. It will turn rainbow colors but it will be completely clean.

Or use 800 or 1000 grit sand paper with a bit of natural oil then clean it with ISO or acetone.

You can also torch the screens.

For the record, I saw Toronto Vapes mentioned and that's where I got my Vapman.

Took exactly a week to ship. Said it was in the INTL shipping place in IL for like 5 days though on my tracking. Regardless, took a week from ordering to my doorstep.

They offer a free gift. Zeus Lighter or Zeus Grinder. Saw in the earlier pages the lighter is a piece of shit.

Can confirm. Stopped working after 10-15 lights of my vapman. Literally was junk within an hour or two.

No butane is getting to the spark. Idk why. Thank god for my Lotus lighter.

I emailed TV about it as I was a little miffed that this lighter was such junk. They retail for like 50 on the website, so the fact its such trash kind of irritated me. Would avoid the Zeus and just try to get a different jet lighter

So they sell the lighter on the website for $50, but give it away with any purchase? Weird...

While I've never seen the POS in question, I'll venture an educated guess: It got overheated.

Vapman is serious duty in terms of how long it's run and also the fact it's close to the surface it's heating (catches a lot of IR 'backsplash' because the temperatures are so high 'out there'). If you look down the snout of the 'factory' (or other appropriate) lighter, first thing you see is ceramic and metal mounted in a shell designed to 'soak up' (and conduct away) heat and isolation back to the valve proper (typically high temperature tube) so the entire tip can get hot without compromising the lighter. If you're 'on the cheap' this can be omitted or worse still simulated.

IMO stick with 'known good' lighters and you'll be fine. Pick one up at the gas station and you could be in the market for a replacement real quick.
