Discontinued Haze Dual V3

Hello fellow Hazers!! I can now say that cuz I just got my Haze a few days ago. Was a lurker while I did my research on the Haze, now I am official. :D

Was using a lot of the portable pen vapes with oil/wax and finally decided to spend the $$'s for one that does both herb and oils. And thanks to this forum and thread, I pulled the trigger.

Gotta some questions for you guys n gals:
- how would one know if the Haze they have is v 2.5? I mean just by eyeballing it? I've read through 17 pages out of 89 and did not find anything...yet. Also did a search on the thread came up with nothing.
- also tried the can method with herbs, setting at 4...did not notice much vapor. Then again coming from the pen vapes, I think I should not expect the clouds to be the same. Will try screens tonight but am going to hate cleaning them.

You guys ROCK!!! Ok, time to continue on reading through the rest of the thread...71 more pages to go...ha ha ha

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Welcome to FC and your new Haze.

The users guide that came with your Haze should a v# on the front. Mine says v2.5.

I don't get much visible vapor from my dried herb but I like setting 2 for the coolness with convection screens. I know the vapor is there, just not visible. I think that is better for you but that's just my belief. I may not be able to see the vapor but I can feel the effects and taste the herb. That's good enough for me.

I have only used mine a handful of times so I haven't had to clean a screen yet. I imagine it's as easy as soaking it in iso and maybe a quick pass with a toothbrush?

And, a small female plug added to the Haze unit to allow charging directly, without constantly opening and closing the battery door, and taking out, and re-inserting the battery. This repeated action will eventually cause wear on the hinges, and latch; handling the battery may result in drops, and damage.

That could be a nice feature for those not wanting to mess with battery changes all the time. I know I'm clumsy and could drop a battery but I always try to be mindful when handling them. I know 18650 batteries don't like being dropped. That's one battery I don't want to piss off. It could be a mini usb port like companies have done with their led flashlights. Would work with any mini usb charging cord.

I feel like adding a charge port might add a lil too much space to it, with the port and connections to transfer the power to the battery.

I bet there is enough free space inside the Haze to fit the required circuit board, wiring and port. I have seen companies doing this with their led flashlights. The increased length varies between zero to no more than half of an inch.

Here's the case, pretty good fit. I also have put a classic Jyarz container where the 2 batteries are as well. I can fit the Jyarz and one battery but it gets tight

Wow, nice fit! Looks like it was made for it.

Retired long ago but I travel a lot still so I wish I could go that compact.

Due to lung problems, even with vaping I'll need to take along my hydrotube wherever I go.

RYOT had (has?) a 25% off sale on their large PackRatz bag so I've ordered that based on dimensions hoping I can get the Haze and the tube in there safely. The plan is to separate the 2 with a short partial slice of plumbing/pipe/AC insulation foam to prevent breaking the glass I hope.

Will post a pic if it works out at all. Or a pic of the fragmented tube if it doesn't.

If my math is right at all, might be able to fit in 2 of the small threaded storage cans Scott showed us.

If I'm not mistaken, the PackRatz may be a soft case without the protective shell so it may not be enough protection for the glass. Time will tell.

Damn, but I've shelled out a lot of shekels for accessories; the race is on to see what gets here first - Haze? Accessories or the fast charger? Feels like stoner Xmas!

m

edit: I went down to the mail shed and the RYOT bag was there already after only 2 days. Wow. The padding is a little thinner than expected - but probably sufficient. And I really don't want it to be bulkier than necessary so this is probably good. More later when I have a Haze to fit into it and take pics... The grey color is fairly dark and will match nicely with my grey Haze or probably with a stealth black one as well.

The PackRatz does turn out to NOT have any hard shell built in. I think this will be fine although it is some level less protection than cases with a hard shell, IMHO.

My purple Haze came last evening from Massdrop. I charged the batteries overnight and am now figuring it out.
I tried dry herb in the can with the lid. There was no vapor, but the taste was there. The ABV was brown. Does anyone have the same experience?
I'm also interested in the upgrade program and pay it forward that I read about in previous posts. Can someone explain it to me? I've been looking for answers on the forum but may have missed that post.
I'm so appreciative of all of you. You are so helpful and informative. Thank you.

Upgrade program consists of you paying 100 dollars, and whenever there is an update for the unit you send your unit to a pay-it-forward program in arizona. as soon as your shipping label is created send it to haze and they ship you out a new, updated model, full kit and all. The vaporizers are given to elderly/terminal patients who can not afford the devices on their own.

i purchased this vape right before the stealth came out. After a small cosmetic defect, I got the stealth black. I have used it for 2 sessions and never again. I do not think I am using it correctly and assume it's user error, especially from all the good reviews here. I have the stealth black. I tried the convection screen and can get wispy hits on temp 4. Whenever using the lids on the can, it tasted like silicone (submerged overnight in coconut milk) I purchased straight from Haze.

The left port on the battery charger doesn't work. So I need to individually charge on the right side. I bought a lot of accessories, extra cans and eds 14mm water attachment. Can someone give me a dummies guide on using the haze? Appreciate it.

My batteries are certainly not working (I did not take off the plastic). I tried charging on right side and battery won't get past the first bar.

I haven't tried using the cans yet. I know setting 4 with conduction screens puts out more visible vapor than convection screens for me. I use a medium grind by my best guess. I'm thinking a finer grind may produce more vapor? More surface area of the herb exposed to the heat.

I imagine you left the batteries in the charger for a long time, made sure they had good contact and weren't in backwards? Do the batteries feel warm when charging? I would contact Haze and have them assess the situation. Most likely will send you a new charger.

CV, it appears I'm not allowed to reply to conversations yet. Might need more posts or time before I can do that? In any case, to answer your question: I went with the Efest Luc v4 fast charger. Found a decent price shipped with the car adapter in fleabay - $29.

That's a good choice from reviews I have read. You will have to let me know how you like it. I ended up choosing the Xtar vp2 for my 18650 led flashlight needs, which is what led me to search for an 18650 compatible vaporizer. Was looking at others too but the Haze was just the best fit. Haze for life.

That's great info. It looks like the vp2 might be a better choice (more compact) for travel. The detailed info you provided on 18650 batteries earlier in the thread was very informative & helpful. I tried to get that nominated for the Haze best of thread but it didn't make it.

I wonder if you would be so kind as to help with some battery charging versus life/performance questions?:

Do you find this type of battery has best life & performance with mostly slow charges and only occasional fast charges? Conversely, are fast charges sometimes beneficial? Or does it not really appear to matter?

Thanks!

edit: BTW, I went ahead and ordered the Haze XL 3400mah batteries.

Regarding Betty White's questions: If she has a volt meter, is there an optimal fully charged battery voltage for 18650's and a discharged battery voltage to compare that would confirm if the batteries are fully charged or not? Just looking for a quick way to see if it is the charger or not in order to get to productive vaping sooner..

I can't vet this as I'm not well read on batteries, but from some quick Googling, it appears a fully charged 18650 battery might be in the range of 4.1 to 4.2 volts and discharged might be somewhere near 3.7 but probably not below 3.6. However, it appears there are some variables depending upon what mah the battery is, the charge rate, the discharge rate and the battery temp. And probably some other variables I'm unaware of.

For the sort of cheap voltmeter we might buy for a few bucks at Harbor Freight, I'm guessing a digital voltmeter would be necessary for this sort of narrow operating range.

Any registered member can start or reply to a Conservation. You should be able to reply to any PM, but you won't be able to start a Conversation with a member who has chosen to disallow that. If this doesn't sort you out, send me a PM with the details and I'll try to figure out what happened.

Is this a one time deal, or do you pay another $100 once you get a new version to re-enroll? Is this transferable?

Thanks for trying.

A 1A charge rate should have little ill effect on an 18650 battery. It may cost you a handful of cycles off of your batteries total life. I don't know if anyone knows the actual results. I use .5A rate if I have time. That should, in theory give you the most cycles from your battery. I wouldn't use a 2A rate unless I really needed a fast charge. This is the common consensus on many 18650 threads.

I don't believe there is any advantage/disadvantage between fast and slow charging besides how many cycles your battery will last and time to fully charge. You trade one for the other.

4.2v is the fully charge capacity of the Haze 18650 batteries. Any decent charger should top them out right about there +/- a small percentage of error. A lot of flashlight people recharge their 18650 batteries when they hit 3.5v but I believe 3.2v is the low charge threshold. I will have to check that next time my Haze dies.

Had a chance to try it last night, i'm using the full stainless steel screens..i believe those are the convection..correct me if i'm wrong..still learning about this vaporizer. After one bowl stopped producing vapor at level 4..i switched over to the 2nd chamber and it was pretty amazing. Being able to have two separate chambers loaded with material is great. I picked up a harddrive case from amazonbasics to protect this unit. This unit is pretty solid, i would like to get ed's water tool adapter. I like the fact more vaporizers are using 18650's as a power source..i use mechanic mods and box mods so i always have charged batteries around/a charger online so it's handy. I think more vaporizers should be powered by removable batteries. How do you guys like the XL batteries vs the stock batteries?

Betty White,

Thanks to our local Haze battery guru Count Vapula, you now have voltages in case you can get your hands on a digital volt meter. My pre-retirement background was mainly in troubleshooting, so I offer the below in case it is of any use to you. Please keep in mind I don't have my Massdrop Haze on hand yet. It arrives late next week. I will track before and after charging voltages in case that is of any use to the thread.

I believe you can get a small but usually sufficient digital volt meter from your local Harbor Freight for less than 5 bucks. This way, you could check the DC voltage of both batteries to see if there is a disparity between the two. If one is at or near 4.2 volts as per Count Vapula, maybe try that one. See if it vapes properly. If the other is very different in voltage after full charge, that battery may be bad. While batteries are not warranteed by Haze, reading the thread, they have been most helpful after new purchases on the rare occasion when a battery was immediately a dud.

If one battery shows full voltage but the other does not, there is a good probability that the one battery is the problem and maybe not the charger.

If both batteries are showing low voltage well below 4.2 after charging, then the charger is the prime suspect.

Next, it has been awhile, but the thread reading indicates that some few Haze's (not a lot, just a few) have had one oven that wouldn't go to full temp. So in case you haven't, maybe try material in the other oven and see if that one produces more what you expected. If one oven vapes really well but the other has little output, you may need to send the unit in.

Finally, with both batteries: While the shrink wrap has to stay ON to contain the small printed circuit board protection at one or both ends, it's not a bad idea to make sure that none of the shrink wrap inadvertently covers the + or minus contacts. That's the center connector or contact of either end of the battery. It is unlikely this is the problem since even a tiny speck of plastic on either end would create an "open" condition. In other words, the tiniest speck of plastic in the way would prevent the Haze from ever turning on. Still, it may be worth mentioning.

It is my hope that the above may help with local troubleshooting so that you can request the right component from the excellent folks at Haze in order to get you Hazing sooner than later.

Did I just co-opt a term "Hazing" for the Haze thread? Unlikely. I'm a newb.

I may report later next week on how "Hazed" I am... just reserving that one for copyright purposes. jk

If I've missed or botched any details for troubleshooting your Haze, I'm confident our Haze brethren will correct me - and my thanks in advance for same.

Best of luck,

Señor Micke

Wow, I didn't realize that vaping could be such a learning experience. Do I need to check the voltage on the batteries? My Haze feels warm after I turn it on. I just don't get vapor. But I get taste and effects. I'll try some of the suggestions from the members who have posted about the cans. Thank you.

Thanks, Betty! You don't have to check the voltage necessarily; that's just an expedient troubleshooting tool.

Without a volt meter, maybe the first things to do would be:

1.) Try the other oven. If it's much better and what you expected, then you've figured out the problem. It would then be the Haze unit itself.

2.) Definitely try both fully charged batteries. If one works great but the other is "meh", it's probably the one battery that is bad.

Now that you mention it, given the 2 steps above, I guess the volt meter would mainly be to see if it is the charger (or remotely possibly BOTH batteries) that is/are bad.

From reading the thread, I don't think troubleshooting is necessary very often. However, I hope the guys and gals in here can help figure out what's up with your Haze.

Are the metal tabs on ur can facing the side with the oven indicators or facing the inside of the haze? Are ur cans in correctly?

NickDlow,

The tabs on the cans: They need to be facing OUT away from the oven cover (door) hinge, right?

Some say to wait 15 to 20 seconds after the lights indicate full temp for concentrates - is that necessary or desirable for herb?

Re can placement: correct

Ime just about every vape will produce a whispy first couple of hits.(especially on lower temps) As the herb warms up n loses its moisture the vapor increases.

Micke

Ok, I think I gotcha'. As is my wont, I over-analyze a lot.

So the first wispy couple of hits just send up the water vapor from the herb. The latent heat of evaporation from that water prevents the THC goodness of the essential oils from vaporizing until the water is gone... and once it is gone:

THEN, the THC goodness of the essential oils starts to vaporize and happiness is known.

So I'm guessing here, but the essential oils might start vaporizing significantly sooner or later depending upon how dry or wet the herb is..?
