HipVap

I believe it's medical grade silicone..not 100% sure.

Here's my review of the HipVap.

Glad i was able to get my hands on one of these..adding it to the current rotation which is mflb..esv..solo..air..indica..not in specific order.I have only used this unit with herbal material..no concentrates yet.

What you get:

1 HipVap
2 Pods
8 Oil Wicks
3 Screens
2 Extra Mouth Pieces
1 Charger
10 Pipe Cleaners[YESSSS..throwing in cleaning accessories is a must]
2 Smell-Proof Bags
1 Instruction Booklet

Design
I received the silver and black unit.
The vaporizer itself weighs 4.8 oz and Size wise it's 3.5” x 2.4" x 1"[The size of this vaporizer is impressive].
The body of the vaporizer is high grade plastic while the vapor path is aluminum, the bottom of the unit flips out and the bowl chamber is exposed. I can fit my whole pinky inside the bowl chamber, so i'm guessing you can fit .5 depending on your grind..similar to the indica i'm finding it's best if you pack your material in.From the bowl chamber it's a straight vapor path to the silicone mouthpiece which splits the vapor. On the front of the vaporizer you will see the LED display and two plus/minus buttons..left one will be for the shut off timer which can go from 1-10 minutes. The right plus/minus will be for the temp which ranges from 100F-430F. On the side of the vaporizer you will see the micro usb port, which is awesome for android phone users! I have been charging this vaporizer on my xbox, right next to my other vaporizers. The mouthpiece does get hot once you go past 390F, that is to be expected..hopefully in the future they will offer a watertool adapter. Overall the flask style is very appealing[comfortable in hand] and makes this portable vaporizer very pocket friendly. Never thought i would be able to fit 3 vaporizers in my pocket..but it's possible.

Ease of Use
This unit is very user friendly, all you need to do is insert your material in the chamber..hold down the power button for 3 seconds and choose your temp..within 60 seconds your ready to vape. There are no complicated rituals or routines that you need to go through before vaping, just load..heat up and hit. Very good for beginners or veteran vaporists.

Portability
This unit is bigger than the mflb and about the size of the indica..just bigger by a hair.
Fits in my pocket with no fuss, and it's easy to hide this in your hand. I will say the LED is very bright, so for you stealth vaporists it might be best to cover the LED with your palm.

Vapor Quality
When i first received my unit, i put it on 430F for 10 minutes. After my burnoff i started using my unit in the 300's into the 400's which provided very large plumes of vapor similar to the Indica/Solo/VB however there was no restriction. I was very surprised at the size of clouds this unit was providing. Taste wise, i can only taste what i'm vaporizing..i'm not picking up anything additional from the unit itself. Recently I've been vaping at the higher 200's and it's been extremely flavorful. Please keep in mind i fill my bowl chamber all the way.

Application
This vaporizer is a fog machine..it evenly cooks full bowls and provides huge flavor.
If you pack this bowl half way or less[thinking about using some stainless steel screens or mesh to use as a spacer] you can do solo sessions..with a full bowl you should be able to vaporizer with 2-3 more people with everyone getting a good share of clouds..starting from 280F-430F.

Customer Service
From my understanding they have a 2 year warranty which is very awesome.I have spoken to customer service once, they have been very polite and extremely responsive. If i send a email i normally get a response same day.

Closing Thoughts.
If you are looking for..
Precise temps[LED readout]
Flavor
Big clouds with no restriction
Small portable for on the go or for at home vaping.

This unit will suit your needs.

*edit 2 year warranty

Nice, seems the mouthpiece might fit in a bubbler all on its own. I'll be trying once I am able of course...

So the bowl door is high grade plastic? So the bottom/top of the bowl is plastic then, not silicone? Its hard like plastic and seems like the rest of the frame I think, dont see how it could be silicone over there?

Customer service seems excellent so far, should have another unit coming to me soon and this one will go back so they can inspect it.

My HipVap review:

Nice packaging but mine comes without cleaning kit (except some pipe cleaners but no brush and no tool) and they provided an usb cable but it was not a mini usb....not a big deal since I own severals usb cable and brushes.

Very small device, fit really well in hand, although not really stealth with the leds (the Alfa wins here!).

Mouth piece is nice, I connect it to my Orbiter using a male 14mm joint with a short piece(2cm) of large silicon tubing and I just press the mp against this silicon tubing

The bowl is very big for me but it works well with smaller loads.

Airflow is not completly open but there is not too much restriction.

It definitly needs several burn offs if you get a sensitive taste but after that it produces a nice taste and it doesn't degrade too fast (using 410 max).

Clouds are here without any doubt but nothing crazy for me.

Vapor is smooth and not too hot, it doesn't make me cough.

Effect are here but it's more a sipper than a cloud maker (perfect on the go), and abv comes out surprisingly clear using 410 max.

The adjustable autoshut off is a nice feature (I setted mine to 7mn)!

Building quality seems good BUT the plastic bottom bore me, it seems similar to the Alfa plastic but there is some discolourations (not the same deep dark the alfa get), i would like HipVap communicates here about this topic....

The Pods, I have high expectations with them, I tried first to use them loaded with flowers (àla Haze), it took a long time to produces whispy clouds (even at high t°) so I didn't put any concentrates in ( I plan to test a full pod of kief!) cause I don't expect nice results...

Battery life seems very good, I'm still using it on the first charge (3x6mn burn offs+5x7mn vaping)

All in all it's a good unit and it will be a serious contender for a lot of vaporizers, for the moment l think it is very similar to the Alfa, but I prefer the Alfa in term of taste, clouds, efficiency and stealth, but it's very close to the Alfa does!

Nice review PPN!

When you used small load, did you pack it in or go loose? My concern with smaller amounts is it falling to the bottom of the bowl in use, where there is no metal, leading to poor conduction. How did it work?

vs Alfa, you think the full temp control doesn't make up for Alfas high temps? Alfa flavor is still better than HipVap at 374?! Wonder what the metal alloys for their ovens and vapor paths are... But I guess Alfa may have the smaller more efficient oven? Especially with that center pin...

I also planned on trying the cans as herb capsules, again problem is when in use they'd fall to the bottom which would be the silicone lid of the can... Hmmm

@2clicker nonreplacable unfortunately but two 18650s yields pretty long battery life it seems at least.

And the size of the unit is really nice, looks and feels really nice. Fits really well hidden in the hand, like Haze but better (bc smaller and short mouthpiece). Smaller than Ascent as well.

My replacement should be here Wednesday or Thursday, with a shipping label to send back the other one. Hopefully everything is as it should be and I can dive into the HipVap as well...

looks great but non replaceable cells are a deal breaker for me.

honestly i do not see a reason why any portable vape would even be made w/out a swappable battery option anymore.

i would rather have a smaller vape with swappable cells than an internal cell vape with 2 18650s.

all subjective tho.

And agreed. People still all over the Pax and Ascent though, so there is still a market for them. And Indica too I don't think will be user replaceable even on the new one. So far I think the only premium conduction units that have em are Haze/Inhalater/Air, and those are all arguably more like hybrid units

New HipVap is here, charging up.

Not only fast responsive customer service, but free 2day shipping both ways.

Smells all clear now after some burn offs, took 5 or so, but it got there with the door closed. Can finally begin testing!

EDIT:
First bowl success, tried just dumping in 3/4 full fine grind mix completely loose. Started at 328, nice taste going through 362 with no clouds stopping every 12ish, but nice heady effects and flavors. At 374 there were some light clouds, and I a hit a nice long stride at 380 with many cloudy hits coming and coming as taste faded.

Autoshutoff at 9min so turned it back on, it can get pretty hit with this much back to back use it seems, and rode it a little longer before turning up to 388-394-398 before stopping to check it out. Pretty even seeming browning with a quick stir, then I decided to pack it down with a tamper flat, and to keep it tight I threw in one of the oil cans (without black lid, screen side pressing herb) and it just barely fit closed (had to make sure it was packed in as I swung the door closed). Put it to 380 and got several more clouds (quite poor taste of course now though) before stepping to 392 and 402 with good results. Very even chocolate brown avb, obviously it could have gone darker at higher levels with a 430 max, but I don't like to go that high especially in a conduction vape typically.

So the oil cans can be used as spacers! I plan to try using very small amounts as well with these and see how efficient the HipVap can be. I also want to try herb packed in the cans as capsules, but they fit a tad loose in the oven so I dono how well the walls will conduct compared to being directly in the oven itself... Either way they are a nice little accessory that you get two of in the package (along with several wicks and pipe cleaners, and two mouthpieces. No tools).

Couple downsides, aside from the lower body getting warm since it is so small and sleek, the mouthpiece can get hot bc of the metal nub it attaches to. It is very small so your mouth is close to that hot metal. Not terrible but a longer mouthpiece night be nice. One thing that is nice about the mouthpiece is how it diffuses the vapor a bit with a flat surface that the vapor hits before splitting into two opposite slots, its just with such a short vapor path in such a small portable, vapor is bound to be harsh above 370 especially hitting back to back, but smokers likely won't mind. I also intend to try plugging the mouthpiece into a bubbler as well...

Draw restriction seems well balanced, shouldn't need crazy cleaning nor too often either. Setting any temp is nice, as is timer but should go higher than 10 probably... Buttons are nice and simple, maybe a pouch or sleeve would be nice actually to protect.

More to come...

Habitually I use a provided screen to keep the load in place when I use small loads but I noticed the load stay in place even without screen if you pack it tight.

I don't get anymore issue to get a dark brown abv, it extract all the goodies!

Battery life is nice but not impressive, i'm not sure but I think I made: 3x6mn burnoffs+8x7mn vaping sessions using 380°F and more so you can expect in average 1 hours and 15mn of vaping.

I would prefer it to the Alfa (cause completly adjustable t°) if it would taste better, it doesn't taste bad at all but when you go higher than 410 there is a slighty plastic taste (similar to the Herbstick Deluxe produces at high t°, but less)....maybe it would disappear in the future (I noticed that with my Storm and it disappeared)...

Leds could be an issue in the night but it's absolutly stealth in the lightday (and sometime I have problem to see the t°/color).

Sure, it's not the better vape in the world but my friends it works....and very well!

actually the first thing I've realized is that the lower part stays quite cool even after some burnoffs on the hottest setting?! i though it would get much warmer, at least.

edit: even the metal nub of mine stays cool!

first impressions are good so far. there is a slight metallic smell coming from the oven right now, but I'm not through with burnoffs yet. It definitely looks and feels fine. size is great, the smallest vaporizer with exact temperature control so far!

btw. does anybody know why there are these two small empty bags (silver) inside the box?! i wonder if something is missing, or if these are supposed to be empty for real

@mrweed Those silver bags are their "smell proof" bags. They are a joke. They are the same bags PAX accessories come in.

I have been using my HipVap for over two weeks and IMO the digital temperature display is not quite accurate, I feel the temps are lower than displayed.

I start out at 350F and get a little taste but no vapor, I find the HipVap works best at 380F or above. I do not usually go above 400F but can go to 420F with it and not get a harsh feeling in my throat.

This is probably why the oil pods do not work well at all, the temperature is too low.
Also, having a starting point of 150F seems ridiculous to me.

I really like the size and design and digital display, but why no battery life indicator or celsius display?

My biggest complaint with the HipVap is how long it takes to charge. I used it for 7 minutes from a fresh charge, starting at 380F to 420F. It took 1:15 to charge back to green using the factory charger which is rated pretty high at 1700mAh. IMO that is unacceptable.

Personally I don't feel it is any better than the transporter or V7 other than it's a bit smaller.

Just my:2c:

How are you packing Doc?

I can get clouds at 340 with the oil cans upside down as a spacer to keep it packed up and tight. With a loose pack, I can't get clouds til 380.

Though I do agree the temp display is not fully accurate, particularly after a draw is taken, just like the Ascent.

@mrweed I noticed the heat more in use with herbs, please update if it does change for you, I do find it can get pretty warm, but not uncomfortably so (except for the mouthpiece, that is a little uncomfortable in its heat even on a mid level temp, when drawing harder)

@Shit Snacks I've tried fine, med, coarse, dry, fresh you name it.
I even did the bottlecap bottom like I do with the summit for better heat transference as opposed to the plastic oven bottom.
I tried using a flat summit screen in the chamber instead of the standard screen.
I tried packing it loose, semi tamped, and really packed.
I went through so much material trying to get good results it's ridiculous.

This is my second unit too.
My first unit seemed to work maybe a little better until the battery died and it wouldn't charge or even light up. I only had a short time to try it.
That was the black and stainless.
My new one is the all black but that should have no bearing on its performance.

I like the size, digital display, micro USB, and how fast it heats to temp but IMO the transporter and V7 give me just as good results.
I also find the HipVap takes FOREVER to charge back up.:myday:

I'm personally getting unsatisfactory results for sure.
Perhaps I have another bad unit?

If you guys are happy with the HipVap and getting good results, any suggestions would be greatly welcome and much appreciated. This way I might be able to narrow it down to possibly another faulty unit.....

I'm going to give the HipVap a break for now. I have an alfa on the way. I will try the alfa to see how it compares to it..

Hi, l still get great results with mine!
Honnestly I only pack it half way, put a provided screen on the top and I start at 380....I need to try to start at 400 to check the cloud production with water filtration....although I'm very happy with the smooth vapor it produces, taste is better too.

I was in contact with the manufacturer and I get some infos:

-"We use the PPS raw material R-4-200NA. The heat deflection temp is 500 fahrenheit degrees. Some discoloration is to be expected." (he spoke about the black plastic bottom...)
-"You should manage over 2-2.5 hours of vaping off the HipVap at ~180" I think he means 380 and it was the answer about the battery life I reported.

He is still waiting is manufacturer account....

Not sure what's going on with your vape doc.
When you first receive your units are you doing burn offs at 430?
I'm going to do a session tonight, and after wards check the herb chamber temp with my infrared thermometer.[i got it after watching breaking bad..that scene with the tea kettle lol]

Yes, I did 5 ten minute burnoffs on 430F and swabbed the chamber and ran an ISO dipped pipe cleaner through the airpath.
I even soaked the silicone MP in coconut milk so there are no weird tastes, just not very impressive results so far.

Yeah, I can see what you mean now that I've done more session with various grinds and packs, i think it just isn't the most efficiently designed conduction oven...

Definitely gets you there, but as well as other devices I dont know... Its certainly a nice ergonomic form that worked well enough out in the city last night, but given the amount packed into it compared to other device at the same temps, not too impressive.

Overall, it is kind of like Pax1 meets Ascent I suppose (those two also have inefficiently designed session conduction ovens, in my experience and shape wise), with a smidge of FlowerMate in it too, a fine device but not really cutting edge function-wise...

It does have some nice features though, plus simple and stealthy to use

You may notice on your mobile phone that it 'trickle charges' the last 10%. As a Lithium Ion battery gets more full the charging rate drops. The last hour may well charge the last 10% of the battery. On the plus side your HipVap (and other electronic devices) will charge faster when the battery is low. The HipVap provides around 2.5 hours usage time at 380F, that’s 12-15 10m cycles. It fully recharges in 4 hours with the provided adapter.

"Though I do agree the temp display is not fully accurate, particularly after a draw is taken, just like the Ascent."

As colder air is pulled through the chamber the temperature cools. The thermister checks the temperature 200 times/second and updates the display every second. There may be a slight variation from the displayed degrees F similar to other devices. If so you will need to adjust slightly to accommodate this but the variation should be consistent. With 2 degree incremental temperature control you will be able to find that sweet spot with a high degree of accuracy.

OK, we have heard you and have designed a longer mouthpiece of which we will add two to the box next month, the new mouthpiece is also compatible with the Pinacle Water Pipe and the Namaste Water Pipe.

"there is a slight metallic smell coming from the oven right now, but I'm not through with burnoffs yet."

Based on your feedback we have added proceedures into our manufacturing process to reduce the 'new factory smell'. You can do burnoffs as mentioned above, we recommend if doing initial burnoffs you leave the HipVap to cool for 10 minutes before recharging. You could also 'steam clean' your device. Soaking one of the oil wicks in water, put it in a pod and heat it at 430 for 1-2 minutes. As the device gets hotter you will hear a hissing/bubbling sound as the water boils.

@Vape Dr. Thank you for the first unboxing.

"My biggest complaint with the HipVap is how long it takes to charge. I used it for 7 minutes from a fresh charge, starting at 380F to 420F. It took 1:15 to charge back to green using the factory charger which is rated pretty high at 1700mAh. IMO that is unacceptable."

"I have been using my HipVap for over two weeks and IMO the digital temperature display is not quite accurate, I feel the temps are lower than displayed."

"Couple downsides, aside from the lower body getting warm since it is so small and sleek, the mouthpiece can get hot bc of the metal nub it attaches to. It is very small so your mouth is close to that hot metal. Not terrible but a longer mouthpiece night be nice."

"The mouthpiece does get hot once you go past 390F, that is to be expected..hopefully in the future they will offer a watertool adapter."

OK, we have heard you and have designed a longer mouthpiece of which we will add two to the box next month, the new mouthpiece is also compatible with the Pinacle Water Pipe and the Namaste Water Pipe.

"Building quality seems good BUT the plastic bottom bore me, it seems similar to the Alfa plastic but there is some discolourations (not the same deep dark the alfa get), i would like HipVap communicates here about this topic...."

The internal frame of the HipVap is made from high grade PPS plastic. We use the PPS raw material R-4-200NA. The heat deflection temp is 500 degrees fahrenheit. Some discoloration is to be expected.

Thanks Peter! Welcome welcome,
Great to have you here, and with great news.

That new mouthpiece looks great, double duty. Also digging the factory attempts to get rid of the new smell, very forward thinking

@HipVap You are most welcome for the unboxing video. It was my pleasure.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the thread.
What type of grind would you recommend, and how tightly do you suggest packing the HipVap for best results?

I have tried most every avenue to get the HipVap to perform at its peak, but I only seem to get good results at high temperatures. I would love to take advantage of the low temperatures (350F).

Thank you for clearing up why it takes so long for the light to turn green, the trickle charge should prolong battery life which is a plus.

I am still trying different methods for best results and will not give up until I get the results I know the HipVap is capable of.

Any suggestions for optimal performance would be greatly appreciated.

I love most everything about the HipVap and want to enjoy it to the fullest!:)
