Afternoon guys & gals, I recently broke a small piece of glass off of the mouthpiece on one of my stems. Instead of throw it away I figure I could probably salvage it pretty easily, is their a specific dremel attachment or tool that any of you would reccomend that I use so that I can cut the glass down some?

I've also seen some people say before that they like to remove the built in glass screen/holes and make one large hole in their stock stems what do you suggest for that as well? Thanks!

Professional tools are honestly recommended for cutting glass. With that said , i have done it myself at my own risk using a dremel tool and a diamond bit for cutting glass. It worked out well but please be very careful if you choose to go this route and make sure to wear protective eye wear.

I agree, the right tools and the right technique are needed to do a good job.

I suspect that the web is cored out with traditional 'hole saw' diamond bits like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Tool-...sim_469_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=10WPYZT1WK0V3PZ9F5W9

The key is they cut all around at the same time, a bit plus trying to control the stress especially as it 'breaks through'. I'd go with the drill press, worked securely clamped in the vice using the jaw notch (pad the glass, and be gentle, all you need to do is keep it plumb). Slow speed, light feed and lube it up. Kerosene or very light machine oil is traditional IIRC. There's also some solvent/camphor mixture?

Normally you'd want to 'flame polish'/anneal the raw edges to remove stresses, but that's pretty tough. Best out is to take it easy grinding the hole so as not to make too many. Fine diamond and a light touch should carry the day.

Would it be possible to use a water cooled grinder? Something like this: http://www.tormek.com/en/machines/t7/index.php

You could probably grind flat, exposed spots but it wouldn't make a Turbo stem by cutting the web. You could also probably use a 'wet saw' like the tile/counter guys use to cut ceramic tiles. You can rent them from the places that rent other construction/home improvement tools.
http://www.amazon.com/SKIL-3550-02-...=UTF8&qid=1431742026&sr=8-1&keywords=tile+saw

Since the sides as well as the edge of the blade in such saws are diamond coated, you can 'grind' on the side as well as the edge of the blade.

Low speed, gentle pressure and lube (which also cools the work) are keys.

I used a regular belt sander @3500rpm with good results. IIRC i started at about 80 grit and worked up to ~300 before stopping and finishing by hand with wet/dry paper. Turned out pretty good on both i shortened. But again like said, use gloves and eye protection and i also recommend taping up to the point you want it shortened to.

You can see the 2 PVHES on the end that are noticeably shorter than they use to be LOL

Tormek makes some good sharpeners... But id do some CRAZY stuff for a variable speed KMG with an optional water cooled platen/chiller... SO much lust for this miraculous machine HAHA

Keep in mind you'll also want adequate respiratory protection when grinding glass. Nothing like some delicious silicosis with a cup of coffee in the morning

Agreed. I have a couple respirators, full face shields and a box full of face mask. I have a half face mask 3M 5000 series respirator that i dont like wearing.. I use one called a "Resp-O-rator" as i dont have to worry about a seal with my beard. The guy that came up with the resp-o-rator is a genius. I have never spoke to him, but every time i start sanding on a tropical hardwood or grinding steel i silently thank that man... I always "forgot" to wear other types of masks or would stop working after 10-15 minutes as i just hated to wear them, uncomfortable and they didnt seal well with my beard... But i have no problems wearing this one for HOURS at a time, it doesnt need ANY seal, and i can wear a full face shield or even a welding mask if i needed to on top of it. Full of win, but some might not care for the "mouth" breathing.

Does anyone have problem where after about 5-6 hits, the airflow gets worse and there's only a little bit of cloud when exhaling? When I checked the stem, the weed was really tight together, kinda pucked like and was still green. It's kinda killing my attitude towards the arizer air.

Does anyone find the vapor quality a tad on the harsh side?

Lots of contributing factors. Including the strain your vaping. Sometimes a strain is little more "harsh" than others.

Did you try a lower setting, longer stem, or any water conditioning tool like a bubbler?

Just a longer stem could cool it off a little more and could be all you need. The vortex is actually great for that but even the longer solo bent stem could work for you!

I just got this vape and I definitely enjoy it, it's very effective and efficient. Does anyone find the vapor quality a tad on the harsh side?

Yep. I think a lot of that is the shorter stem. Put one on a Solo (and run the same temperature) and it too is harsher than before. Dropping the heat, I now use step 2 not 3, can help. So of course, does even a modest WT.

Sounds to me like a cure issue. I've had similar things happen in the past before I got serious about cure. A good test is to dump the load, break it up, and see if that sorts it out?

Good luck.

Try a looser pack too. If its packed too tight i sometimes get the same thing.

But also, sometimes after 5 or 6 good hits there isnt much noticeable vapor left... But the herb doesnt remain green in these cases either. And this is more when im using a small bowl "shorty" stem.

A longer stem and a stir may help with the draw resistance. I find a light pack works for me and a longer stem to help with the harshness. If it is harsh turn the temp down. If the clouds are wispy turn the temp up.

It could be a problem with your meds as OF just said. Try a different strain that you know is cured. Wet cannabis doesnt work well in a vaporizer. Not like the combustion days where half way through your session you could dry the load out.

EDIT
It sounds like we all are in agreement.

Yeah this has happened with various strains though and I also try to loosely pack it but by the time it gets hard to pull, I check on it and it becomes a lot more dense than when I packed it. Would it be possible that the unit itself is causing this problem or no?

Occasionally, the air would be fine throughout the whole session with the same strain where previously showed the same problem so I'm not sure if it's the strain

A good test is to dump the load, break it up, and see if that sorts it out?

OF
I've tried that and when I reload it into the stem, I'll get a hit or two of vapor and then nothing. Becomes hard to pull again.

I've had the air a few days. I have some issues in the begging. God damn. Phone fingers.... Had some issues in the beginning...

I have a widened nano screen on the bottom if the heater open side up(basicall y stretched flat. I believe it keeps my stems from going all the way in and covering the 4 air paths.

I tested dome screens. A big dome up I feel like I had issues with weak hits. I'm practically a micro user if I wape at high temps so I though I could use this method with that in mind but it didn't work.

Big dome down. Works, still had draw issues and weak loads even though more was in the bowl. I'm guessing the screen was clogging quickly. Maybe I wasn't used to the stem yet.

Where I'm at now is a trimmed dome (up) the takes up less space. Full packed. I think this is the best. To make up for not being able to do high temp draws (don't wanna dose more than I need) I have been loving doing blue until the vape turns off. It gives me the effect I want, fully functional and clear headed.

I always hated not being able to just relax and smoke for more than one hit haha. So being able to chill until the autoshut off is awesome.

Currently my opinion of the overall draw resistance is 50/50 but at the same time it just works for the style I've found. Since experimenting with screens I started to pack hard. I should probably experiment with loose...I just like the easy clean up.

2 batteries and a 14mm pvheg on there way! -eds almost done with his air stems I think, I'll def get a small gong from him for travel.

Does anyone get by without an external charger, or is it a pain? I'm debating a nitrcore i2, a car charger, or neither.

Tip! -The air with the silicone sleeve fits nicely in a spray can cap (classic spray paint kind) which could be good for a desk or cup holder.

I go at the AA fairly slowly, so I've not experienced too much harshness. If I notice something feels bad, I modify the way I'm drawing, usually by raising the stem a tad but other times by just making sure that I'm breathing in air through the sides of my mouth at the same time I'm drawing through the stem (kind of the sameway I always hit on joints all those many years ago) and that takes care of things for me.

Although… there was a mention above of some serious throat issues with the AA. I rememebered it last night as my buddy and I hit on it after picking up a new allotment. I hadn't had the ability to grind before using, and the bud was moist. I definitely noticed a little throat irritation a little later. Made sure to break things up a bit before my next pack.

Later last night I broke down the huge bud into smaller pieces, and already it's dryer than last night. At some point today I'll set to grinding, which is what I recommend for use with the AA, to make sure the material is dry and to allow for improved draw (provided the material i snot packed in too firmly).

Enjoy!!

I meant to say if you don't lay it on it side (or turn it over to get the water away) you can suck water through the trap by vacuum created by taking it off. Same as you can blow some water out by blowing into the top?

If I'm careful I can pull the WT off the stem (slowly) without spills, then it's easy to reload the stem in the normal manner.

Thanks for the left handed compliment, although I try to take the other approach and give the benefit of the doubt to folks if what they say doesn't conflict with what I already think is true. IMO you can trust me to not lie or try to mislead folks, but then again what would I say otherwise?

Sorry I didn't mean for it to come across "left handed" (had to google that phrase ha ha). You're an excellent contributor to this community and I (and many others) appreciate everything you do here.

I received the USB charging cords you linked to earlier in the thread http://m.ebay.com/itm/281234981407?_mwBanner=1
and after cutting off a small piece they work perfect.

I also received a large ego case in black from eBay that works well. I haven't decided how I'll keep it stocked but I'll post a pic when I do. It's a little large if someone was planning to carry just the Air but I'll throw a few things in to fill it up.

I also encourage grinding mainly due to the fact that everything gets more evenly cooked that way.

I haven't had a full blue session yet, I think I'll try that this afternoon!

Get left brings up a good point.

Dryness and grind may also be why I'm having a better time. I did switch to some that is extremely dry, which in turn increases the grinds fineness (probably). So maybe grind with your grinder upside down to tear it up more... (Unless you have a two piece)

And lastly I forgot to mention herbs!
I got small amounts of chamomile, lemon balm, lavender, spearmint (didn't have peppermint) and skull cap.

Chamomile is great and matches well in a 50/50 mix at low temp.

Lavender was alright but annoying because its shape...

I read bit about vaping lemon balm... Tried it last night it tastes like unsweetened tea, I think it had a mild effect.. But drinking the tea is better.

The chamomile works good... Simple to use, grab a bud and the pedals or whatever just fall off with no need to grind... Adds a sweet flavor... It might mask the smell too at the right ratio.

@OF @SquirrelMaster oh may have solved my charging dilemma!! Will that USB cord linked above work for charging? Will it work in common USB car chargers and cell chargers?
You had to cut a piece off to make it work?

Yes it works for charging in any common wall or car charger. I had to ring my knife around the plastic to cut off a small (1/8" maybe) ring as the stock Air charging cord has a longer end.

Edit: Thanks @OF you beat me to it.
