Hey Shit Snacks,
I am very familiar with the Elevape SV so I know exactly what your talking about. That was a concern of mine too with herb dust and particles falling through the screen and into the heater but I asked Trevor if it was a problem if some did get past the screen and he said it wouldn't hurt the unit. I may put a fine screen in the bottom of my production Grasshopper just to put my mind at ease but I really don't think its an issue. Inhaling regularly with the Grasshopper would pull some of the dust out anyway, at least in theory.
I doubled up my screens on the Elevape with the finest screen possible and nothing gets through that, so I think the same could be done here but I cant recommend anything. I only did that with the Elevape to prevent anything from falling on the sensor and the other breath sensor below the coil that cannot really be opened up to be cleaned because I think that breath sensor could be potentially sensitive but I don't think the Grasshopper has anything that sensitive directly under that screen.
So my battery tests are going well and they seem to be consistent so far, but I need do more. Right now I've only tested the Grasshopper on setting 3.0 to 3.5 on the dial, and I click it on and off each hit, with the on time being about 10 seconds at a time and I've been getting a good 20-30 clicks per charged battery with this method. I think that's fairly good considering how small these batteries are and its not as big of a deal because you can just pop in another charged battery if it dies, unlike other vapes where that's not an option. I will be trying other methods and I will let you know

Ah interesting, perhaps the Hopper heater can burn off any tiny particles that fall through like a log vape can?

Wonder how that affects taste, though its been great you do say, though it is early and your mostly on 3-3.5, I would hope taste would be fantastic at 340-356F regardless. I am really excited about it's power with the low temps, I wonder how much worse taste and battery life is on the higher ones...

Would be nice to know if a nitecore might work, already have one as well. Maybe somebody wants to ask Trevor? They did mention 3D printing a custom battery charger as their first accessory release.

With fast charging, and use while charging (shouldn't take too long to get up to a level where you can take a hit, even if battery is dead), and spares, I'm not too worried regardless, even if I have to use it like my firefly and charge only in the device, I think I'll make do fine for a while (particularly bc I will have both an ss and colored Ti to charge em in...)

They have succeeded in pushing this thing back enough that people are starting to rationalize the discrepancies in the info they are dispersing. "Ok 4 hours was unrealistic". "10 minutes will be fine". If they keep pushing it back maybe it will be ok to just get a pack of papers and a lighter with a grasshopper on it.:lmao:

I guess I missed the part where the battery was proprietary. That kind of bugs me, because if anything happened with the company, my battery supply would be cut off, and eventually, the unit itself might be useless. Guess one can order 8 or 10 batteries for the long haul.

That won't work too well. Lithium batteries start to lose their ability to hold a full charge from the moment they are manufactured. Even if you take perfect care of them, they'll be of little use within a few years. Sorry.

On the bright side, in five years, vaporizers will most likely be much more advanced than the GH is now.

:rolleyes:Wow, thin skin for this thread.
Sorry to offend.
My point: they should deliver what they promise. AND promise what they CAN deliver.
It's not thin skin.

It's the repetitive and unending whining about their original claims. There are a few people in this thread that like to pop up and remind everyone on a semi regular but unscheduled basis.

Just how many reminders are needed? Do these people think we all have Alzheimers and can't remember something, despite the 453, 669 reminders already?

Also, I'm convinced there are a few on here that are hoping we all get taken for a ride. The glee involved in rubbing every setback in our faces is freaking weird.

I've been on 5 crowdfunding campaigns, and none of them issued tracking numbers.
Maybe this will be the exception.
Although none of the others had personalized invoices like GH does....
I was in on the Hammer Pro Campaign and we were issued tracking numbers. It's not that hard to do.
So, why can't you use the GH battery in a nitecore charger?
You can charge in a stand alone charger.
The GH battery size is proprietary and not a standard size.
Most all chargers with spring loaded connectors(like the Efest LUC V4) can charge batteries down to the 10440 size(which is only 44mm long)
The GH battery is 63mm long. 63mm is ≥ 44mm, therefore will fit in the charger just fine.
No need for any special chargers/adapters/holders.
Nitecore and Efest Luc's have both spring-loaded sliders to snap the battery in and also have multi-amp settings, from 500ma up to 2a. They charge just about every battery type, I think the Grasshopper's batteries will charge just like any other 14500/18650/26650 battery.

At least, I hope! Already got them for my ecigs.
See reply above.

This is my biggest concern about the Grasshopper. Using a nontraditional size means if Grasshopper Labs folds in several years, we may have to live with what batteries are on the market for the next few years and that's it. (Unless some 3rd party chinese vendor picks up the demand for this new battery size and begins selling them online)

@BuzzDanklin or @Just Justin - have you tried the vaporizer without any battery in the device? Will it work? If we can keep the vaporizer itself running off 'life support' (external battery), we could keep the vapes going. But that's if it will run without a battery, or if it can run with a dead battery (plus external USB charger).

Do I care either way? Nope, not really. Just looking forward to getting my grubby hands on my GH! In the meantime, I think I'll go look for a sweet custom pen holder case for my GH

I still think talking about the initial 3-4 hour battery claims is a total waste of time, even for this thread... It is what it is, its been done to death

@Ratchett its not pass through, need a battery in there to work...

GH plan is for the long run, obv if they fold we all fold

But can it pass through a dead battery?

Either way we are going to be fine people. Grasshoppers gonna hop. It'll be around a long time.

External charger? Only if it is a great price. Otherwise, i would just purchase a second SS Grasshopper and thus i would have an external charger and a backup GH in one swoop.

@IAmKrazy2 You are a brilliant, brilliant human.

The $135 battery charger that doubles as a vape!

Have either @BuzzDanklin or @Just Justin charged the battery in a Nitecore or other charger? Still curious as to how effectively we can keep batteries charged without having to charge it in the GH.

I have use X1 AC Plus plenty of times to charge, however it was with this 3 printed battery holder. Matt told me never to charge faster than 2 amps, but I still usually charge at 1amp if I have the time just, hopefully that will keep the batteries lasting a little bit longer.

Hmm, then saying it can be used while charging is kind of misleading...maybe I'm the only one that feels that way though. Just seems like using it being able to charge as it is being used as a selling point implies that it at least will trickle charge. Edit: Although I suppose it will at least slow down power consumption when you're using it, so it's still somewhat useful.

It can be used while charging, but its like the Crafty, and a lot of other vapes with partial passthrough, where the heater can overpower the chargers ability.

@Ratchett The device will not function with no battery even if its plugged in.

If the GH batteries are in fact 63mm in length, I can not see why my Nitecore i4 wouldn't suffice (at least size wise), as the numerous 18650s I routinely charge are ~65mm in length.

thats all fine and dandy, but again. Once the battery is shot and doesnt hold a charge, will the battery being inside the unit be sufficient enough to allow a pass through "charge" even though it cant be charged or hold a charge?

As long as it still works while plugged in with a shot battery then the pen will still work then thats good news!

Idk it's not full pass through.

I would imagine it wouldn't work, depending on how crapped out your battery is. If the charger can't support the heater 100% by itself. Otherwise you could 3d print a dummy battery that's just a contact and have a desktop grasshopper.

Sorry to :shit: on anyone's hopes and dreams :p

The one time I bugged Trevor was about battery life, he confirmed they had to push the manufacturer a lot to get what they got - does seem like designing your own battery is a risk for sure. Still, if I can get 4 bowls out of a charge that's all I need, and considering the GH does it w 750mah and my MFLB needs 3-4 2200mah batteries for the same result...

Anyway, I've only ever been curious about updates, this time I'm anxious. From all accounts they have everything they need and are working to deliver, so if they don't go beyond the trademark vagueness in tonight's update, what would that mean?!
