Discontinued The Herbalizer

It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
I received my replacement bowl from Herbalizer on Saturday.

The first thing I noticed when I looked at the new bowl was that the inner metal portion easily spins around inside the outer section. Neither of my original Herbie bowls did this and I'm pretty sure this would start to get irritating fast. I brush out my bowl after every use and if the inside metal portion spun with the brush it wouldn't work. I'd have to hold the hot metal part of the bowl still in order to brush it out.

I emailed Carrie back and told her that my original bowls didn't rotate like this. I asked if she would send me one that stayed in place. She said it was normal for them to rotate so she wouldn't send me another.

"I'm very sorry but, as you have a completely normal bowl, I'm not able to send you another one. This is just due to processing variation."

I asked nicely a couple more times and was denied each time.

Now I'm trying to decide if I should just keep my broken bowl that doesn't rotate and glue the metal ring back on myself.

I'm wondering how many metal inner bowls out there stay in place when you brush them out and how many rotate freely within the outer portion of the bowl?

A few months ago, I remember a few users on the forum had issues with the metal ring detaching from the bottom of their Herbie bowls. I just had the same thing happen to mine so I contacted Herbalizer support. Exactly 10 minutes later I received a response that they will replace the bottom half of the bowl and send a label for me to return the old one.

After dealing with a number of other warranty issues on other vaporizers, I have to say this is the best customer service I've received so far. It sure doesn't seem like a company that plans to go out of business.

My two bowls from a year ago stay in place.

Both of my bowls are spinners. Every Herbie bowl I have encountered has been a spinner 7+ bowls.

When the bowl is very clean and fresh you will notice this more. Once a few bowls are done our of the bowl it seems to spin less and less until it gets a ghold clean.

Edit. To see if your bowl spins or not, take off the top part. Turn the bottom of filling chamber upside down and give it a tap on a hard surface. If your bowl is loose after this you have a spinner.

Okay, now I feel lucky to have got 2 non-spinners in the first place. It wouldn't matter much if I didn't brush them out when they're hot, but it seems that's the easiest way to keep them really clean.

Anyone know what kind of epoxy or glue is safe for gluing the bottom metal ring back on my old bowl?

When my bowl failed Herbalizer sent me a prepaid shipping label to send the faulty portion back. Consider yourself lucky.

I think there is epoxy talk somewhere in this thread involving @Engineer

Oh I got the prepaid label too. I have to send something back to them. I just need to decide whether to return the new bowl they sent or the old one. I'll see if I can turn up the epoxy info with a search.

I always fill bags at 445F. I just put in brand new screens, and new bumpers. I never fill the bowl more than half way, and always loosely packed.
I'll have to try using bags for a bit and see what life I get out of them. My main temps are 390 and 430. Could be that you're going too hot at 445?
My bowl does not spin. (I just checked)
My bowl spins but I see no harm done by it. My herbalizer works fine with it, if not better than my brother's older unit.

Almost there...
I was one of the first 50 Herbie owners in the world and my original and still perfectly performing bowl is a spinner.
Just took it to be how they were supposed to be.
Never given me any problems brushing it out.

Everything spins on mine.... Bottom bowl and top screen both spin when I have them clean. I figured it to be normal functionality.

A sticky bag will definitely bog down the blower. They aren't too terrible to replace on your own instead of ordering complete new bags.

Changing the bag can be as simple as putting the cleaned pronged green piece inside a fresh turkey bag, and then pull the turkey bag through the green plastic loop. Push the pronged green piece back through the opening while it is still in the bag until this clip locks in place.

Most turkey bags are only rated to 400°F. Herbalizer claims their turkey bag is a proprietary bag and is safe to 450°F.

Also, exposing high % ISO will react with the hard green plastic pieces.

One thing I've found through replacing bags and getting frustrated over escaping vapor is to double a portion of the opening back over the green O-clip/pronged clip. I had been placing the pronged clip/o-clip "flush" at the end of the bag. Months later I remembered that the clips from the factory were set a little farther back with the excess pulled back towards the bag (albeit neater/tighter than my example below). I'm back to blowing leak-free bags ever since!

I normally get about a week's worth of service (@ max temp) per bag before residue starts building near the inlet and they get too tacky for my liking. The Vapebags brand are great direct replacements for the Herbie bags.

That's basically the method I use. No leaks noted. No need for the thin orange tape either.

Herbie and glass adapters?
I'm ordering some glass adapters and looking for what pieces are very useful for Herbie?

I have the Ratchett Herbie Song ( 18 mm silicone male cap). That works for my 18 mm HydraTube and for inserting a whip.

---I'm thinking about an OregonGlassBlower 18 mm female vape adapter but in the bigger 12 mm? nipple to use the bigger SSV whip tubing . It would sit on 18 mm Song. Then I'd have a 3/8" inner diameter whip.

---Also their 18 mm female glass mouthpiece. Stock is about 7" but can alter. Curved and flared tip.
Use this over the 18 mm male Song

-Any other options/configurations that work well with Herbie, such as with miniVAP accessories too---like the miniVAP wire basket module or ??

Currently I do a gazillion :) options with my miniVAP and am looking to get adapters to open more Herbie options.

Thanks

My bowl is a spinner ;)
