It's always been one of my favorites as well:popcorn:

I just finished watching Unbreakable. I definitely see why it's considered a comic book movie sans an actual comic book. Sam Jackson is definitely the best part, IMO. His character shows a serious knowledge of comic books.

I think my favorite bit is Sam Jackson’s reaction when a dude wants to buy what is obviously a stand-in for an original Kirby for his 4 year old - he refuses to sell it to him.

Reminds me a little bit of this. I own the shield, my brother in law has the hammer, trying to find a Superman costume that'll fit him (he's kind of huge - 6'8", 325+lbs).

And I hope this is the last big purchase for a bit (except at a con)- got this because Joe Kelly will be at Awesomecon in DC in two weeks. Hoping to get him to sign it. Near-mint Deadpool volume 1, #1. I am hoping my gear gets here by then so I can attend as Beardpool. Got the mask, a tactical belt with pouches, have a foam katana and a Deadpool top en route. If they get here in time i just need a prop gun and some red pants. I have a nerf gun but those aren't allowed at most cons these days.

I watched Powers from the Playstation Network. Very different from the printed. Not bad, just very different. I read the series first as a primer.

I like the writing and acting in Powers. Especially Eddie Izzard as Wolfe.

But aren't the shitty effects and cheap sets a little distracting? Feels almost like watching an early 80s Doctor Who.

True, true, great acting, writing and directing can outshine any production shortcomings. For instance, I still love the Troughton, Pertwee, and Tom Baker Doctors Who, because the writing, acting and directing usually more than compensate for the lack of effects. But I do not see the writing and directing in Powers as being up to that level (they do not have the equivalent of a Douglas Adams or Terry Nation writing for them). The acting, most definitely, is as good as you could want, but not the other parts. I don't blame any one person for the problems, but it is kind of obvious that it is the 1st live action television production PlayStation Network has done. It does seem odd to me though, as Sony has made tons of stuff with excellent effects before, and Sony has CGI programmers up the yin-yang from game development. So it isn't like they couldn't access people who know what they're doing. And those damn purple lights whatshername shoots are distractingly crappy, like something from an 8 bit video game. And if you pay close attention, some of the sets wobble.

You are right, it is a great cast, and it has halfway decent writing, and by the standard of any show except Daredevil it's pretty true to the comic. But IMHO, the effects, and the lack of any snappy Bendis dialog (kinda his signature in comics) has made it disappointing. I will still eventually watch it all- already paid for all of season 1- but I'm not rushing to see new episodes at this point. I think I'm two behind now. On the other hand, I have been enjoying Bendis and Oehming's new comic, the United States of Murder Inc.

Maybe, if they get a 2nd season, Bendis will actually write more than one episode (so far he only wrote one, "Level 13").

Another part of my disappointment with it is that I was hoping the first non-zombie, creator-owned comic book tv adaptation would be as good as any of the DC or Marvel ones. Creator-owned is the smallest sector of comics TV and movies, and are the hardest to get made, since they don't normally have Marvel or DC behind them. There is at least one more coming- Jim Starlin's Dreadstar is in development. But that one needs good effects even more than Powers does, since Dreadstar is full-on space opera- space ships, multiple alien species, exploding planets, etc.

I'm frankly more interested in AKA Jessica Jones at this point, which is another Bendis creation, but is being done by Netflix, ABC, Disney, and some of the people involved with Daredevil. Plus that one has David Tennant, one hopes in purple make up (he's playing Purple Man). And Luke Cage is likely going to be heavily Bendis as well. And of course he wrote the New Avengers and Avengers Civil War titles (though not the main sequence, which was Millar3).

These were sent to me by legendary FC member @Seren (close personal friend of mine ;)) in exchange for "every day" access to my overweening wit, depressimistic sense of humor, lackadaisical memory, and frequent ridiculous mood swings.

I think she got a pretty good deal.

Oh yeah, I'm all about the name-dropping.

But she did tell me that she would only send these to me on the condition that she remain anonymous, so don't tell her I said anything, okay? :ko:

So you're saying the rest of us can expect to receive invoices from you at some point? I knew I should've been keeping track of all this....:p

Supergirl TV show trailer. For some reason Calista Flockhart (sp?) is on the show. And there's a Jimmy Olson, who is a go-between for Supergirl and her cousin Superman (cuz you can't just speak to your cousin?).
But I'm neither a DC nor a Super-whoever fan so I don't really care.

So what did folks think of the weird-ass season finale of Arrow? None of the other finales struck me as odd, but that one did. Liked the finales of both Gotham and The Flash. But Arrow felt like a series finale to me, despite there being a 4th season already being written and with a bad guy already announced.

This whole season has taken Arrow from my favorite comic book TV to barely top 5. Daredevil and The Flash are now my favorites (since Constantine has not been picked up, the Flash goes to #2 for me, if for no other reason than the telepathic gorilla). Granted, Daredevil would be my #1 now irrelevant of what happened in this season of Arrow - IMO nobody else is close to Daredevil in quality yet. But what they did this season made it not even my favorite DC TV anymore :(

Arrow didn't make the cut for me. Gotham and daredevil are both pretty good
I liked hellblazer too, maybe some other network will pick it up?

Legends of Tomorrow (Arrow / The Flash team spinoff) trailer. They goddamn bring Sara back to life as White Canary (who, in the comics, is a villain from another universe with, as far as I know, no connection to Black Canary). I'll try it cuz Arthur Darvill is in it.

In last nights Arrow it Actually seemed they were setting up for the "Legends or tomorrow" series to replace "Arrow" to me. Had to be one of the most confusing 'season' finales i remember seeing 'cause it did seem to be the end of the actual "Arrow" series to me and set next season up to be based on all new story lines and with maybe a new cast of "Heros" in the making. (i know nothing about the comics and only know the story from TV)

John Doe.

Yeah, yet another FOX show cancelled just when it was just getting really good. I still have a hard time investing myself to deeply into new shows on Fox, feels safer to start watching their shows if they make it to a 2nd or 3rd season.

Not just him, his brother from Prison Break too, Dominic Purcell, who I've loved since he did John Doe.
Cool, didn't notice that. Miller was the one that grabbed the best actor nomination but they were both great.
I was bummed when prison break ended, everything about that series was first-rate.

edit: was just reading about john doe (looks great!), here's the snippet:

"Due to the series' cancellation, the final episode ended with an unresolved cliffhanger, revealing that Digger, John's close friend, was in fact the true leader of the Phoenix Organization. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creators Brandon Camp and Mike Thompson revealed what would have happened and John Doe's true identity.

"Make that someone who looked like John's friend. The villain unmasked in the finale was actually just a Phoenix member with some fancy facial reconstruction. Turns out, the Phoenix believed Doe was the Messiah and its members were actually protecting Doe from a second group, which wanted him dead. The truth: Doe was injured in a boating accident. That mark on his chest? A scar left by a piece of shrapnel from the explosion. His Überbrain? A by-product of transcending his body during a near-death experience, traveling to a spiritual plane where all the universe's questions are answered."

That is some excellent info. I had not heard the creators talk about the intended outcome before. Let me know if you find John Doe available digitally anywhere. I've never been able to find it streaming, for download, or on DVD.

It is very comic book-y. A dude (Purcell) turns up knowing damn near everything, from the number of dimples on a golfball to what stocks to buy on any given day to how to speak Sanskrit, but not his own name or where he comes from.

EDIT- Just read the EW thing, and I have a new theory. The last thing they say is that John Doe's real name may have been Fred. In Agent X #1, Agent X/Alex Hayden (who is parts of Deadpool and a German assassin merged in the corpse of a Yakuza enforcer) tells one person he is "Fredpool, Deadpool's brother". So John Doe may really be Deadpool's animated corpse sorta-brother Fred(pool).

I love the Hellboy character so fucking much.

If you got a problem with Hellboy, then buddy, you got a problem with me. :goon:

He has a cat tail, and a big heart, and a preference toward alcohol, and a reluctance to his demon birth, and just wants to be cool - and fails miserably. :)
