Discontinued The Firefly Vaporizer

Yep, I had a 750 battery, was totally disappointed, and thought the Firefly sucked. After learning that the issue was defective batteries (thanks to FC members), I contacted Firefly, and they sent a new battery under warranty. Wow, what a difference! It convinced me to buy a second battery and an external charger, so I'd never have to set the Firefly aside (at least not for charging).

I'm loving my Firefly now, and my wife (not previously a big fan of weed in any form) is also hitting it nearly every night before bedtime. That may be more a statement about flavor and effect than battery life, but an important point nonetheless, 'cause without the two former, the latter wouldn't matter.

I'm still running a couple of the og 750's, they still work great for me except in cold weather. But there was a lot of bad ones after that. Now I almost want mine to fail, these new ones sound like a real upgrade

I'll use his busted ass left in the cold 750s to test the oil pad lol. I'm going to order the official concentrate and 2 of the new batteries as soon as I get my new (used) firefly hopefully tonight.

I've run into a bit of a conundrum and I'm not sure what to do? I originally purchased a Firefly in March '14 and had it for no more than two weeks before I had to send it cross country for servicing. After voicing my concerns with Shelby (very nice and helpful) in customer service, they actually swapped my unit out for a brand new one and in the color that I originally wanted. I also ordered the external charger and an extra battery that they were able to include in the shipment of my brand new unit (saved me on additional shipping costs by doing so). I used my FF quite extensively for the next five or so months and then ran into more problems. I can charge both batteries completely and get maybe two minutes off of one and the other won't even last the length to heat the unit up. I apologize that I didn't read through the prior 215 pages, but it sounds like it could be the batteries (hopefully) and not an issue with the internals of the unit. The problem is I don't know if I want to gamble on some new batteries (especially if they're not the culprit), and other than sending the unit back for inspection, I'm outta ideas. I know that electronics aren't always going to work flawlessly, but as a PAX, Ascent, Crafty (just purchased) and Cloud EVO owner, I've had more problems with the FF than all the other units combined. Will FF swap out batteries if they're deemed faulty or am I just fucked paying $30.00 a piece all over again? I'm slightly concerned with everything based on my past luck, or lack thereof.

PS. I haven't contacted FF as of yet, just hoping for some feedback first.

Tough one as you may be, date-wise, right on the line with regard to getting free batteries. Anyone receiving or buying the 750 (older) batteries anytime after last September generally rates a free replacement, as that generation of batteries was faulty. It's not entirely clear that you ever had the faulty batteries given your dates...but your experience suggests that you might indeed have had bad batteries.

Since you asked, here's what I would do: call them. Tell them your story, let them know you love the FF but are very disappointed in the virtually worthless battery performance. See if they don't just send you a new 770 battery for your trouble. (In fact, I'm willing to bet they will.) And if it makes you feel better, 30 bucks for one of the new batteries is money well-spent...they work really well and last 2x the length of the old ones (at peak) on a single charge.

But start by calling them and telling them your story and see what happens. Please let us know how you make out...good luck!

I have 2 old batteries right now in the used firefly I bought off my friend. BAD.

I've got a brand new one from Firefly coming. I bought that and the oil pad. Its been a while since I have had a nice powerful battery for a firefly, so I expect it'll be WELL worth the $30.

If the concentrate pads work well I'll be even happier. Does anyone load a LOT of oil, like .5 or more at once, and hit it for a long time, days ideally? I don't mind charging the battery, but if I can load a ton and just vape it away hit by hit long term that would be ideal since I'm missing my thermovape cera for exactly that reason. Thinking trying a month of just oil no flower just for kicks, wondering how well the firefly will fill my portable oil vaporizing needs?

Thanks dude, I really appreciate the prompt and timely feedback! Based on the last few pages that I've been reading, it sounds like they released a bunch of doo-doo batteries unfortunately. As soon as I leave work I'm gonna get them on the phone like a bullpen coach and see what they have to say.

You are welcome! I'm sure they'll make you happy one way or another. They have a way of pulling that off!

Yes, there was a first generation of batteries that were good but not great, but decent. The second gen of those 750s were, as you say, doo-doo. (Not sure what the technical term is...I'm not an engineer. ) They fired that manufacturer and are now shipping some pretty high-quality batteries...I have yet to hear anyone complain about the new 770s. I think you'll be pretty happy with them, and it'll re-arrange your "favorite vape" queue pretty quickly.

Rather than risking messing up the interior of my FF, I use very small amounts of concentrate. I'd rather clean my pads than have a messy FF. Mine still looks like the day I bought it.

Have you ever tried loading several days worth at once? Will it work that way almost wicking out of the pad, or does it vape it all, no matter how much you load? I'm thinking I'd like to use it how I use those cheap shitty pens, load a bunch and hit it until its low. The difference being no terrible material and flavors like all of the pens.


I have no problem with frequent cleanings, I plan on that anyway.

I sure hope the next gen will allow plug-in use. I'm not an engineer either, but it seems like it shouldn't be that hard. I've had all sorts of devices -- vapes, shavers, laptops -- that I stretch more use out of by plugging them in while investigating solutions to bad batteries.

I hate to admit it, but there is not a device that has hit the market that would hold several days' worth of anything for this old heavy-hitter. I'd rather rotate the three pads and keep them clean, along with my Firefly. I'm afraid if I put enough concentrate on a pad to last a long time, it would eventually seep through the bottom of the pad and make its way to the inner workings.

After about 2 months of using my Firefly exclusively, I pulled the Herbalizer out of the closet a couple of nights ago. I thought it might be nice to mix things up a bit.

Not surprisingly, I still think the Firefly tastes better, and is capable of producing equivalent clouds (ok, a slight stretch on the latter, but still not bad). But, last night I tried some wax in Herbie, and it not only tasted fabulous, but it kicked my butt as well.

So, the point is, I haven't tried wax in the Firefly yet. Questions for those who have; Were you truly satisfied with the output? Have you tried a Herbalizer pad in the Firefly, and does/would it work? Would it be worth it to order some Firefly pads?

I don't have an Herbie so don't know about the pads. I know the three FF concentrate pads for $10 have brought new life and interest to the FF. The taste is as good as you'd expect with FF. I'm very satisfied with the amount of vape I get from a tiny little ball of wax, similar to the amount I'd use in my Muad-Dib. Using it this way has resulted in no seepage, just a bit of stickiness which is easily cleaned with an ISO wipe.

Forgot my big beef with firefly. They use fucking FedEx. If there's no other options for carriers I'll have to get my car charger and future batteries and concentrate pads elsewhere. I refuse to do business with FedEx. My oil pads and one battery (small box) that I ordered Sunday was due today. FedEx says perhaps tomorrow. They never have once delivered on sat to me, so now I'm HOPING it comes Monday. Shipping that takes 8 days AND is not free shipping really sucks.

Again can't blame firefly, but hopefully they offer ups or USPS as options that I just missed this time, or I'll be unable to ordered directly anymore. Come on guys. Over a week to ship a 0.2lb package, and you charge $8.10 on top for that? How is either other major carrier not better than that? Could have snagged the battery and pads on eBay with free shipping and been enjoying them right now, but I try to order direct and support companies I like, when possible.

That's unfortunate, and a little weird. FedEx is pretty impeccable in our neighborhood, and often deliver on Saturdays (they use local delivery folks to do that, so some random van shows up and gives you a package). I have had way worse issues with UPS, at least when we lived in Seattle...here in Maine UPS is pretty great.

I don't know what other options FF offers; might be worth a call to them to find out. (Something like "you realize I'm not buying from you unless you give me more options")

I don't wanna be pushy because I love the company. I just can't handle FedEx. I'm sure its my area, but my friends in the same area also say things like "I can't think of one FedEx delivery that was positive in any way at all". For me a good chunk of them go missing. The very best case scenario with FedEx in my area is that it shows up at all several days late. Its strange because ups and USPS have no issues at all and there is nothing unusual about my suburban town lol.

Kind of off topic, but its frustrating. I want to support firefly but I'd rather drag my bare ass through a field of cacti than deal with FedEx. Worst case I'll get through resellers who ship with someone else, but still I love going " factory direct" with companies I like. And I like firefly a lot.

Just ask them (politely) to mail it.

ARGH. I know they've had some supply chain issues but this is like the third time I've heard this story. Not sure why these warehouses can't get their shit together.

You now have an excellent case for the "polite insistence on USPS" suggestion.

Tonight I will load some Girl Scout Cookies in my FIREFLY with my 770 battery.

Me too, but I'll only expect my GSC to last a bowl with these bad batteries

I noticed my recent warranty replacement didn't come with a 770 battery so I called and asked if I could swap the battery out. They (FF store) sent me a 770 without even needing to send back the 750 battery. Very cool!

I have to say that most of my concerns have been solved with the addition of a screen. I hated that after the first draw, the bud would break down and get all stuck in the gummed up window and ports. Putting a second screen over the top of the bowl just fixed all that instantly!

I still like my Lotus best for ease of use. It is literally, hit it and quit it. But on weekends, the FF is nice to sit back and enjoy. Stirring and lid popping is more involved with the FF, but sometimes its nice not to mess with a torch.

This new FF is a cooler running model. It seems impossible to combust and if I hit it over and over when already dark it just starts to char. I kind of like it running cooler. My last unit would char the bottom faster.

I am also stoked because the draw seems much easier on this one. The last one was like drawing on a super, thick milkshake.

There's a lot more ff users out there that never come to fc than do, and they probably know nothing about the battery mAh differences. I'm not surprised that ff would want to get rid of the 750s as we're likely the only ones requesting 770s in their place, as long as they're not the defective ones but how to tell.

Sadly, those users probably think the firefly is a piece of shit vape. Then they say as much to their friends etc. If I was firefly I'd have these 750s in the trash. If people view the firefly as 1 bowl per battery, it'll definitely hurt their reputation, and in turn sales. If the firefly was this bad on battery by design, I'd go back to the mighty and sell the firefly again.
