Anyone here with intolerance to milk?

My dad raised me, so I grew up drinking milk everyday. Until he remarried when I was 15. That's when I was introduced to soda. I've been addicted ever since. Now every time I drink a glass of milk I end up suffering the next day or in the middle of the night. But I refuse to drink lactaid with my PB&J!!!
Soda's bad for you. Don't succumb to peer pressure, just say no ;)

I was looking into better pills so I can enjoy dairy without issue and was told by two nutritionists at separate times that diary isn't good for you. In fact if you watch diary commercials today they don't talk about calcium or strong bones or anything. I stick to almond milk now. There is supposed to be a really good cheese substitute but I forgot and it's only available online.

As someone with Gastroparesis, GERD, and a Hiatal Hernia I can also vouch for probiotics as being extremely helpful in reducing gastrointestinal distress caused by various foods and dairy. I have also incorporated digestive enzymes into my daily supplements and they have been very effective in giving my lazy stomach the extra boost it needs to process hard to break down foods (especially foods high in fat and fiber).

My probiotic brand of choice is Jarro-Dophilus from Jarrow Formulas. I have been taking these probiotics three times daily for a few years now and they have been so effective I can't go a day without them. Jarro-Dophilus does not cause my GERD to flare up and requires no refrigeration. Because these are enteric coated, they will survive stomach acid and reach the intestines where they will be released. Probiotics that are not enteric coated aren't very efficient as the cultures are destroyed before reaching the small intestine. I have tried many different probiotics from different brand and found the best results with the Jarro-Dophilus formulation. It includes 8 different strains of probiotic cultures (which is most likely why they work the best for my needs).

Didn't mean for this post to turn into a huge advertisement for Jarrow Formulas but this thread is extremely relevant to me and I just wanted to share my experience with various brands and cultures of probiotics. I have finally found a formula that works for me and I will continue to use probiotics for the rest of my life.

I've been taking a twinlabs version, I like to switch around so I will try this next. But I also only want to take it once per day, so I will try the 25 billion version instead of the 5 billion version that @BossBrew linked to. I say the more the merrier when it comes to the "good guys", I got a lot of bad juju that needs clearing out.

Yeah, the recommended does for mine is 3 a day as well, but I'm finding out that just one in the morning does me just fine.
I had an addiction to ice cream 1/2 gallon haģen daze swiss almond chocolate.

I quit cold turkey when I when dairy free/Gluten free.

I'm doing much better however I had to add probiotics to my diet as well as vitamin D gels.

"Fiber Menace" is an amazing book.. found it HERE.
We are currently doing the full-deal protocol, and I'm already feeling better, after just two weeks!
I still wish I could have cheese. *sigh*

Yes!! This is exactly why I drink kefir. I wouldn't be able to eat butter without it, and I *love* butter. ;) Kefir is full of probiotics. I was scared to try it at first, since it's made with milk, but now I make it all the time, and don't feel good without it. It's not just good for being able to eat butter, but I don't have to worry about accidentally eating "traces" or otherwise, of milk in food or the occasional chocolate etc. I only wish there was something like this for gluten so my DH doesn't suffer so much from accidentally being glutened. :(

Even the most harmful foods can be rendered into some of the most nutritious if they are fermented, or "predigested". So many examples besides dairy: soy makes tempeh and miso, wheat makes rejuvelac, etc.
