Noob needing advice

Hey guys, I just found this site and am very happy I did. I just got into the idea of making concentrates and was wondering what you guys think of the method I'm using and what you could recommend to either make my results better or speed the process up. So, I decarbed a little over a finely ground 1/8th covered with aluminum foil at about 220-240F for about an hour (also let it sit for 15 minutes in the oven while it was cooling down) and then covered it in Everclear and sealed it in a glass jar that I have in a paper bag and sitting in a dark cabinet in my kitchen. The article I'm following, http://vaporblog.org/blog/guides/advanced-cannabis-e-liquid-guide/, says to let it soak for at least two days before I use a double boiler to evaporate the alcohol, but I'm going on a week now and am wondering whether it'd be worth it to let it go another week or it that'd be overkill and possibly make the finished oil taste worse. What do you guys think?

What you have is of value - high value - but there is no need to use more than 8 hours to process oil w/Everclear, beginning to end! Waste of patience & energy lol - so keep on but no need to soak - that only removes un-needed waxes, chlorophyll & other oils from the plant. As far as ingestible alcohol extraction, 'quickly' is the operative word.

Thanks for both of your replies. I'll definitely "harvest" it tomorrow. Do you think it'll still be good, letting it sit as long as I have? I totally appreciate the advice.

How would you guys recommend processing with Everclear? The QUISO method? Thanks for all your replies. I'm new to this and would like to learn the best way to do all this stuff. I'm also making a topical tincture for my arthritic mom, with 7 grams of mid-gradeish material, and have let that one sit for two weeks and am going to give it to her once it's been sitting for at least a month. That one is based on an old school Mexico and South America home recipe. It was, and probably still is in some parts of the world, really common to find a bottle of rum or vodka in people's homes with bud soaking in it for two months. Of course, it wasn't decarbed so it'd be a topical THC-A tincture for cuts, aches and pains, or a oral tincture as well.

What you have cannot be "ruined" unless you want to taste it with yer tongue - lol - all the potency is intact; I did not understand you're making e-cigs liquid - for medical use, I use only RSO from trimmed flower tops while my junk/trim/shake I make into coconut oil extract for baked goods evening use (high cbn).

Your recipe for tincture sounds good! Can you post the recipe for that? ... please? I use Iso, but using Everclear only makes the cost rise - Qwiso is a favoured method for producing clear, amber product with less chlorophyll & plant waxes, etc. I call mine "Rose oil" - try it - Quality trim is great, whole bud is highest quality med canna! ... in my opinion, that is. d

Everclear is more money than iso but I have always heard of it being the favorite solvent of the two.

It eouldnt be coincidered qwiso. That is the term for quick wash iso extraction. You would want a qwet(quick wash ethanol)

Are you vaping or eating this concentrate?

Edit: I see ecig liquid. I have never made an ecig liquid, but I prefer to smoke fresh no decarbed concentrates. I use a concentrate pen like the vapor brothers 11 and it can handle even the hardest of shatter. The is also some kind of e juice you can buy to make a concentrate liquid enough for regular ecig style vapes.

if this is only about canna ejuice then i recommend simply doing a QWET or QWISO extraction and mix that return with some Liquidizer fluid or the like. i think there is another option out there.

you can produce some very high quality ejuice this way and it sounds like this would be the faster route as well.

Let me keep this short....done it,soaked like three days, worked mint out of an e cig but to many impurities, between the plant waxes and w.e wound up in the everclear tastes like total CRAP....but it worked for sure. You can let it sit open to evaporate if you don't want to heat ... the entire mixture will eventually fully evaporate, so only let it evaporate effectively as strong as you want the concentrations of goodies to be... for example if you had 100 ml of fluid and let 50 ml evaporate, effectively you have then doubled whatever the concentration in the leftover remaining solution.
Ok maybe not so short.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm going out of town tomorrow morning for a couple of days, so I'm going to strain the plant material out of the tincture late tonight and then freeze it for a couple of days, like the recipe I'm following says, just to see if that extra step will allow me to get some of the unwanted chlorophyll and plant waxes out. The idea is that all that stuff will separate to the bottom after freezing it for 48 hrs and then I'd use two blunt tip syringes, without the tip, and use one to draw the liquid out of the jar from the top and then squeeze into the 2nd syringe, which has had the plunger removed and has a coffee filter inside of it, to do a 2nd filtration into another jar. Anyway, I know it's not going to taste great but I'm okay with that, since I'll learn from it and come up with a better system using some of your suggestions for next time!

I know everyone reading was confused as to what I was trying to make, and that was my fault for not explaining it right and also posting that recipe which is for e-liquids. My plan, after the 2 day freeze and re-filtration, is to let it get to room temperature and then slowly evaporate all the alcohol out, either with my crock pot doing a makeshift double boiler to protect it from getting too hot, or just doing a hot water bath (using my electric tea kettle and pouring some really hot but not boiling water halfway into a bowl and then letting the jar carefully sit in it) a few times until all the alcohol is gone. DabComa, your method of just letting it evaporate naturally is a really good idea. I would do that if I were going out of town while that was happening, but at this point I'm getting impatient and just want to see what I came up with so I'm going to use heat but really carefully and slowly. I thought about doing that last step on that recipe I'm using and adding the EJMix, but I think I just want to try it pure this time and then decide if I want to make E-liquid the next time, which should be soon. Btw amberevil, I will be vaping this concentrate.

Hey krusht, here's the recipe I'm using for my mom's topical arthritis tincture:

6.7 grams of mixed mid-grade bud, dank trim and overdeveloped flowers, and some ABV
6 ounces of Everclear (I could've used ISO but it's for my mom and wanted to give her the option to use it orally too if she wants. The traditional recipe uses vodka or rum.)
1- 12 oz mason jar
1 dark cupboard
1 to 2 months of time and patience!

I didn't decarb any of the weed, other than obviously the ABV which is already decarbed, since I wanted to make it as close to the traditional home recipe as possible, and since it's mainly going to be used as a rubbing alcohol on arthritic knees. Next time I might make a decarbed version just to see if she likes it more, since most of the topical cannabis creams I'm seeing were probably made with decarbed weed. Tonight, once I'm done straining out the bud from the mixture I'm making for concentrate, I'm going to put that stuff in the mom's tincture jar, just to add extra oomph. Since that stuff is decarbed, it might add some extra cbd to it. I might add a little extra Everclear at that point, just to raise the level a bit since I'm adding more plant material, but not much. Anyway, this is a very cool group and I'm glad I found you guys. Nothing better than sharing ideas with each other.

I dont think decarbing gives you more cbd. It can convert thc into cbn but I have not heard anything about cbd.

I once read you can get a higher cbd ratio by using fan leaves, but I dont know how true that is.
