If you use a domed screen top and bottom, like a U-sandwich, you can also increase convection of the solo because only the tip of the dome gets contact with the heating chamber.

Worth trying for sure, and using if you like the results.

But Solo isn't a convection vape (I know it's popularly held to be), but rather conduction Which is why, for instance, Vortex needs more time. In a convection world that's not the case. Air, being drawn in, just doesn't get heated to vaping temperature since the hottest think in the area (the cup) is at that temperature. The air, by the rules of Thermodynamics can be no hotter (and will be less) and therefore can't carry any heat energy to aid production at 390F or whatever you're running. Airflow does help 'spread heat through the load', but the heat (calories not degrees) has to come by conduction. Them's the rules.

Guys also experiment with flat screens (I suspect all of us abandoned the idea?), you might want to try that? Another Member sent a custom make SS plate to try, it too wasn't much good IMO.

When I ball my herb between domed screens, with the idea of achieving a different balance/ratio between conduction & convection, I boost it all the way up to level 7 and do a bit of a heat soak - great result vaporwise, nice even toast, and no dark roast. Altogether different flavor profile. YMMV!

Well done you. IMO the careful attention will add another layer of sweetness to the product.....increasing it's 'specialosity' if you will?

Not sure yet. I know it will be pure bliss. I will be sure to include the Solo. Never thought I'd say, "id like a 'sandwich' with my Solo." Reclaim includes about 5 different profiles, last one was grape ape.

I'm not there with the 'conduction/convection balance' thing. Isn't 'heat soak' a conduction thing? It sure can't be convection with no "fluid" (air) flow.......

Yes, heat soak IS a conduction/radiant heat thing, but it doesn't negate the convection that also takes place during the draw, i.e., the air flow takes place only during the draw, which pulls the heat-soak/radiant heat fluidly through the herb and up the stem. Hence, the conduction/convection ratio - the conduction being longer-lived and more pervasive; the convection being shorter-lived, fluid and proportionally lesser in influence. Not a 50/50 balance, but a ratio nonetheless. The highest heat (level 7) assists to maximize the dynamic.

Level 4 is the most technical I become!
Maybe a D020 and a Claisen because I love water!

The best we can hope for is it's completely heated to the magic temperature (which it's not, quite), it can't be hotter and therefore supply energy to make vapor. FWIW I measured the same deal in Ascent as well. A temperature sensor near the wall reads differently than in the middle, subject to airflow. The difference is there given a long enough soak the temperature in the load becomes very uniform. Not so Solo, I've never tried Air but would think it's the same. I don't understand why. I went to find the T/C (thermocouple) sensor I made to explore this (it sits in the load with leads coming down the stem), but couldn't find it. I may have to make another one........

And forget radiation. Not without a large temperature difference. The formula contains correction factors for the two surfaces (same constant for transmission as reception), the distance between and the temperature delta (difference between source and load in degrees). And we have zero temperature difference, therefore zero IR coupling. To work, like in Bender or T1/Cera with their thermal cores, you need nearly a thousand degrees, the sources are 'glowing hot'. Or you don't move the calories to support vaporization.

i just got my PVHES straight in the mail (took 1 day to get here!!) today for my Solo and love it!!!:love:Brand new experience that is 10x better than before. i love it so much i think it should be the standard stem included with Solo! Thank you to this site and you guys for introducing me to another vape product and a product thats enhanced my experience incredibly.

Only complaint is the vapor is now a little warmer but nothing i cant stand and nowhere close to the point of dislike but its also motivated me to want to purchase a d020 bubbler .( not sure which model, recommendations welcome :) )
