Thank you for sharing. I just lost one unit with full accessories as I left my bag at fucking Publix parking lot on my way to my cousin's. Of course nobody has seen it.
Yeah that sucks Trevor. You aren't going to see that again!

I am actually in town down here in GA. today. Let me know if you wanna vape a bowl! That's the least I can do for you now in this time of sorrow!

Going back up north on Thursday but looking possibly to move back this way.

That's why I'm down here.
You will like South way better my friend. I am also looking into moving to TN, my cousin has great connections with hospital systems and I will check out the situation. I am coming back on Sunday. Have a bowl for me too. I was going to impress them with my Haze but looks like we may need to look for it in the local stores.

I just wanted to share my first few days experience and ask few questions.

I got the haze Friday night after work. Charged up the batteries and maybe got one session in. The next day I packed both bowls with the convection screens and took it along with me on a 13 plus hr day at work. Sunday woke up early packed two bowls and was off work work again. Monday I was off so my girl and I packed two and road tripped for some vegan grub and aimless bask road driving. Today I was off and took it with me to play a round of disc golf with some friends.

This is hands down the smoothest tasting vape I own. I really like using setting 3 and convection screens. To be honest I have only tried the conduction screen once. I can easily get 4 solid sessions off 2 full bowls. I have found my metal mp to be my goto since my glass one is almost unusable with how loose it fits. I learn more about getting this vape to perform at it's best with experience, like giving the oven extra time to heat after the lights r full is pretty vital. Speaking of heat up time this vape is super quick. So far over all I really think the haze is an awesome portable. Its simple and convenient to use plus taste great. I like to bump up to 4 on each bowl to finish them . This leaves the herb very well extracted and evenly dark brown.

I have a few questions though,

First with eds wooden mp do u still just quick wipe it with iso to keep it from sticking?

Second do people use screens on top of the herb? Any different results?

For the wood stem yeah pretty much. I just tab a q-tip in a little iso, swab the inside, wet the other side with some water and do the same, and grab a 2nd to swabbing remaining residue and tends to slide fine, Ill throw in an occasional wipe down of the out and inside of the stem.

I only really use cans so can't answer

dead almost all day...
So has anyone here experimented with grinding vs just breaking off small pieces and vaping without grinding? I know theres a few threads out there about grinding v not but how do y'all in the Haze community roll?

Lowest I go is medium coarse. As I've been praising, the Haze is pretty forgiving on grind consistency.

EDIT: As Scott said, 2 pc. medium Space case for me too.

I switch between fine ground and medium ground herb. I use fine grind with strains that have been more aged. It brings the flavor forward that way. When I get a fresh batch, I usually grind it but not so fine. The great feature of the Haze is the fact that it handles the heat distribution very well. Better than other portables that I owned/used. I can tell this by looking at the ABV. You can do as fine as pollen size or as course as hand picked bud size and both will be equally extracted at the end. I always find grinding extends the session time but flavor is always there no matter what you put in the chamber.

Have mostly tried medium grind but did a little course grind(ripped apart) and the Haze worked well in both cases. Now I just stick the flowers in a pill bottle and go to work with the scissors. I got a really cheap plastic grinder with my Haze. Should I bother getting a nice one or just stick with the pill bottle and scissors?

My original one came with a metal grinder which works like a champ. When I got my Dad's Haze, the promotion was over for the metal grinder so I purchased it separately here :
http://www.vaporseller.com/secret-vape-premium-metal-grinder.html

It is little more than what I would spend and i was upset with the fact that I missed on the promo back then (which looks like they started again) but it was working great so I bought it. It has sharp teeth instead of flat ones like most other grinders I had, so you can get any consistency you like. All the way to pollen size or more course.

Got a 5 can case from @Ratchett . I'm using 4 slots for cans. I'm using the 5th to hold 2 screens; It's a bit of a tight fit for the screens but it works. A much better solution than the battery case I was using before.

Awesome! I noticed the screens were a tight fit in the slots, but I really wanted them tight for the cans so they didn't bounce around and make a lot of noise in your pocket. Figured it was a good trade off in the long run

PROVEN HAZE BATTERY ALTERNATIVES?

New guy to FC here. Decided to try vaping.

Looks like a lot of friendly discussion regarding the Haze. The excellent info you all have kindly provided is appreciated and led to my purchase:

My Haze purchase: Pulled the trigger on a black Haze v2.5 last night just before the Massdrop deal went off. Not sure how that's gonna go... has anyone received a Haze thru Massdrop before? Est ship date for this "drop" is 5-13 - $168 shipped. Warranty is in question at that price as Massdrop is NOT listed as an approved seller by Haze. Comments in MD suggest the upgrade registration/buy in feature has supposedly been ok'd by someone at Haze for future upgrades and for paying the old unit forward. So it's a mixed bag, but that's about the only way I could get the Haze into the budget anytime soon.

For similar cost oriented reasons, I'm looking at cheap alternatives for extra batteries/chargers.

I live in a cave off a goat trail so extra battery power can help me realize my goal of becoming a proper vape fiend. :freak: Seriously, though, power surges and sags destroy wall warts and chargers here with great regularity. I can plug the Haze charger into a UPS to protect it from the plucky antics of the "electric co-op" :cuss:

Please share your experience?: ** I'd sure be thankful if anyone who has tried different batteries in the Haze might be so kind as to help with some battery related questions.

I've read the best of thread and this, the main Haze thread. I learned there/here that Fenix 3400mah 18650 may be correct length and a solid performer... or of course there are the Haze XL batts, but that's what leads to questions:

(The Haze XL batteries [3400mah] aren't THAT expensive, but it appears I can (allegedly/reportedly) get 4 batteries 6000 mah (protected no less) for 1/3 that price. Some 2 packs include a wall charger - also scary low buck)

I've had mixed success with rechargeable (Chinese) batteries from eBay, so I'm skeptical.

Looks like there's all kinds of advertising hype in fleabay with some sellers claiming up to 6000mah for a protected 18650. That seems crazy high to me with current tech.

So the questions mainly: Will any PROTECTED 18650 battery be the correct length to fit the Haze? Or will some of them still be too short? Can anyone provide the overall length of the Haze OEM battery? (if you do this, please don't throw a metallic caliper on it. dead short hazard! :uhoh:)

Which brings me to the possibility of adding a :2c: 2 cent fuse pcb to the end of a non-protected battery. Any joy there? Well, since a 2 cent fuse costs 8 bucks and up (no inflation??:lmao:), I guess this option probably isn't there unless someone knows where the 2CF can be bought cheap.

Some Haze info confuses me; do the Haze batteries really have some kind of proprietary regulation built into the battery itself or is it a generic pcb fuse (self-resetting electronic circuit breaker) like on most protected 18650 batteries?

Next, some few 18650 ads list "high current draw" capability in the description but it appears most don't. Is this a big deal with 18650's or is it simply more marketing? I've been unable to find confirmed info about what the max current draw of the Haze might be.

Are there some low cost and proven (for fit and performance) 18650's anyone can recommend that will fit the Haze and not damage it?

Should I be buying a wall charger with any that brag of super high mah like 6000?

Been around so I figure 4 of the 18650 batteries, protected, 6000mah for 12 bucks shipped is probably bs. :mental: Not sure if "...that much sugar can fit in that particular sack..." :hmm:

Long first post; mea culpa.

Thanks!

Micke

I don't really know much about the batteries and all that but I would say why risk it to save a few $? like you said, they aren't all that expensive and it comes with 2, so get an extra set and you're fine... if you need more than 4 batteries to where you can't keep at least 1 charged at all times you are a vape fiend and away from civilization for a long time :p

Yes I would just go with the Haze batteries. You could possibly get away with something else but why risk a pretty sizable purchase to save a few bucks?

Welcome @Micke and congrats on your purchase!

Thanks for your input and the welcome. I appreciate it.

There were one or a few people reliably using Fenix 3400mah batteries or some other brand in their Haze vapes... any of you reading this? Count Vapula?

Input appreciated if possible.

Please don't risk these kind of batteries, I'm guessing they are ones that have the word 'fire' somewhere in the name, or similar, i have tested 18650's claiming 5000mAh that metered out at anywhere from 1500 down! IMO anything claiming over 4000 i would have doubts about.

Even more important i have had batteries claiming to be protected, but when unwrapped the PCB was not even connected up! Just a blank.

If you have to go aftermarket stick with well known brands like nitecore or fenix and buy from somewhere you trust, otherwise who knows what you will actually get, could even be an old laptop cell at end of life rewrapped, i have had some with solder on the + & - ends :hmm: now would a new battery have solder here?

My haze batteries are 69mm including the button top, while haze i think say they have a custom PCB, IME/IMO it acts the same as many others, now by custom they could just mean its one they had built for them. (Just a FYI on PCB there is a top and bottom section connected down the side of the battery)

Now chargers there are a lot but it depends what your looking for, the nitecore's are good but basically the same as the Haze charger, something like the xtar vp2/4 or luc v2/4 are also rated highly and have charge speed options upto 2A, which the Haze batteries should be more than capable of using but not the case if you get unknowingly a fake/bad battery.

At the end of the day the choice is yours, but one way to look at it is, is it worth saving a few £/$ at the risk of possibly getting something fake/bad quality that could go wrong/boom, especially when its in something that gives so much joy and you hold close to your face.

Unless you already have some good quality 18650's from another device (torch,laser,e-cig) i would stick with the OEM's for peace of mind (the XL's work great:tup:), also for everything haze offers (upgrade scheme and 10 year warranty to name just a couple:clap:) i don't mind spending a small amount extra to support haze in return, and over the life of the battery it is a small amount.

And welcome to the club:cheers: let us know how you get on, or should i say how much you love it:D

UnshavenFish,

Thank you very much for the detailed and informative post!

Now that you mention it, having the wire going from the top to bottom pcb, this may be more than a circuit breaker.

For example, the Fenix brand says that it is overcharge/discharge protected. Looks like Fenix is more expensive than Haze XL for a 3400 so I think I'll take the advice from all 3 who replied and stay with Haze XL batteries.

Micke, welcome to FC.

I'm a bit of a flashaholic and have done lots of research on led flashlights and the Lithium Ion batteries that power them. The current highest mAh rating of any 18650 is 3400 mAh. Anything above that is falsely advertised and should be avoided at all costs. It's most likely from some old laptop battery pack that has been harvested and the cells re wrapped with a protection pcb that may or may not even work. They are typically only 1500 mAh which isn't even close to their "super power" claims. "You get what you pay for" comes to mind.

The standard 18650 is an unprotected cell at 18 mm diameter and 65 mm in length. The 0 refers to the shape of the cell. Protected 18650s are sometimes referred to as 18700 but most people just call them protected 18650s. They are usually 69 to 70 mm long. There may be some cells that won't fit comfortably or at all, in the Haze.

I tried my Fenix cells because they match up to the length of the Haze battery, I already own them and I know they are a quality brand. They are what I would consider a safe bet. Fenix, Nitecore, Olight, Xtar, Eagletac, Orbtronic, Zebralight, SoShine, Keeppower and Klarus batteries would be some of the few that I trust but only if I already had them on hand or could find them at a lower price than the Haze batteries. Might as well stick with the Haze batteries if purchasing price is lower, unless you want to use them in other devices that accept 18650 batteries. The Haze batteries are just barely skinny enough to fit into my Fenix flashlight but won't fit into my Klarus flashlight.

I believe you could use unprotected 18650 batteries in the Haze but you would have to modify the battery. You could glue a 4 mm length magnet or put a dab of solder onto the positive terminal. This would bring the battery to the proper length. It does seem like a bit of trouble and would require the skills, tools and material. I know quality(made in Japan not China) Panasonic 18650 3400 mAh unprotected batteries can be had for about $10 each. Considering you can purchase the Haze XL batteries for about $15 each, it hardly seems worth the trouble if only using them in your Haze.

I'm thinking that the Haze isn't a high current draw device. I believe that is something that draws over 3 amps. Some high power flashlights can really suck down the juice.
