Easy ABV Coconut Oil Recipe(Crockpot)

To me, the images look like the oil in various stages of cooling down. Mine looks very similar: mine is a darker, olive green: I've filtered through an AeroPress. You mention mold: is it fuzzy green? Fuzzy is bad. There should be no fuzzy business about it. If it is just varying colors: OK. I keep mine in a pint Mason jar in the fridge.

First the flavor, then the buZzz settles in....
The original recipe from this thread mentions abv/fresh herb. I would guess that the "fresh herb" would have to be decarb first. Say for instance I am mixing abv with fresh herb to make the coconut oil more potent. Would I have to decarb the "fresh herb" first. Or can I just throw it in the mix.

Yes, I'd decarb fresh herb in the oven first - the water bath won't get hot enough to activate the material.
I just strained a batch a little while ago myself, and I'm now waiting for it to set :science:

Whats your method to decarb and how many degrees? I know there are tables across the net, but what works for you?

From one to 10, how potent is it by the table spoon? I mean how many tablespoons will get you where? This is interesting.

This batch was from ABV so no need to decarb - but when using fresh material I do 1 hour in an oven at 110ºC using an oven thermometer for accuracy. Works well for me,

Dosage really depends on tolerance and strength of material used. Half a tablespoon will give me a mild effect, one tablespoon will be about equivalent to a regular edible, and two tablespoons will put me in orbit. Doing this with full unvaped buds yields a much stronger and less sedative infusion.

Hello guys :)

Reasonably new to vaping to still saving up my ABV to a decent level for my first ever edibles :D

Think I will go with the coconut oil, mason jar in a crock pot with water approach, seems nice and easy to me.

Just a few questions....

Am I to leave the mason jar sealed tight whilst sitting in the crock pot, apart from when stirring?

I am going to buy a temperature probe to monitor temps, what temp should I aim to keep my water at?

I use a 4 piece metal grinder which has a mesh on the bottom level to collect what I think people outside the UK called kief? Me and my friends just call it crystals :D

Anyway I have near on a gram of this, and was debating using some for my coconut oil.

Seeing as the kief has never been heated does this need to be decarbed? This is something I have only just heard of, but read the very interesting article posted here on marijuana growers hq.

Last point, is using lecithin necessary? Is this soy lecithin people are referring to? What exactly is this, where do I buy it, a supermarket or health shop? And in what form?

Thank you very much in advance :)

hello OP, glad to see you have posted this recipe here, yours had a bit extra directions and i have learnt something new. I have a question, when I have my crock pot on low, with everything in the pot, there are bubbles coming from it. you mentioned that it shouldn't boil, do you get these bubbles? should I get a new crock pot? this was brand new, i bought it especially :)

You can seal the jar tight, and then SHAKE IT periodically... no need to open & stir.

Water should be simmering... just under a boil. So, close to 100C, but no need to keep the boil on. I use the crockpot on Low for this. Start with boiling water and just keep it hot.

If you will cook or bake with your oil, no decarb should be needed. If you are eating it as is, then yes, your crystals would not be activated. ABV is pre-decarbed, for the most part, so additional heating wouldn't be required.

I never use lecithin. Don't seem to be lacking effects. It's supposed to make the oil stay evenly mixed, and make it more bio-available. If you use it, health food store, Sunflower Lecithin granules or liquid would be my preference.

Have fun!

Hey all! Thanks for all of the great info in this thread.

Fiancee and I have about 2 ounces of ABV. Pretty dark-brown but not that bad. Our favorite grocery store has an extensive health/natural/organic foods section and so we were able to get a big ol' jar of organic EVCO.

We're going to try a small batch first to test potency and go from there. Probably going to try 0.5c oil and 0.5oz ABV.

I've never done canning before so I'm not familiar with the tolerance of the mason jars and I'd like to leave it on to reduce smell... there's no chance of it bursting or anything? Should I leave the lid of the crockpot on or off?

Thanks! And I look forward to sharing my results.

I just losen the lid every few hours to release any built up pressure, and give the jar a good shake. Crock pot on low, lid off.

Make sure your jar is sitting on something in the pan... even a folded cloth will work. a very flat knife, or a spoon handle. I use an iron trivet, myself. A jar flat on the pan bottom can burst.

If the jar will fit under the crockpot lid, leave it on! improves efficiency.

WOO! So the fiancee and I started the process last night. 0.5oz ABV, 0.5c EVCO in a small mason jar. Did the dishcloth as you suggested @Enchantre. Lid on, mason jar just slightly cracked to avoid big-badda-booms. It ended up going for about 12 hours.

This morning we found the jar slightly tipped over. It doesn't look like any water got into the jar (probably because it was simmering inside) but a little oil got out into the water. Not a lot, though. The loss was pretty negligible. I blame the tilt on the mason jar being so small and not weighing very much. The cloth may have been folded one too many times as well (it's a medium crock pot, not a ton of room). As you can see there are only a few oil slick splotches floating on the surface.
8EV27ro.jpg

I've read a lot about people saying it smells and tastes bad. To me, it smells EXACTLY like Girl Scout Caramel Delights (or Samoas, depending on your location) and the taste of oil straight up is nice... almost like dark roast coconut-flavored coffee (or, to anybody who has ever homebrewed, tastes like chocolate malt with coconut). But then again I'm a big fan of bold, roasty, bitter flavors: favorite coffee is dark roast served black, favorite chocolate is at least 60% cacao dark chocolate, and favorite beer is a face-meltingly hoppy IPA.

E3DZhUg.jpg

I strained that sucker through that fine mesh strainer you see in the background. It worked really really well. There are still some tiny fine particulates in the oil but that's no biggie. I'd rather have those in there than have cheese-cloth soak up any goodness.

The image below shows the color... however the camera is a dirty liar. The color is actually a very nice dark olive green, not the burnt umber the image shows.

mlsIEIq.jpg

It seems like the majority of the 0.5c oil was conserved. I spent quite a bit of time pressing the ABV through the strainer to make sure I got as much out as I could.

Also, I initially caught the filtered oil in a coffee cup so I could test the strength with whatever was still clinging to the side of the cup. I let everything settle as I brewed a pot of coffee. This seems like a decent amount for a potency test. Again, the color is misleading.

I will report my findings as well as an image of the solidified oil. Hopefully that will let the real color come through.

Yeeeaaaah so I figure that tiny amount in my coffee was about 0.5tsp, maybe even less. An hour later I was gooood. Not melting into the couch but nice and relaxed. I can't wait until we cook or bake something tonight with a decent dosage.

And I'll be sure to keep that jar nice and tight next time. What can I say, I'm a worrier :)

Here's an incredibly blurry photo of the finished product. I think the blurriness is actually appropriate, considering how strong it is. Fiancee and I spread some on some toast and wow. This came out a lot stronger than I thought it would. It'a almost entirely body so we vaped a bit as well. Last night was fun ^_^

I feel like a broken record, but it's much much greener than that IRL.

Also, this might be a reeeaaaaally weird question but..... can you dab cannacoco? It's pretty dang hard so maybe. Then again I might be crazy and thoroughly medicated

Hey now,
Back in March, for 1st last batch, I simmered 3oz ABV for 72hours. Deep olive green oil was the result. Using for lip balm, dry hands, achy muscles, salads and cooking.
Moving forward, I've decided to grade my ABV. I use the Solo or the Nano. My Solo sessions are typically temp 4-5 or 5-6 and Nano sessions are 5 to 5 1/2 or 5 1/2 to 6, depending required desired effect. I would guess the lower temp ABV still has 20% medicine. As soon as I have a 14g of each I will make another 4 batches and compare.
Now it's time for an ABV coco-canna omelette and a double stem infused black coffee....
Enjoy your Sunday FC

This is my third coco-ABV adventure. I had 3 oz of ABV and about 4 oz left of my coco "Mother" which I added to new.

I have it all in a Mason jar in a crock pot for a day of two.

Hooooooly crap. That's a great idea, that stuff is going to be insanely strong! But it raises questions for me on the saturation levels of THC and CBD in fat. I'm assuming there has to be a point where you can't fit anymore active ingredients in suspension.

I have no idea, but that sure makes sense. Vamos a ver. We shall see.

Edit: Beating my fat.

Reducing reclaim suspended in Everclear to add to coco-oil.

After much saving tomorrow will be the day I try my first batch. Just wondering what kind of coconut oil I should get?

Virgin, extra virgin, organic, refined? So many kinds lol.

Also how long do people tend to leave the Mason jar in the slow cooker? I've seen a fairly big range on here.

Thanks :)

My favorite brands are "Dr Bronner's Fresh Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil" and "Nutiva Organic Superfood Virgin Coconut Oil." But other brands are probably good too.

Are you making with fresh green bud or ABV? For fresh green bud, lately I have been doing 12 hours in the slow cooker, freeze overnight, and then another 12 hours. But lately I have not been getting good results, because I don't think the inside of the jar gets anywhere near the optimum 250 degrees. For ABV instead of green bud, I would not bother using the slow cooker at all, I would just grind it up and add the ABV to the recipe.

Hope that helps, good luck! :)
