Kidney Disease and Cannabis

I was just diagnosed with kidney disease, and was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation, or know someone who was or still is?

I have to be careful what I put into my body, medications, food, etc. Alcohol is really bad for me now too, so I can't have tincture anymore, unless it were a glycerin tincture.

I can't discuss this with my GP, and was wondering if vaporizing cannabis could be harmful to me. I need cannabis now more than ever because I can't take any OTC pain meds at all anymore.

Hi i too suffer from kidney disease my entire life. I have been in such pain at times the Er has had to shoot crap much stronger than straight smack into my veins, For me personally such horrid pain was normally from excessive alcohol consumption. I find natural solutions to work VERY well for me. The drugs they prescribe are all bad, ANYTHING that's not natural is NOT supposed to be processed through the human body. I was once a skeptic of this as just a regular recreational user only, But i failed to factor in hey this isn't medical grade don't even know if it's indica sativa or what, But when you figure proper vaporization temps strains and what not you can really dial it in.

I forgot to note i don't just have kidney disease. I also have a severe case of adult adhd and social anxiety, So what i need can change quite a bit, And i'm pretty sure i have whatever kind of arthritus or however you spell it that younger people get.

@Vapor Loop

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you on dialysis? I have not reached that point yet, and I hope I don't. My eGFR and creatinine levels just won't get better, though. :(

I am on a cocktail of RX drugs from my GP. I imagine if my kidneys continue to get worse, she will refer me out to a Nephrologist.

I'm pretty sure my cannabis usage is not affecting my kidneys, but I know the RX drugs are not good. My GP already told me a long time ago that I can't take any OTC pain meds (plus a lot of other OTC drugs), and put me on a low protein diet. Also cut out a lot of foods completely too. We are kinda following the renal failure diet, just not as extreme yet. I'm pretty much not allowed to put anything in my body unless my GP approves it.

I recently had a brain MRI, and could not get the dye for the test.

No i'm not it's just my right kidney the other get's overworked to make up for the bad one tho. I honestly forgot what % the bad was functioning last time i had testing done, I'm supposed to go every year but have not for a while. I know it's dropped below %25 at times.

I highly doubt cannabis would effect kidney function in a bad way as well, You may wan't to consider a natural medicine Dr for the long run tho, Any of the Rx crap i had ever been prescribed always caused other problems, It's really gotten ridiculous the side effects they note on some of these commercials, This may cause constipation, diarrhea, feeling extra alive, death, suicidal thoughts, suicide, homicide, Yeah i'm going a little further than what they really say but not that far tho.

7 Natural Home Remedies for Kidney Infection
timthumb.php

How important the kidneys are? You can know well after reading this description: All the blood travels through the kidneys, every 30 minutes, each and every day, and the waste is cleared from the bloodstream then removed from the body as urine. Plus, the kidneys help to regulate the acid-alkaline levels, release hormones regulate blood pressure, distribute vital minerals throughout the body. Kidney infection is a specific type of urinary tract infection, it begins in the urethra or the bladder and will travel up into the kidneys.

The common symptoms of a kidney infection:

-Abdominal pain
-Back pain
-Fever
-Fatigue
-Redness on the skin
-Burning sensation or pain when urinating
-Frequent urination
-Blood in the urine
-Persistent urge to urinate

The following are home remedies for kidney infections:

1. Herbal Teas
Anything herbal is good for your health, drinking herbal teas is an effective way to treat many infections, including kidney problems. Drink any of the following teas twice a day may help:
  • Green tea
  • Parsley root
  • Blueberry tea
  • Corn silk tea
  • Dandelion tea
  • Goldenrod tea
  • Gravel root tea
  • Stinging nettle tea
2. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is effective against removing toxins out of the body, it soothes urinary burning and helps to control the pain associated with the kidney infection. Drink it as a juice twice a day is a safe and effective remedy for kidney effects.

3. Baking Soda
Baking soda is a popular product that can be found in almost every home. Besides, it’s a natural and cheap remedy for kidney infection, this is because baking soda is effective in replenishing the bicarbonate levels in the kidney. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of 8 ounces of water and drink it daily.

4. Parsley Juice
Parsley is rich in a variety of nutrients, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, copper, sodium and thiamin. It’s also a natural cleanser too, which helps to clear up the toxins and harmful substances from the kidney. The ideal method to take parsley as a cure for kidney infection: take some parsley leaves and boil them along with water, strain it and drink it after cooling off.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar with Honey
Both apple cider vinegar and honey work great for kidney infections. Apple cider vinegar helps to detox blood stream, and honey also has purifying and anti-bacterial properties. Combine them together, they benefit you more than when used separately. Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of honey in an 8 ounce glass of water, drink this mixture once a day.

6. Garlic
Garlic alleviates the symptoms of renal infection by forcing the kidneys to pass more salt in the urine , making it as a natural remedy to improve kidney functions.

7. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is beneficial against the renal infections as it raises the acidic levels in the kidney, making it impossible for bacteria to grow. It’s effective to ease the painful and uncomfortable feeling caused by the kidney infections. It’s recommended to consume an orange or any other citrus fruit daily for favorable results.

Awesome, thank you!!! I will try at least one today, the vitamin C. :D  I'm already taking cranberry capsules too.

It's almost like you knew I needed something else! I have been on antibiotics since April 6th for a UTI! It probably traveled up into my bladder and/or kidneys. I did one 7 day course of Macrodantin, nothing. Two days later I started another 7 day course of Macrodantin. Again, nothing. Then Friday I started a round of Cipro, and I'm still taking it. :disgust: I'm afraid I'm building up a resistance to antibiotics. :(

I am very sorry to hear about your diagnosis .
I have no idea if this will help but .
I have kidney disease in my family specifically poly-cystic kidney .
My father had it and my brother currently has is . I have been spared at this point thankfully ( although that makes me a kidney farm for my brother which is not a problem for me )
My brother has been a cannabis user for many years . All his doctors are aware and no one has said its a problem .
I would be happy to share any info I have or can get if I can help just pm me .

I'm going to go Google poly-cystic in just a bit.
It's good to know that your family members haven't had any problems. I had a feeling cannabis would be benign when it came to the kidneys.
Did you know that if I end up needing a transplant, and test positive for cannabis, I would be put at the bottom of list. I guess if you use cannabis, they want you to die because doing that would be a death sentence. I would have to quit, and pray it would be out of my system in time.
My GP has me taking Cipro right now. After I finish it, I'll be back at Quest for more blood and urine tests. Then she's sending me over to the hospital for an ultrasound on both of my kidneys.

Vicki, all these antibiotics you are taking have completely wiped out your good bacteria which are essential for getting the vital nutrients you need into your body, they even make some vitamins. I would recommend a good probiotic like Ultra Blend or Natural Factors. Live yogurt alone will not be enough for this task.

Not only have I been taking all the Macrodantin & Cipro, I take Doxycycline EVERYDAY when I'm not on these other antibiotics. I thought I would have had a yeast infection by now, but nothing. Not that I'm sorry about that. I've been eating yogurt. Maybe it is helping some. Where do you get Ultra Blend or Natural Factors?

I can't speak to all alcohol tinctures, but in my experience you can watch the alcohol boil out after you put 10 drops into hot coffee.

Check out the GC thread called Another Tincture Thread.... try it you'll like it. You can find it under Incredible Edible Herb.

My kidneys have become worse, and as a result, I'm extremely tired, and wasting away. Right now, I don't have any medicine to vape, so I can't stimulate my appetite. I'm so tired, I sleep a lot too.

I just wanted you guys to know that I'm probably not going to be on as much as I used to be. Hopefully that will change in the future. If you need to get a hold of me, please send me a private message here, or tag me in a thread to get my attention.
