WASHINGTON — The Obama administration’s top drug enforcement official will step down next month, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced on Tuesday, after her agency was tarnished by a scandal over sex parties with prostitutes and she broke with President Obama on drug policy.

Michele M. Leonhart, the administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration, told Mr. Holder that she intended to retire, ending a 35-year tenure at the agency. In a statement, he called her a “trailblazer for equality” and a “good friend,” but in recent years, she had faced accusations of mismanagement.

I wouldn't hold my breath but maybe Obama will nominate a DEA leader with an openminded, progressive attitude. I don't know if you can even say DEA & openminded/progressive in the same sentence. But if not now, when?

Appointed heads come and go but the DEA polices, funding and operations are ongoing. The DEA will continue to be what it always has been, the feds attempt to put and maintain some level of controls on the drug trade. This last dance is more about parties, hookers and getting caught then it is about new enlightened awareness.

Glad to see the back of her. She was impervious to evidence, a big fat repeater of disproved drug war slogans.
