then again i read, that the whole fugu thing is nothing more than a myth nowadays. :)
just to nurture the romantic macho idea of looking death into the eyes and escape snatching some tasty sushi en route as a bonus.

Depends on the table, doesn't it? I would fit in perfectly at a Sushi bar serving Puffer Fish, right? Although I guess Fugu is technically Sashimi:

If you read the link above you'll see that's not really true. Less than in the past, but hardly a myth. Dozens of incidents in Tokyo alone where it's very very strictly controlled (like 3 years training)? Many in other areas fall victim to contaminated goods in the black market (sound familiar?) Same as buying tested herb from a legit dealer rather than the guy on the corner?

Plenty of death to go around world wide. Macho perhaps, some might say stupid. An easy risk to respect and avoid for me. I recommend passing.

not saying, it wasn't dangerous always. just that it's not that dangerous anymore today, with the appearance of the farmed poisonfree fugu. the article i read refered to this piece from the new york times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/world/asia/04fugu.html?_r=0 .
as for buying from a legit dealer, as long as we don't have a controled market we'll have to rely on the ethics of the dealer and he gets his stuff somewhere, and this somewhere may not always be a safe source. my envy goes to the countries and states with favorable laws regarding cultivation and trade of weed at least for personal use.

Hey @OF, check out @momofthegoons recent video post under "Good videos …"
Who'd want to eat a fish that can do that???

You obviously don't get the whole raw sushi thing..... I was in Tokyo years ago and went to the fish market to watch the families buy 'the fist' from a floor load of frozen tuna. To you and I, all the same. One might sell for a few hundred dollars, the next many thousands. Very traditional. The 'old man' decides he wants that exact fish. Deep in the culture, as I guess is everything?

Anyway, a popular 'joke' there is conjecture on who was the first man brave enough to try raw fish....... Over enough Sake the vote tends to the most hungry fisherman aboard.
