Looking for the best portable vape for my use and budget

Hi everyone,

First of all i apologize for my bad english...

I'm looking for a portable vaporizer mainly for use it with dry herb or kief but also with concentrates.

below what i'm looking for :

- Best taste
- healthy (zero combustion)
- convection
- "pen" or "pipe" type
- I would initially buy the ThermoVape Cera(due to his pure taste and his versatility) but as the company has definitely closed I will not put $ 500 in a product without warranty or after sales service. So my budget is between 400$ and 500$. If it's better i can buy one for dry herb and kief and an other one for concentrates if the twice don't exceed 500$

Below some models that I like :

- Persei 8 oil (with hammer top and loose leaf chamber)
- Pax 2
- Dr. Dabber Ghost (but if i understand it's just for concentrates)
- Crafty (dont like the design...)

Use a lighter is not an issue for me so i'm really interested by the Lotus vaporizer but i told myself (perhaps wrongly) that it may be less healthy than others due to use a lighter ... If not, i really like this modele!

Please help me to choose the best one for me...

The lotus definitely checks a lot of your boxes. It's a good portable with desktop power. There was some buzz about a new high temperature lotus cap being released for use with concentrates, but IDK when that is being released. So you could easily get a lotus kit, and then something separate for concentrate. If you decide on the lotus they're doing a 4/20 sale right now. I would recommend getting the kit with both the pipe and the water pipe adapter, because at some point you are going to want to hook this thing up to a bubbler/bong, which is where it really shines!

Thanks JimmyCricket for your reply. What's about the Vapor quality and quantity with the Lotus if I compare it to the best of the genre such as the Crafty?

The Haze is a solid choice for herb and concentrates.
What's about the Vapor quality
How do you define 'vapor quality'? It's a vague term and is often used to even signify whether a particular model can produce big clouds of vapor or not. If a small pocket portable can't cloud the room it has poor vapor quality? As for taste being a quality component, that's often a reflection of how much you load, when you hit it, and what temp you use. For example I found that the iolite has excellent taste on the 1st hit or two, about 90 seconds after turning the vape on, while it tastes right nasty toward the end, thanks to ABV and a short vapor path. OTOH my EVO seems to even out the taste -not great or bad- due to water filtration.
best of the genre such as the Crafty
Best because it costs more? Don't get hung up on paying more equaling a better vapor experience, or that any vape maker has high tech methods for producing a better quality vapor.

So my budget is between 400$ and 500$.
You really don't have to pay that much to get top quality.

Hi Max

When i said "vapor quality" i'm talking about taste and purity and not just for the first hit. I'm not looking for huge clouds but still need to see some "smoke" out of my mouth...

About the Crafty i'm not saying that is one of the best due to his price but it seems to be so when i read differents reviews...

About my budget, it is my maximum budget but if some product better for less budget it would be great!

So max for you too the Lotus seems to be a good choice?

As far as vapor quality goes, I have never used a crafty so I cannot compare it to that, but the Lotus is up there in vapor quality compared to other portables due to it being torch powered/convection instead of battery powered/conduction. With the lotus once you get the hang of the torch you can either pull giant dense lung busting clouds, or light super flavorful hits. Just saying as far as portables go, there is only a few options for convection. So if you are set on a portable that is something to consider

Ok JimmyCricket, thanks for your advices. So I really think starting with the Lotus. On the one hand I find it very beautiful and also the fact of using a lighter will help me to find my habit of smoking ...

So if i understand the Lotus can't (for the moment) be used with concentrates...?

No problem! The lotus is a good place to start, it might take a little to get the hang of it, but once you get it you'll probably be more satisfied than with a weaker portable. Plus coming from smoking, you will definitely feel and see these hits.

I think it can be, but its just not recommended because of the temperatures it would need to reach consistently would put a strain on the heat plate and cause possible cracks. Check out the lotus thread for more on that

Hey Mr Me2

Indeed the firefly seems to be a very good vape, but already its shape does not please me at all, it's big enough and finally it is only for grass and kief and at this price I would not have enough to take a vape for concentrated with it...

And for dry herb or kief i really like the Lotus, wich could be fit with a water pipe...

Just chiming in to suggest the Hammer. Its ideal for whatever you want to use it with.

The Firewood can also do concentrates if you prefer electric convection.

FYI - Firefly recently added an add-on for concentrates. Initially I was a little put off by its size and weight, but the build quality is great. And it seems unanimous - everybody thinks its taste is the best. I think Rachett made a bubbler attachment that works with the ff. But you can reach out to him and confirm...

Also the V2 pro series 7 is a 3 in one. It's brand new, so there aren't a lot of reviews (and I haven't tried it).

What? Concentrates for the Firefly? I needs to try that!

Anyways: If flame is not an issue, then you should check out the Swiss made Vapman. It does herb very well, and if you buy their concentrates screens you'll be able to do hash, oil, kief... all types of concentrates.

Also, it's very small, and because you heat before you draw it's easy to be stealth with it.

I read about the ff concentrates addition, but don't remember where. Their website does mention it, but I couldn't find any details. Maybe you'll have better luck...

Firefly Concentrate Pads

We are excited to introduce a brand new way to experience the Firefly with the release of our concentrate pads. Now you can enjoy the purest vapor from plant material AND concentrates.

Why use Firefly for your concentrates?

For the same reason you use Firefly for plant material - Firefly’s convection technology captures the entire range of active ingredients and flavors. E-cigarettes and vape pens have emerged as the popular way to vape oils and other concentrated materials, but these conduction devices burn and denature the ingredients by exposing the material to the direct heat source. With Firefly’s convection technology, hot air heats the material as you inhale, creating vapor at a range of temperatures between 0° and 400°F.

Taste the Terpenoids!

Concentrates are a distillation of active ingredients from plants, sometimes mixed with glycerin or propylene glycol. Each ingredient has a magical activation temperature between 0° and 400°F, so vaping at a set temperature skips some of the good stuff, particularly terpenoids, which activate at lower temperatures. Love the smell of pine, ginger, or eucalyptus? You can thank their terpenoids! The lesser-known chemicals found in all plants, terpenoids are responsible for plant aroma and flavor, and used for herbal remedies. Firefly vapor is full of those tasty terpenoids which is just one more reason why Firefly vapor is so delicious!

Our stainless steel concentrate pads have passed FDA food safe cleaning and testing procedures, just like every material in the Firefly vapor path. Buy your concentrate pads here.

And at 400F I bet it would be pretty great flavor. I like these type of pads in my T-Vape and other vapes.

I have tried and loved most of the above except the Hammer which should hit similar to the Lotus but with longer heating times. After selling my Crafty lately I have been enjoying the Vapman for herb and concentrates and I have to say I would choose it over any of the vapes in my sig every single time. If you want one vape, this is it. It's stealthier than the Lotus (my former golden standard), hits a little harder, no stirring required, less maintenance, more durable, more relaxed ritual, less draw resistance, better for groups... And this is coming from a Lotus fanboy!!! :p And Crafty for me gives the nicest, biggest, more consistent hits I have ever gotten from a vape... But that's not the most important thing in my book after a few years of vaping. Vapman gives smaller clouds but still hits harder.

The Firefly looks pretty good but a stay on my choice because i really don't like the design... And the Lotus seems to have a really great taste too. And for the Dr Dabber, it seems to be one of the best for concentrates and a really like the laybacke recycler wich can be fit one it.

So! The Firefly, Hammer, Vapman or airizer looks pretty goods but if the dr dabber and the lotus are that level I'll go over those of. If there is some known issue with these tow vape then I would change my choice...

Indeed it is true that the Vapman pleases me ... It'll be an economical all in one choice as well. I reflect about it.

Hi vapebuddy13,

I have looked into it but the design is ugly and the principle of being able to smoke grass and concentrates at the same time does not interest me at all...

natural farmer : what is the differences between the Lotus V1 and V2?

What about the Arizer Air. It looks like a large ecig. It's around $200 and has good flavor. You can sandwich your concentrates in your herb or use cotton. It can be charged and used at the same time.

It came out last November 2014 and I've seen very few faulty units. A well made vaporizer that can be hooked up to water tools quite easily. There are several different stems that you can attach too.

It works well for the recreational or the medical user for that on the go vaporizing experience. If you are looking for a discreet portable the Air will get the job done.
