You go Vickie! But I find it hard to imagine 'upside down' or 'right side up'.

I prefer the nomenclature 'holes side down' or 'open side up'. :)

I am now preferring a layer of herb, then one spacer 'holes side down'. Works better than the oil tanks for sure.

Now, back to the lab for more experiments!

I know it's only been 1/2 a day, but I think I have a preferred way to use the glass spacers, so far. One spacer, holes side up, with one glass spacer on top of that, holes side down. :)

I will continue the experimentation all weekend. :D

For those who have chosen spacer top with holes down ,by adding a cotton dab inside

spacer,
the glass filter stem maintenance intervals will be considerably less

EDIT : to release as much stored heat as possible between sessions ,opening oven door @

30 deg will permit energy to dissapate easier with less pre-cooling conduction :2c:

Seems like the best method I've found so far is the following:

1) *LOOSELY* fill the oven full with herbs (maybe slightly less than full)
2) Insert spacer, right side up (holes on bottom of spacer)

This method produces the best vapor density of any method I've found so far. Although draw restriction is noticeably increased

@Ratchett, I'm using the exact same method in order to produce the best vapor density also.

I also tried a packed load and it only produced wispy clouds.

I am very anxious to get my hands on some vacuum/heat purged qwiso.
I will flatten out a little piece, place it in a small piece of degummed hemp fiber and place that in the middle of both spacers.
I will report back as soon I experiment with it.

I just wanted to say I tried getting both glass spacers out of my Ascent this morning, and had no problems at all. I do have a special tool I've been using, though. My bottom spacer does not sit flat on the bottom. It's crooked. Anyone else have this happen? Here is what I have been using to get the spacers out: (the pick, not cat claws. )

Your spacer won't sit flat because of the little area that's provided for the glass oil jar. There's a bit of a little bump on the bottom of the oven.

Lovin the spacer. Just using the one with the flat side on top of herb at the bottom of the oven. I use a qtip while the oven is warm to wipe away any oil residue. I cleaned off my spacer with ISO, don't want any sticking problems, regular maintenance is required.;)

I've started playing with the spacers finally. I'm thinking it's kind of a clever design in that it's increased hugely the configurations you can load in. On spacer or two, each with 'open end up/down' potential, gives lots of room for customizing.

Thus far I'm leaning to one 'flat side up' in the bottom. It seems to best reduce the volume of the load without impacting the performance more than necessary. Loading inside the spacer is also interesting but it seems to add a lot of time needed for recovery between hits?

It's definitely much easier to use in the field than the flowers are, although I think they have the advantage when easy reloads aren't a factor. In that vein I haven't tried adding a couple flowers as well......yet.

BTW, my current removal technique (like you need another tip here....) is to 'thread' a pointed round tooth pick in for a handle. That is I picked one out with a lopsided tip and tried different rotations until I find the one it goes in deepest, then holding it in I rotate it until it bind and pull the insert out by the handle. Once it took some gentle 'wiggling' to free the spacer, but after that it came right out like a little glass lolly pop.

I was wondering how you guys carry your ascent around, what kind of case do you use. is it smell proof, homemade or storebought?

Store-bought hard case, although I do have a Ryot case also (this one being smell-proof) I prefer the hard case as I can carry the GonG in it.

If interested, I posted my EDC here. It has since been cleaned up a bit (like better containers) but still basically the same.

Mine came with a soft velour bag with a drawstring. That protects the Ascent in my pocket or briefcase.

My case is pretty much the same as the one Nigel listed, a semi hard shell simple black case that's a good close fit for the ascent with room for a little herb, a 3 piece tool and not much else. Made by Kroo, it sells on Amazon for 14.99 US with free shipping. Doing a search for Ascent case on Amazon brought a surprising number of results, most of which looked like they would suit. Mine isn't scent proof but it protects the vape which is my main priority.

I actually decided to remove one of my spacers, and am using one glass spacer, flat side up (or upside down, lol) right now. You are definitely correct, and it is easier to re-load while out too.

just to be clear: flat side up.... then the herb, right?

Yes, that is what I have been doing starting late this afternoon. I think OF has been doing it that way longer.

***I noticed that these spacers take up about 1/3 of the bowl space. I think it would be great if DaVinci made two sizes of glass spacers. One this size, and another that takes up 1/2 of the bowl space, just a bit more. That way the user can choose how big they want to make the bowl. Just something I was thinking about. :)

I've been trying out the spacers again. I put the spacer in as Vicki said flat side up (like a table) I lay the herb down on the holes/flat side , then I put the flat side on over the herb (so the two flat sides are together with the herb in the middle. That's been working awesome.

I hope that makes sense.

These spacers are a nice addition to the Ascent, I'm really pleased so far.

EDIT
You only use a small amount of herb with this method, it was enough for me. @OF you mentioned you liked to go back and have another session with your herb. The herb is dark afterward so you only get the 1 session. My session lasted around 15 min, I used temps between 375 - 385 degrees.

When I tried that I decided it had reduced the load to too small a volume, sounds like I should give it some more testing.......

Thanks.

I understand what you are saying. I'm going to try that on my next session.

You know, I've tried both herb on bottom, and the herb on top of the spacer and here's my thoughts:

You get greater vapor production with the spacer on top of the load. This is due to the conductivity of the oven. Yes the heater only heat's the oven from the sides, but due to conductivity, the bottom of the oven heat's the load as well. Not much, but it helps to distribute the heat throughout the load.

When using a spacer on bottom, the herb will only be cooked from the sides. This isn't an issue as long as you're willing to wait longer between hits to let the heat 'build up' again.

Today I loaded the oven half full of loosely packed herbs (SCS grinder), and installed one spacer on top (no compression, simply drop the spacer on top). This seems to work REALLY well. I have been extremely impressed with the results from my first load this small.

@CK ,be sure to give extra attention to first spacer as it can

get
awful snug esp after a congested ( added BHO ) sesh

As was previously stated ,you might get a better 'short term' result by just using

single spacer topside ,and drop a few GF's in the halfpack ,thus both reducing session

plus recovery time ,while maintaining sufficient cloud coverage :2c:

Once again, I've been away from FC for too long and having to play catch-up. One of these days I'll learn. Partly it's easy to forget if I get too busy with other stuff, because it seems after a few email alerts if you don't come check it out FC (justifiably so) gives up and quits emailing until you come back.

I came into the conversation late and profited immensely but I just skimmed the thread and missed the excoriation of WakeAndVape for lack of cleaning. I haven't cleaned mine either - just clear out the bowl and rerun. How often should I clean it and how? Pull out the glass and soak in alcohol? Anything with the combustion chamber?

FWIW, I rarely do a thorough cleaning on my Ascent - because it really doesn't seem to need it. That said, everyone has their own concept of "clean", and your vaping habits and temps, as well as the product you put into it all affect how much or how little build-up you get. I used to get the glass stems pretty resined-up, but since I've been using the ceramic screens (small ceramic discs with holes) on top of the load that's become quite infrequent.

Bummer, I haven't been reading this thread and just saw the request for beta testers today so messaged inquiring about it. Then saw that I was a week late. I'll keep using the glass flowers until something better comes along, whether from Davinci or a third party.

Me too - late to the party I am. Serves me right for not visiting FC more frequently. Just my luck they'd come out with a cool new accessory while I was away. Guess I now have to wait unil they make it to retail. I'm loving reading about everybody else's experience with the spacers, tho. If anybody has extras they'd care to share...

Why would you guys make these things wider than the oil jars? Makes no sense to me. Why not call this an alpha spacer and send some more out that are the same width as the oil jars and call those the betas?

Was going to comment about the tolerances with making small glass parts, but others have already done so. Perfect prior example of the phenomenon is the fit of the telescoping glass stems - some pairs fit better than others, and it pays to mix-and-match among the two pairs you get with your unit to find the best fit. I actually have one pair that is apparently slightly curved such that if I rotate the external one while partially extended, it will bind and get stuck to the other. I've not tried to push my luck and see what happens if I attempt rotation beyond the initial sticking point, lest I break one or both.

What I know is that received a crappy, non-functional product followed by crappy, functional replacements and ultimately have a unit that does not work after a year and a half of grief. The ethics of this company sucks! I won't be buying any unit from them.

That's truly unfortunate. And I think not the common experience, especially the latest ones? Most seem pretty happy.

Better luck with your next vape. You buy it to use and enjoy, not fuss over. You might consider Solo/Air, a similar vape with excellent following/reputation.

WOW! That is one big glass star.

I am almost afraid of it! At least it will not be as easily lost.

Where'd ya get it Vicki?
