From the article:

Because individuals that consume a lot of cannabis, and consume it often, develop receptor down-regulation, building up a tolerance to effects of cannabis. In a research study, participants were given over 200 milligrams/day of THC everyday. In just twelve days, those enormous doses were no longer getting the participants uncomfortably high, because the density of their cannabinoid receptors was reduced in response to this chronic exposure. The good news about cannabis tolerance is that it appears completely reversible. Twenty-eight days of abstinence from THC has been shown in another study to up-regulate cannabinoid receptors to their normal density.

This seems interesting. No source as far as I can tell, but it seems to suggest that a 28 day T break would be enough for any user. Of course most people already knew this anecdotally, but it's nice to see something more solid.

I recall Michael Backes discussing research showing 28 day period as enough for a full "reset" somewhere within this interesting 1+hour long lecture : Michael Backes: Cannabis Pharmacy (also linked elsewhere on fc).

I expect his book of same name likewise discusses it - and a search revealed this:
Michael Backes, Author of "Cannabis Pharmacy"
"Stop using THC and your tolerance will reset to normal within 28 days, according to a PET scan study conducted by the National Institutes of Health. Exercise may speed this process, since it increases the production of your body's own endocannabinoids, several of which may help upregulate your ECS back to normal receptor densities.
Tolerance is caused by taking larger doses than needed. Reduce dose to avoid the issue. Many cannabis users view their ability to consume prodigious amounts of cannabis as a badge of honor, when all that is being accomplished is a reduction in their receptor density that subsequently requires larger doses to achieve the same level of effect. Either control your dose, or your dose controls you".

That is a message that is getting lost in the current wave of mj information. Being a micro users has it's benefits.

Yup. The one thing that he always drilled into his customers heads was that if you are taking MJ for pain relief, it is super important to find the right dosage and to not overshoot the mark for if you do, the MJ could actually make the pain worse rather than better.
