@RUDE BOY :

I agree with your assessment, it does take some discipline to limit your dosage for solo seshes, because more herb can be just too much damn fun, sometimes! I found that I could guesstimate how much I would be using with some practice.

I've been running my 2.1 for almost 7 yrs now, and it has the auto shutoff feature @ ~ 30 minutes or so. Do the earlier 2.1s not have this?

In addition, I believe that it's only the 2.2s that have the lights changing on the bottom.

Cheers

Mine didn't(doesn't) have the auto shutoff but I have no idea of how old it is. I bought it here in the classifieds and it had made the rounds through a few hands before I bought it.

I do know it's as old as the first few pages of this thread and still going strong, it's just living elsewhere now.

No @biohacker it's not really that big of a deal for most people, it times out after 30 minutes and can be turned right back on again. I just like my evening sessions to be 'Album' length at 45 -50 minutes.

If @nicelytoasted has a 7yr old HA with auto shut off mine must have been a first generation and even older then theirs. ... I think the Huge lesson learned here is even the early herbalaires were built like tanks since it's still taking pretty heavy daily use with multiple sessions, fucking things a workhorse for sure.

Personally I think the shutoff is a good thing, being so easy to just turn it back on. Even if it goes cold it doesn't take that long to warm back up. Many times I just forgot the HA was running, although knowing it would shut off helped with that I'm sure. But one less thing to think about, especially while buzzed.

I get that a lot of you like to leave your logs on. That is, of course, an unnecessary waste of power which I'm sure you are all replacing on the grid with your solar panels... :)

Not complainin, just sayin...

I'm sorry to hear that the 30 minute auto shutoff cannot be disabled. Even when I had a cloud, the 60 min timer really annoyed me, but that's because it took about 10 mins for thermal equilibrium.

When it says 2-3 min warmup for the HA, is it really optimal? Or is 10+ min better?

@cybrguy most logs literally cost pennies a day leaving them plugged in on low to medium temp. I think most of my vapes have used a lot more power even when used intermittently.

I find the timer somewhat annoying but I am, too, glad to have it. 60 minutes long would be ideal for me, time dilation and herbalAire sessions seem to go hand in hand  But like others have said, quite easy to just switch it off and back on, no lag time besides turning the dial.

Re: Efficiency and comparison with Nano. I'd say overall in terms of total trichs harvested and inserted into my lungs for a given amount of material, herbalAire wins. In terms of most amount of visible vapor produced from a single hit, E-Nano wins. In order to achieve the no-stir/whole bud/thorough extraction herbalAire magic, the HA vapes at a much lesser rate than the Nano. Is that a bad thing? If you like blowing huge clouds, then yes. But if it's about getting medicated from a certain amount of material, well IMO HA can do it better than the Nano as it will extract more completely when all is said and done. (Also, it's more medicating to do smaller hits over a course of time versus one big hit IMO, lungs can only absorb so much active per hit.)

Right now I consider the HA to be an amazing sipper vape, especially with how I use it in "Minivap" mode with the load extended far away from the heater by ceramic discs. I wouldn't call it a ripper, that's reserved for vapes like Daisy/Lily, EVO, Nano... vapes that have undiffused large airflow throughputs, and use mostly convection. Of course with the ripper vapes there's a big trade off with grinding, stirring, risk of charring, and more particles being liberated (e.g. vaping beyond the burnt popcorn point).

edit: I consider ~0.1g to be an optimal load for the HA, well enough to give each hit visible vapor (love me my visible vapors). If it's quite dank material, 0.05g (for this I use an 8 disc method) can produce good visible vapor too. Some test results: 0.1g and "Minivap" ceramic disc mode, I can get 8 hits of 5 seconds each, each with visible vapor, and session spread-out over 25 minutes.

Still debating this vape.... I wouldn't use it with bags nor whip, simply adapter to glass. Would I be happy ripping .2g with it in under 5 minutes? With my LSV, I can turn it on and it's ready in a few minutes, tear off some pieces and stuff them in the bowl, vape - stir- tamp - vape and within a minute or two I have perfectly brown even ABV. Or is it a more slower protracted session?

Still need to go through the entire thread start to finish...i've been bouncing around cross secting it! lol I think i've watched all the videos on youtube as well!

That's basically the only thing drawing me to it! Not grinding/stirring really fascinates me. I can deal with a slower session...I guess the clouds will just be a bit wispier from what i've read so far? I just don't wanna be pulling and pulling and pulling and not be satisfied and end up with a headache.

I found the vapor satisfying and the draw pretty open but I mainly used direct draw or the whip/vapo 2 Vapor Barrel combo(actually gave huge clouds) and not a water tool 'cause I only own small glass with the orbiter now being my biggest piece (so I'm no glass expert) but I know the HA milked out my tiny flex mini rig with ease.
With the HA it felt the same to me as pulling on the rig by itself without adding any resistance.

That's one thing I pretty much never experience on my herbalAire, but I do know what it's like to have that on other vapes. Using the HA is always very medical feeling.

Re: herbalAire and slow sessions, the way I use HA is to draw out session length and space loads away from heater, but if used in the standard manner with some buds in the crucible, sitting on the bottom of the heater chamber, it would vape faster (especially if set on 400). With a 0.2g load, it would give good sized hits as well. Not as thick a cloud as LSV but pretty good. Because HA vapes at a lesser rate (diffuse airflow magic), cloud size is mostly a function of load size... ofc temperature matters as well, and unground/ground.

I don't believe you'll match the speed of the LSV/Bong with the HA but you won't have to grind(break up), stir or tamp during your session either.
The best way I came up with to rip the herbie was through a 16" DG fritted disc. BUT for the best vapor you turn it on high and let it get HOT. While that happens you take a crucible and lay a nice new screen, but of finer mesh, right on top of the bottom of the crucible. Grind your medicine. You then place your .2 to quarter gram load in there, the HA is actually not to choosy, and then place another screen down on top, thus, encapsulating the load. Don't crush it down too hard, you need places in there for the vapor to appear and flow from. Your base unit should be warm by now, if not let it get warm, and when you are ready drop that crucible in, pop the PTFE in place, give it a tad of warm up time, then hit it!!!

This system worked quite well for me for a long while as y'all have seen my movies . . .

I've used this method to finish off shake (not deliberately ground) and it does seem to produce more visible vapor. Personally prefer vaping solid buds because it's faster, easier and less messy. I only vape shake with a mouthpiece that already needs to be cleaned. :)

No clue what I did yesterday
I bought a larger silicione tube on amazon and just pulled it over the mouthpiece. The other end just goes into a bong. The larger tube helped with airflow a little bit and made it just perfect for me. And yeah I just prefer silicone over the PVC (does it really matter? prbly not..). Also the silicone tube was 10 feet, so I cut it in 2, one short whip and one really long whip. A shorter whip will have better airflow ofc.

For the first time since february 2013 I connected my pump to my HA2.2 to inflate some ballons, I filled the crucble with a lemon sativa (0.25) +kief (0.1)+ a drop of reclaim, set it at max t°.... first bag was not really cloudy but tasted nice dry, but after the 2nd was so much cloudy I connected it to my recycler (first time I could enjoy it so much since there is no more draw resistance you can fully enjoy the vortex action) and the 3rd.., and the 4th, clouds starts to decrease at bag n°5 and after n°6 I turned the machine off....and I put down my head on my arms for some minutes....

I'm looking to get my first desktop vape, I have had 2 portables for awhile but I think the time has come to plug in because I'm tired of batteries! haha. After looking around for awhile I like the versatility of the Herbal aire as well as many good reviews for it.

I am surprised that the Elite version is ~$150 more than the 2.2 version. Do you guys think it is worth the extra $ to get the elite over the 2.2? I will be using it mostly for bags, with groups, or as a 14 mm attachment in my water piece.

I would only spend the extra for the Elite if you are married to digital temp controls. The deal above for the 2.2 includes the tong adapter that comes with the Elite. My opinion may not mean as much as some others since I've never had the 2.2

Hazy -

I absolutely agree and do not give up on it. The difference is so monumental it made me wonder what the hell I had been doing for the previous 9 months I had owned the HA. If you are in Australia, as your details suggest, that likely means you don't have a Lowe's or Home Depot. But any sort of home improvement store should have food-grade tubing. It looks exactly like the stuff that the whips are made of on the SSV, VaporBrothers, etc.

Then, from there, it's off to a head shop for a bong or, my favorite, just grab a hookah and remove the bowl. Then run enough tubing from the HerbalAire to the top of the hookah - just jam it on there, it's plastic so it'll stretch and be airtight. Make sure you get a small hookah or a long tube, or put one on the table, one on the floor, whatever - just so the tubes fit.

Removing the straw also improves airflow to the point where you can take pretty normal hits without straining yourself. I don't know why they used such narrow straws - perhaps it actually allows for thicker hits because of the slower-moving air - but the HA compensates for higher airflow and in my experience the hits are just fine. Smooth as glass.

just pulled the trigger on the 2.2 question for balloon users. after 1st balloon is filled do you take out the bowl and vape it, then put it back in to fill 2nd bag? is the bag system ok, hear conflicting opinions.

I, too, finally pulled the trigger on the vape I've wanted for a long time H2.2. My Woodeez finally died, after 4 long years of pretty hard driving, and I wanted to try something that's a bit of a step up in versatility and size. So far I've noticed it definitely does fit into my life as a sipper vape (kind of like a log vape), especially with the relatively small amount of material you can use. I could get heavy hits if I want if I pack it, but most of the time I don't want that and that's a lot of $/herb for the sake of blowing out clouds of delicious, usable vapor.

I did notice that the screen is a bit wide. I tried to see if I could get more out of log vape ABV, and the pump simply blew a ton of brown into the bag. I've since added over the heat port, inside the crucible and over the mouthpiece screen. I haven't tried again, but I might. The pump is pretty loud.

Right now, I start at 325 and move up by 5-10 degrees every 10 min (after some arbitrary number of pulls). No visible vapor, typical doubt, but I am at a good level and no doubts 1.5 hrs into a pea sized chunk (no grinding!). Still haven't reached 400.

Am I pulling on spent herb?

Maybe. But I'm too toasty to care.

When I vape bags (rarely) it's cause I want a deep medication so I chain my ballons until the bowl is dead without remove (here it's nice to get 2 ballons so when you are vaping one the 2nd is inflating) but it's a terrific rythme to vape and it leads you quickly in the spaceship, most part of the time I didn't pack the crucible full and I get 5-6 ballons.

When I prefer to take my time I choose the whip or direct draw.

A question about pump: is it possible to buy a pump with speed selector to emulate the Herbalizer do (i.e vaping with fan on with a bubbler...)?
the HA pump is too fast for this purpose....I think (I only tried one time with whip it was not pleasant!)

My first vaping purchase and still one of my favourite!
