Not to go offtrack, but the camera is a Canon G12, my favourite camera of all time. I don't do DSLR and I avoid phone cameras. Tip: no matter what camera you use, knowing how to use Photoshop is a big help. ;)

Hello Good Community,

I've now had a couple weeks of time to get to know my Zion. i call her Courtney because she's dirty and white. I digress...

Before two weeks ago I wasn't one of you. I was a dyed-in-the-wool combuster. That's when I met Courtney. And GOD was she hot! I was like Whoah! Wait. What?

Our relationship was forged in a cyclone of heat, day after day of furious exploration, and one long weekend of, well, I cannot say outright, but oh FUCK! (shit, sorry, can I swear here?)

This week however she has shown me her softer, silkier side. We have found that turning down the heat a bit draws it out much longer. Slow, steady climbs to rapturous finales vs. the ferocious sprints of yesterweek.

She's all about the circumstance now, sometimes she's slow and playful, but when time is short, BAM!

SHE hits YOU!

For me, personally, I'm getting sick and tired of the reports in this thread that refer to dating and sex and all the other innuendo. It was funny at first but it is now tiresome and I simply will not read any more of it. Its to the point where I can't take this project seriously and its also annoying. Regular reports please.

I hear ya, it's worn out. I'm generally one or two jokes late to the party anyway so no harm no foul.

ANYWAY...

Week one was spent pretty much with the output set 1/2 to above, and it was a bit harsh, but coming into the situation as a combuster with cloudy exhaust/harsh flavor as the norm, I didn't really know it, and though it tended to make me cough and/or sneeze, honestly I was satisfied with it's spirited performance characteristic.

Then per some advice from RBT, week two was spent with the output set to the lowest 10-15% of the dial, along with a 7-12 second pre-warming and this resulted in a much more flavorful and prolonged user experience and the coughing/sneezing disappeared.

With the Zion, maintaining a flat-ish temperature curve at the desired temperature level can only be achieved through technique, so there will naturally be a bit of "getting to know" the device.

One thing I really like about the Zion is the usage cycle. Like a pipe you can just pick it up, use it, and put it back down. No significant warm-up (or cool-down) required. I also like how the parts are rarely too hot to handle. Only after prolonged session style usage does the stem get warm enough to require delicate handling, and even then only along the ground portion where it engages the heater.

And since it's open loop with wide open flow and plenty of temp overhead, the user controls how fast and hot it runs. It never feels like drawing through a coffee stir.

So in a nutshell, after two-two and a half weeks here's my pros/cons list

Pros:
FAST!
efficient
packs a big punch
stays cool
plenty of power
standard fittings
has thus far kept me from combusting

Cons:
bigger than we'd all like
can overdo it if not careful
no low battery indication
stem gets quite grimy, maybe a finer mesh screen would help
has me obsessing over vaping now, and is distracting me from other responsibilities.

Yeah, I agree. Hot glass is one of my nemeses (which eliminates a couple new vapes) and that worries me a little, but I suspect it only comes in to play after large (or long) sessions with multiples hitting the device. I think it should be easily manageable for the way I expect to use the Zion.

Edit: I still wish for a battery indicator of some kind but I'll deal...

Here's something for you data junkies to absorb...

For this example a standard hit consists of a 10 second "pre-warm" with the power on but no flow, and then 15 seconds of inhale, the first 10 with power the final 5 with no power for clearing and "pre-cool". Lungs are completely filled in 15 seconds. Draw is slow and steady mostly, but huffing is allowed.

Screen is pressed in 12mm, then the end filled somewhat loosely half way. No idea what that amounts to by weight, but a 12mm dia x 6mm cylinder is the standard sample size for the results shown.

typical results:
15 hits total

Power profile by hit (how far the knob is turned up):
1-8@5%
9-12@15%
13-14@25%
15@50%

Flavor profile by hit:
1-6 *****
7-8 ****

16+ just hot air

Maintenance profile by hit:

A couple comments:

The stars in the profiles aren't "ratings", just a means to capture the relative changes in condition.

Any thoughts on how many time you think you could do that on a charge?

Thanks @thekarmawhore that is some good info. I can't say any of it surprised me.I'm the type of user who starts the session on the cool side just for flavor. Then I finish my session on the highest heat with out combustion. This seems to be the perfect unit to do so with.
