fuck yea! dude I can't wait til the day this thing works 100% fucking frankendabs! you will end up mounting it face up and just dump in buckets of nugs!

Thanks man! So far, I can't see why it won't work and that is enough to keep me pushing forward. I think to be able to dump in buckets I will need much larger rollers as these are only 1.25" OD you got to push them in hard to get em started, where the larger diameter rollers would just gobble them up. I can envision rosin just dripping into a silicone catch pan off the scrapers now.. That will be a good day!

I got mine on ebay... compared to say the price of a vacuum pump and chamber setup plus all the cost of whatever solvent you choose... 179$ isnt bad....
that's a case of everclear... or... a case of butane...

lets also factor in .... your gonna break that hair iron eventually...

at least thats what my train of thought was.

oh and any tech I post up is based on using said machine.

so....picked up an arbor press today. went with the 1 ton version :science: I got a pretty good deal on it too: an online coupon for 20% off and the crushed box (typical of H.F) knocked an additional 20% off thanks to their open-box policy. Out the door for $32.

On a trial run the plastic shell cracked during the second press. surprisingly a consumer hair iron is not designed to handle 1 ton of pressure:shrug:so I dissected the plastic to make way for a stronger mount. more to come later...

Would it be possible to go lo-tech with that press and use some steel plates, a torch, and a heat gun to regulate?

Has anyone proven that these extreme pressure techniques are necessary? Lots of people seem to be doing this and I'm sure most people doing this by hand are probably rather medicated at the time and aren't using tons of strength and still making some decent looking stuff. I'm thinking the hydration of the buds is more important. Just got my hair straightener today and haven't got much chance to play around yet but the couple tries I did I had to add a drop of water to the nug to get anything out as my stash is rather dry to begin with.

Can anyone show me a picture of how they're using the screens? And what keeps the rosin from just remaining in the screen and not making it to the parchment?

High pressure press means you can use a lower operating temp. These dudes are using a sick press and only using 150°F.

That last video....omg. :clap::bowdown::clap::bowdown:

Also just wanted to share with you guys that a buddy of mine in Cali who grows beautiful weed but never really processed it right found out about rosin and loves it. He was dabbing the definition of tane soup daily and now he says he's never going to blast again and is in love with rosin hahaha. He sent me a pic of some he's made recently.

@GuyLeDuche As long you have a flat and smooth pressing surface I imagine it would work fine. Before I got the hair iron I tried putting my lever setup in the oven- it held the heat, but my hastily made pressing plates didn't align very well.

@tony yayo There are definitely diminishing returns to adding pressure after a certain point-- I'm not sure where that is, but I'm confident it won't be reached with a stock hair iron. The housing just absorbs too much of the pressure you put on it. if you notice oil on the pucks after they're pressed, or if hydration and a re-press yields a ton of oil, it's probably not getting enough pressure on the first press.

So where can I get one of those presses they're using lol. Is that self heated or are they heating it some other way?

So my work was going to throw this away last year when I stepped up and offered to take it off their hands. At the time, I had no idea what to do with it but snatch it up as fast as I could. Now, I think I may have an idea for it if the roller press flops out.

It's a Furon Synflex single phase 1hp hydraulic* 10 ton bench top swaging press meant for making hydraulic* hoses.. I may have other uses for it now..:leaf::goon: <---new rosin press smiley?

I tried this with an iron for the first time yesterday, and I got NO oil. Tried the same herb with the same hair straightener I've been using and I got hella oil. What gives?

what kind of iron? like a clothing iron? was their heat on both sides of the puck. my experience showed that one side being cool causes all the oil to remain trapped on the cool side. I have to preheat both plates on my press so they are equal in temp before pressing.

I tried this as well for the first time yesterday, only did two nugs since herb here is really expensive and I dont have any dabbing equipment yet.
It worked surprisingly well for me so I guess I have to buy some new equipment!

I seemed to be getting a pretty good yield with a clear amber shatter-like oil.
Amazing that such a simple tech can give such good results.
