Tell me how you do this. I just got a Haze screen to play with.
I will take pics and post them tomorrow if that'll help illustrate, but here's how I form it;
1. Take your Haze convection screen and gently unwork it's shape. It won't flatten out completely but that is fine.
2. Pop the bottom screen out of your herbalizer. Then take the newly deformed haze screen and simply push it down into place. You will end up with a fair amount of screen riding up the side of the chamber. In order to make the screen more uniform I put the herbie bottom chamber on a hard surface and use something small enough to fit inside the chamber to flatten the bottom part of the screen. I use either a metal or glass stem to do this and it only takes a few seconds.
3. Your screen is now formed. You can pop it out of the herbie chamber by pushing it up from the bottom. It occasionally requires a little reforming but it is as simple as opening the screen back up a bit and re-inserting and tamping again.
When I initially began experimenting I was using the haze screen on the bottom and the herbie screen on top where it normally sits. Although I get more consistent results than with the stock setup I really felt the need to experiment. I soon molded a second Haze screen as I had the first one so that I could sandwich the herb tight similar to how
@rogerrabbit (I believe, I'm on my phone so can't double check the post easily) does with the Herbie screens.
That method worked pretty well as well. However I still wasn't fully satisfied because I felt that I was going through herb quicker.
I had read your suggestion on changing the herbie top and bottom screens to keep them cleaner and decided on a whim to try something a bit different because I didn't think the Herbie screens were holding up well to the frequent changing. Instead of sandwiching my herb with the two Haze screens I decided to flip the uppermost haze screen upside down, creating a kind of screen capsule. I really liked the results and discovered that I no longer had to worry about my material clinging to the Herbie top screen. In fact, it really doesn't gunk up at all anymore, and I figured that changing out the Haze screens would be easier than changing the screens on the herbie.
Right now I am set up as follows; stock herbie screens in top and bottom with a haze screen inserted upside down into the chamber. It doesn't compress the herb but still blocks it from reaching up and gunking the Herbie top screen.
I swapped to this method because I've noticed that with the haze screen on the bottom that more vapor was escaping when the herbie fans would kick on. A little vapor escape is normal but to me the amount of vapor escaping was definitely increased. I believe the reason for that is that with the haze screen tamped into place at the bottom the screen sat closer to the bulb than the stock bottom screen allowed. I was also able to take draws that produced vapor after cutting off the heat (either by powering off the unit it by just taking the herbie bowl out of its nest) whereas normally I didn't experience much production when the heat was turned off.
In the next few days I willpop out the herbie bottom screen and try placing it down only to the level that the herbie bottom screen sits to see if that doesn't correct the vapor loss I exerienced. I had meant to do it sooner but I am still enjoying the current setup as I am getting much more consistent vapor production than I ever got with the herbie screens alone.
I would suggest forming two of the haze screens so you can experiment a bit.
Your mileage may vary. To clarify, my unit with a stock setup was pretty inconsistent with regards to the vapor production. I would send it in to get recalibrated but it is from Massdrop, and Herbalizer does not recognize the warranty that comes with a purchase from an authorized seller.
On a side note I noticed you mentioned that you may make a video for those of us looking to really white out our glass; please do!
I know that you're a big fan of whole nug vaping and I realize that the haze screen on top may interfere with that a bit because it creates a smaller housing from the Herb, but I'm really looking forward to hearing your results so I fo hope you'll give it a shot. I think you'll be impressed at how clean the Herbie top screen stays, and how little maintenance is needed with the Haze screens. I mean, when I was using two Haze screens I swapped them occasionally but really did not find that they required the changing. If there ever is material stuck to the Haze screen a quick brushing takes care of that.
