Buying & Vaping Shake ONLY

Lately, I have been buying really nice cheap shake at $5 a gram. I do think it is inferior to true flowers but I'm not sure I could pass a blind vape test between the two. Am I actually short-changing myself? Picking up on something normally reserved for the 'butter folks'? Has anyone else's buying habits changed since they became a vaporist?

Interesting question. I only buy the best bud that's available at the time I go to my med dispensary at 65 on eighth. I've never vaped any bud that was lower grade than that. One stem (4 good hits) keeps me buzzed for about 4 to 5 hours. Logic tells me that with lower grade bud, I would have to vape more than one stem to get the same high, so that it kinda all equals out.

I could be wrong though, being that I've never vaped lower-end bud, so I too would like to hear from others here as well.

Since a vaporizer does not improve the quality I would say for most people nothing really changes but that hardly means anything. If it works for you, rock on.

If you want a visual on the quality different look a regular bud and then look at the same type in shake. Use a jewelers loop or whatnot, you will notice that there is a difference in goodies on the shake compared to an undamaged bud. Think of shake as bruised and mishandled bud.

If it gets you where you want to be, its all good, great actually.

Do yourself a favor and experience those other types of weed. They have different sensations, its not just volume. While I never bought legal in America from a store in Europe the weed tender can explain what each weed does and/or they can match the best weed to fit what your looking for if you describe what you want. I would imagine your guy could do the same. I highly recommended that you experience the full spectrum of weed.

The budtender in my dispensary is very knowledgeable and we talk at length about the various strains, along with genetics, and the different highs and the specific ailments that the various strains can help with, etc etc etc. I have tried various strains, from pure indica's to pure sativa's to hybrid indica dominates to hybrid sativa dominates...........but, I always go for the best that is available within each particular strain.

But I have contemplated going down a few rungs in quality, but I just figured that I would have to use more to get to the same place. I assumed that for the most part, the lower the price, the lower the quality. Am I wrong in that assumption?

I should point out that the $5 shake is from a $65 flower. For strains, I'm covered. In this case, I go w/the herd and S in the daytime w/I at night and hybrids thrown in depending.

The knowledge in this forum is crazy - I don't know bruised from not-bruised. How does this affect the performance of the vaping? It's actually not a saving $ thing, it's more, Why should I if it doesn't matter?

Pretty new to this forum and sorry that this thread is so old. BUT..... Since i bought a buddha ive also been buying lower grade, seeing as how that is all that seems to be around me at school :/ The main reason I love the buddha is because it usually gives me a much "cleaner" high than smoking and i can still function well in the real world ;) i.e. work... Though I have found that when I buy dank headies to vape, I easily "over-vape" for my own liking. I seem to get ridiculously high and then i gotta go to work :p which is still fun anyways... but with lower grade i feel like i get high by packing almost the same amount with the lesser. idk i guess its preference... kinda like whiskey and beer, its all up to the preference of how you want to get high :D vape on!

i buy the leftover shake from 1lb+ bags that are almost gone from a buddy for a fat discount. i love it.

wouldn't the leftover shake from a 1lb bag of mids-highs be loaded with trichs that broke off all the buds over time from constantly moving the contents? i always assumed it was.

Yes there should be well enough trichomes to satisfy you. The main disavantages, other than needing a larger quantity, would be the leafy taste and harshness.

true

maybe you should get a sifting box or small tumbler. considering your getting it so cheap i would remove as much of the plant matter as possible before using.

Logic would tell us that most SHAKE will have a lower THC content than buds because what usually falls off buds is the small leaves, but on the other hand much of the crystal tricombs and red hairs will fall off into shake so you might still be left with a good THC content depending on what is in your shake.

When ABV is low, I buy a bag of shake to expedite bud collection for brownies which is becoming a beloved new direction for me.
It's great as an option, half the fun is sharing with your friends, and fresh bud even if it's shake along with ABV (from the same dealer who only carries exotics to begin with)
insures that everyone's experience is memorable.

*edit* - the point is, vaping is more efficient than smoking obviously so we can afford to buy the best and vape the best because proportionately even in small quantities a bag lasts much longer, as if you were buying "regs" particularly with a log vape.

so always buy the best that's available - it's not just the intensity of good weed, it's the quality of the ride and different strains do give you kind of a different trip, plus the intensity.

my current faves are "chemdawg" and "ny diesel."

once a friend brought over "regs" and after one hit in the vape I decided it was a drag and unnecessary since we have better stuff.
regs in, regs out, regardless of the delivery system.

If by shake you basically mean trim (small leaves) you can grind it up in a grinder with a mesh screen, then vape what falls through - works great in a MFLB. But expect to pass out for a couple of hours. :ko:

Shake is what you get at the bottome of a big bag of buds. When buying in a Cali dispencary it will have lots of little buds, some leaves and other goodies. These bags often have lots of goodness in them because loose crystals settle to the bottom of the bag and end up in the shake.

Trimmings I would consider something different. These are the leaves that get trimmed off the bud after harvest.

I would smoke shake, I would not smoke trimmings however they are great from making hash (recent episode of Weeds) or edibles.

Answer to your questions depends completely on the quality of the shake you are getting

Well I (and many/most others here) don't actually smoke anything anymore, whether it be trim, shake or crown bud. But vaping trim is OK though - you just get less vapour than from bud, so a larger chamber vape is best for this. Or, as I suggested above, grind it up and get the kief from it - excellent knock-out dust.

lwien, i wouldnt vape lower grade stuff if u dont have to, but to say u uhave never vaped/smoked shwag is wild. I vaped a litte elbow of C99 x skunk male shake a few weeks ago, just to test it for taste/vapour content, etc. But ya i call shake the little bud leave, and call the stuff at the bottom of the bag, "bottom of the bag". :ko: If you mean bottoms, why wouldnt you vape it, but i dont know if $5 a gram is really a great deal on shake but i guess its decent for bottoms, especially if you u pay crazy US prices. All depends what the scene is like arouund you. But basically bottom line is if it works for you rip it.

Sorry, I meant vaping too. I know it works, you can vape stems too and it's 1000 times more enjoyable than smoking. It's just not very dense and I'd rather make it into an edible or hash.

And Iwien buys for dispensaries in Cali so shake is "bottoms" not trim or bud leaf

I can chime in here with one anecdote.

The few times I had sampled the Volcano was at a friend who always uses shake in his V. I was impressed, and bought an E a few days later. His shake was from big bags of A- level stuff, not clippings.

Recently, I tried the V at a new acquaintance's house from fresh bud I would have labeled a bit closer to A. I was much more impressed at the second guys place. I had never tried the V with fresh moist bud before and it was better.

That's actually the reason I am now going out and getting a V because the experience was so good.

However, at the price you may well do better with shake.

Get both and experiment. So little to choose from on this coast,

i'd love to have that "problem."

Added thought: maybe mixing ground fresh bud 50/50 or some combination there off, with shake would yield a longer lasting stash.

At cost your mentioning this sounds like a buy!!

Bah. You young whippersnappers think it's hardship having to use shake from buds. You don't know how lucky you are. When I was a lad, we never had buds. All we had was leaf, and we were happy to have that. We had to smoke it too, none of your sissified vaporizing for us. It worked pretty darned good. True story.

I think people who look down on shake and leaf are missing out. Sure I'll use the best I can find, but I know from long experience you can get really happy from combusting clippings, shake, and/or leaf, so I don't see why vaporizing it would be any different. I don't do it any more because I don't have to, not because that stuff is beneath my dignity.
