TIFU, I put about 250g into a coffee grinder and now I have a crapload of dust. Some questions?

I have mild arthritis in several of my fingers and I was dead tired of manual grinding. People always talk about grinding in a coffee grinder or a magic bullet so I thought I would try it. Of course I didn't stop to think that maybe I should experiment with just a little. Nope, just impulse put in my whole stash and I now have a lot of dust. :(

I know the best option would be to do an extract, but where I live ISO maxes out at 70% and drinkable alcohol at 150 proof (and that is very difficult to buy, I've been looking for months now and have 1 small bottle of Bacardi 150 to show for it). We will try and cook with some of my dust this weekend, but eatables have other issues for us so its not ideal.

I am still new to vaping, only been doing it for under 6 months, but I love it. I have a Pinnacle Pro, which is not great, and an e-Nano, which I have been happy with but it gets annoying to be tied down to a cord.

Both of these devices are not doing well with my medicinal dust. I end up inhaling particles of my meds and choking (even though my bubblerr) and dust was clogging up my vapes till I found that using 500 SS mesh from my old genesis atomizers works really well to help this problem. I am also finding that I am wasting meds every time I vape with my dust, heck probably close to 3g blew out the window today as I forgot to turn off the fan.

I've been really wanting to buy a new vape for the last 2 months and the Crafty has been at the top of my list with the Mighty right below it. Not sure if too much or too little background info, please let me know if too little and I can write more, if too much sorry! :) Here are my questions:

1) Is there a device for powered grinding I can buy that won't turn my meds into dust/powder?

2) Would a Crafty (or Mighty) be a good fit for my 250g of medicinal dust? I have read here and elsewhere claims that any grind works in it. My "grind" is kind of extreme though. The plastic loader it comes with seems very compelling to me as a good way to not have my powdered meds blow away so easily.

3) Are there other vapes you might recommend for my medicinal dust? For my next unit, I want to be cord free and easily portable. Stealth not a major issue, but a plus. As an example, one of the many complaints I have with my PnP is I can't fill it and put it in a pocket or bag, as the cap always falls off and dumps my meds. My budget is quite flexible ATM, assuming I don't need to buy another 250G of medicinal herbs.

4) If you have other ideas on what I can do with this dust, I'm all ears.

Thank you very much for any help!

That sucks! but, I hope you meant 25 grams cause 250 would be over 1/2 a pound... using fresh herb like a bed seems like it would help.

maybe a vape like the extreme Q that blows the air up into the material would work? Or sandwich pack an eq elbow with fresh herb and yer dust...

I like Stickstone's idea of mixing with fresher herb. A medible batch would work too.

I use a coffee grinder as well, but I grind small batches and even then I just pulse the grinder, and check the herb, and repeat until it's a grind I like. And my mighty can use small nugs so I don't grind real fine.

Thanks everyone! Sadly, yes its about 250 grams. Its my medical supply for many months. I live in a prohibitionist country but a medical group I am a member of distributes a seasonal crop to all its members, this was my allotment for this period.

The biggest problem with edibles is that I have a demanding job and I need spot treatment so edibles are unfortunately not practical. As I am sensitive to ingestion, edibles at medicinal dose level keeps me dosed for at least an entire day and usually more than a day. Also, we are still trying to figure out how to decarb the dust. :)

Because I have been a member of a medical group and this my allotment for this time period, I actually don't know where to buy more to make a sandwich. I have asked my nephew to see if he can find any, but in this strict prohibitionist country risk is high, quality is very low (like mold and bugs low) and price is expensive to turn to street sources.

I would love to hear more on your method.

I have something similar and while it is better than a traditional grinder on my hands, its still a painful and sometimes difficult chore. I like the way you are thinking though!

There are plenty of devices that vape nicely with super-fine grind. The INH, the Launch Box, the new Pax 2, lots of desktop convection vapes...

The Pax 2 has been on my radar of late. Do you know or can you confirm that it would be effective with dust and not get crazy clogged?

Can we see pictures of your blunder?

Sorry as I am from a prohibitionist country and FC does not use HTTPS, posting a picture would just become evidence in my arrest. :(

I appreciate all the desktop suggestions but I really want to be portable in my next vape. Because my medicinal use is for addressing pain issues, when I dose I am able to accomplish stuff so I like to be mobile.

So is there really no powered grinder that can produce an effective grind for vaping use? I have to say, that's disappointing but a solid product idea, I bet there are enough people out there like me to make it profitable.

Thanks again everyone! If there are any more ideas I would be grateful, thanks!

I've only had it for 48 hours, and only used it a couple times so far, so I can't give you a definitive answer yet. However, I did note that it worked much better (for me) with a pretty fine grind vs. a medium grind, which I found didn't work great in the Pax 2. It would be prudent to brush it out after every load, but it wasn't clogging up easily on me from my limited experience.

I really think you should check out the MagicFlight LaunchBox, it will work perfectly with your material

I had a similar mishap before but not with so much! I found a small piece of cotton ball on top of the load would prevent all particles from going through the screen into my mouth.

You could also try pressing the fine dust with a vice or similar and after it is compressed break off small chunks.

Best of luck!

Just an idea. Why not try putting some cotton (thin) on top of your fine bud as a filter. It will vape your material that way. After the cotton gets real stiff you can vape that alone in your unit with all the oils that have accumulated. Good luck with that. You don't want to do anything to waste your medicine.

I've seen those contraptions to make hash too.

Dude, use SS (stainless steel) wool sandwich instead of bud, placing your dust between pads of SS wool in a given bowl and change/clean it regularly. Cotton will work as has been said above, but will add a flavor/texture to the vapor. SS is definitely better.

Also as another medical user in an illegal country, I feel for you brother! Hope this advise and/or any of the above helps!

Wow I have never thought of SS wool! Seems to me it might make a great top sandwich bread for all kinds of vapes to prevent clogging and to keep the load small.

Aren't there electric grinders? Have heard of it.. Might wanna check that out?

No idea if it's worth something.

Have you tried compressing all the dust into a block?

That brought to mind that I've read somewhere here on FC about someone grinding their herbs real fine then making little pellets or pucks using a pollen/kief press and vaping them but it'll take a bit of hand power to use the press, probably more then a hand grinder so you may need to find someone to do it for you.

@na0landy I bought this little plastic press that was a small cylinder and you capped 1 end and screwed the other end together pressing your bud for an on the go type dispenser. It produces little pucks of bud that when vaped open a little and produce a good vaping experience.Works great with my firefly. That kief press I think would be perfect for you.Although you might need help with the pressing part.

Again, thank you everyone! This community is awesome.

@mitchgo61, thanks. I will do more research, but its looking like my next vape.

I really think you should check out the MagicFlight LaunchBox, it will work perfectly with your material

Thanks! I did try one and my arthritis makes it uncomfortable to hold the battery in.

@capcoho, @CarolKing, genius idea, I tried the cotton and it definitely helps! Thank you!

On the top of my list for the hardware store. The cotton worked but it does alter the taste, looking forward to trying steel wool. Seriously appreciate the solidarity!

I found a few online and it looks like it be worth a shot. Thanks!

@Grim Chicklets, @RUDE BOY, @CarolKing, @HD Springer, never heard of this before but now that I see it, man this looks like it would really work! Not sure if the pucks the press produces would fit into a PnP or eNano well, but I am definitely buying one of these presses and give it a try.

Thanks again everyone, I am so very grateful! I was getting pretty down thinking I had totally screwed up and trashed my long term stash. I'm feeling hope and much relief now. I am really appreciative, thanks!
