Discontinued Zion vaporizer

The 3d PDF which will be available from the RBT website shortly shows both units, the first 100 unit in an "in use" condition, and the "concept" production unit all buttoned up. I tossed a lighter in there too, for scale.
TKW, did you drop this somewhere we can find it? If you haven't, no rush, I just didn't want to miss it.

Sorry @cybrguy that's my fault. I am having troubles with my web site but the web master is looking into it.

For now though we have temperature curves to share with you. In working with @stickstones his unit was running hotter than it needed to be. A bit of a wild horse that is hard to tame. After many hours of testing and design changes we ended up lowering the voltage and adding another two inches of heater element. This not only dropped the operating temperatures to a safer range it also generates a more uniform ABV with the added heater surface area.

The key learning is that the Zion continually climbs in temperature until you let off the button. If the device was able to hit a stable temperature it would require a long warm up time. The Zion heats rapidly to a max temperature and then cools back down to around 200 F in about 10 seconds after each draw. Learning how to use the device takes some time but once you do... game over.

So what does everyone think of the temperature ranges? Anyone wanna see @pakalolo new girl? She's a cute little redhead, Her name is Jessica. She's a little shy about going glueless in public.

Hello FC'ers, thank you for your patience! the'whore's been working on the floor.

The latest Zion 3d PDF is now available from the RBT website here (warning, large file ahead):

http://www.rastabuddhatao.net/2 zions_beta and prod.PDF

It features two units, they are identical except for the knobs. The sticky-outie one is the one that is currently planned for the first 100.

The primary differences vs. the original design are the addition of the lid, the full size battery access door and the recessed control features.

Enjoy!

edit to add: It probably won't show in your browser, you have to download it and open it in adobe reader, or other compatible program.

I could be wrong, but I think the first 100 aren't "testers" in the official sense of the term (like the beta testers right now) but more like "early adopters." I'm hoping that maybe a discounted upgrade down the line for the first 100 might be a possibility, though.

Too early to tell how much difference there may be between them. If the only real dif is whether a knob is recessed or not I can't see that as a problem for me. If it turns out that the first 100 find an oven problem or something like that I would suspect that RBT wouldn't even want them out there and would probably have us send them back to change the oven.
Well have to see how it works out. These are stand up guys, I'm not concerned.

Edit: Well, they SEEM like stand up guys... ;)

Yup... Told @stickstones he should send Sarah back for a heater upgrade lol.

The beta team and I have been discussing rollout. The idea here is to do a soft start. Although we just completed our forth iteration of the product and most of the engineering and characterization is done, there still might be some small issues that come up with the FC100. I expect that any issues that come up will be small... Slight fit issues with the cap, battery contacts are to loos on battery, issues with finish etc. some of the issues won't change the design but will add rigor to the quality plan to tighten control over say surface finish issues like smoothness. We would like to issue 10 units first. These will be sold to the most active members on the forum. These units should provide the Lion's share of the feedback for the few things that need to change. After several weeks we will make any required changes and produce another 30 units. These will be validation units that will be run through the full official manufacturing process with all production parts (example first 10 may have hand made screen retention rings). These will again see several weeks of use while we build the remaining units to complete the order. The. The whole FC fleet will see another month or so of use before we start full production release. This process could take as little as a few months or could take longer depending on what we find. Given that with @stickstones recent input and the optimization of the temperature profile I will be surprised if @pakalolo finds any significant issues with his unit.

This plan is intended to get the units out as fast as possible starting with guys like @HD Springer who's pay to play attitude make them ideal early adopters. Folks with more patience and less appetite for risk is lower can wait for the later unit.

I have a feeling that the second 90 units will be 97% finished and that there will be six months or more before we change the design. The play is iterate and test test test up to production launch and then don't change a thing in order to gain stability. I don't see much changing other than the button... And yes, the FC100 team can expect special treatment from RBT hopefully for many years to come!

I feel like these guys are doing some serious due-diligence. You really get the feel that they do not want to fail(who does?). Has there ever been any OTHER way than pay for play?:\ :hmm::shrug:

Whatever you do, RBT, Don't name mine Jessica!
I love the look. The only things unwound change, just by looking, of course; is the knob sticks out a bit much. And it needs @Snappo 's wood. So much wood to be seen, it needs to be something exotic.

Yeh that is the solid brushed aluminum knob that @thekarmawhore will be recessing into the wood till just a 1/4" sticks out. No chance of sheering that puppy off on the drop ;)

Video with more detail and better lighting of Jessica as well as a tutorial on the Zion temperature profiles. As always all feedback is welcome so PM me if your shy.

A shout out to @MrPeanut for hanging in there threw hours of testing yesterday!
Yes yes yes!

RBT, this here Zion is continuing to look more & more like the powerhouse portable I've been looking for to satisfy my needs around the house & around at friends. And then some.

The way the temp rockets is very impressive for sure, watching that vid I was like "faaaaaaaaaaaaahkin helllllllll!" :o

And ELEVEN! ;)

Cherry good.
