Hard to really tell with the no-great photos, but my best guesses would be:
1.)Natural degrading of leaves?? Like how leaves have many diff colors on them in the Fall. I'm sure it's more technical than that, but you get the gist of it. After flowers are picked they naturally start degrading and this may be a result of that.

2.) If indoor grown, couple pieces got too close to the lights. I think I 've heard some refer to it as "bleaching" maybe...

Does it give off a funky smell or does it just smell like the pieces that aren't discolored?
I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about just based on the pics. :2c:

it does not smell any different than the rest of the buds. i have seen this before on a few buds and i never got sick from using them. but i do agree with you on #2, it seems like the tips of the buds got toasted from too much heat or too much light.

It looks like the grower had the lights too close to the plant, and possibly burned part of it. I've actually seen buds that this has happened to, and it looks like the same thing. (please don't turn this into a growing discussion because of my diagnosis, because that is off topic)

Do you know the name? Is it too dry? Does it taste and smell OK when used? Does it medicate?
purple kush. the buds are very dry. licensed producer buds do not smell or taste good to begin with, they definitely need a month or more of curing before they actually start to taste and smell a little bit better (but still not that good). i am not using this strain today because it serves me a certain purpose but i will make a note when i do.

If this is Wa state, I wonder if this is some of last summers harvest that wasn't packages well for future use? They had a bumper crop and some are holding into their produce until the prices go up. I wonder about the quality in the state rec stores?

Does it spread with time if you've had it long enough? Is it just on this batch and only on some? With the limited information we both have to work with, I'd agree with the rest about the lights. Light bleaching/burning. Maybe they touched the light for a bit and got hot? The rest of the buds look fine and covered in trichomes. Bummer about the taste and smell, that plus the possible light burn... can you obtain different stuff from a different grower?

Break up a bud and see how it looks inside. If it is bud rot u can smell it, touch it and definitely see it. If it is dry dont worry! Sometimes a bud can look like this if it grew too close to the lamp. Looks perfectly fine to me.

I believe it's light bleaching from indoor grown herb and nothing to be concerned about. If it was from heat it would turn brown. Too much light bleaches the color out of bud tips. I get it from time to time because of the design of my hoods and the hoods proximity to the buds. Sometimes it's white and I've seen chartreuse but what color it ends up seems to be variety dependent.
