Herb Grinders

This was happening before the grinder was even used, turning it dry would cause it to happen which was pretty weird.

You may want to look closer with a magnifying glass and see if there is a fine scratch. I hope that's not the problem, but we have had a few reports of it in this thread. If it is scratching itself, it's defective and you should contact the vender or manufacturer for a replacement. Please post a picture if you can.

I would check to confirm you aren't scratching the finish.

As @Kief mentioned, there have been some reports recently of defective SCS grinders, sounds like there was a bad batch made at one point.....

Does the top freely spin without anything loaded in the grinder? There should be no restriction when turning.

Sorry it took a while to reply, I was waiting on my new shredder to come through the mail as I had gifted my old one to a friend.

Unfortunately this one has the same problem. I played around with it and after a few turns a "resistance" started developing, which I believe to be metal on metal contact (and sounds like it is too) and leaves a white trail around the grinder. I think the vendor had a bad batch of shredders and hasn't restocked, so I simply got another dud which is disappointing.

Edit: here is a picture of what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/ENyYk4a.jpg

Hi

I'm thinking to buy a santa cruz shredder grinder , but i have a doubt !

Over time There is no risk the paint start out ?

Cheers

I love my SCS, it is a reliable grinder. I have not had any problem with the color finish (it is not paint, it is a chemical process to anodize color onto the metal).

Please note there has been several reports of defective SCS grinders recently on this thread - read the past 20 pages for several examples.

I suggest if you want to purchase an SCS, to buy it from an authorized vendor with a good return policy. (Ask them specifically if you can return an unused defective SCS grinder).

A new SCS should be smooth and effortless to turn. If you feel your new empty grinder seize or "catch" anywhere in the rotation, inspect the inside metal for scratches. If you see scratches, I suggest exchanging for another SCS (you paid good money for a good grinder, do not expect anything less than perfection).

Hey all, looking to purchase a high-end grinder finally. Just wanted to clear some things up. So I've heard that the SCS 4 piece has had problems with collecting keif and with the screen clogging. Is this true? I'm pretty much set on the SCS besides this. But any info or personal experiences help. Thanks!

I've heard that SCS has switched to a slightly less fine screen than the version I have because of users complaining that it doesn't collect enough kief. While what comes through the screen isn't 6* full-melt dry sift, it does come through much cleaner than what I've seen in other grinders. So, if it's collecting less stuff it shouldn't be collecting, the total collection will be less than one that does (did you follow that sentence? lol)

I do keep the screen in my grinders fairly clean and notice that I do clean the SCS screens a bit more often, but it's a non-issue for myself.

The bottom line is collecting trichome heads. The size of the holes in the screen will determine what else can get through along with those heads. Also important is the strain itself (quantity, availability and location of the trichome glands) as well as how dry it is (something wet may be too sticky to drop kief, or if it is a crispy critter, not only will the heads fall off easily, but all sorts of plant parts will want to mix in your heads stash).

What do you collect the kief for? Is it part of your ritual; just something you do, or do you put it to use for something like cooking? Others may have much more on-point suggestions along similar interests.

Personally, I'd rather vape what I grind rather than taxing myself a bit for a treat later - love the SCS grinders, but what I really want is to swap my 4 pieces for 3 pieces, but that's me ;)

Well, I usually sprinkle a little keif here and there when I smoke which is more often than vaping. But either way, I just don't like stuff getting clogged and preventing the tool from doing part of its job if that makes sense. Helpful response tho. Thanks!

Team NO SLEEP!
I may be in the minority, but I love my SCS 4 piece and have collected just over 5g in the year I have had mine (bought 4/20/2014). Being in a state that just recently legalized medicinal, but still have no access, I press and save mine for dark times when there is nothing available... extremely rare, but it does happen.

I am always glad I have a few g of pollen to fall back on.

My 4-piece scs's yield a decent amount of keif, always a nice treat when you want an extra kick or run out of flowers.
