CBD and seizures

Hello folks I'm a 29 year old that has experienced her first clonic-tonic/grand-maul seizure a week and a half ago, I was have seizures from the looks of it for several months in my sleep in my REM cycle before my first one conscious. But to be frank and honest after reading many of the stories on this forum and articles I feel safe and comfortable to talk of my issues with you kind folks :) As of almost 4 years ago I went thru a painful separation, And was also coming off of the Depo-shot of a 5 year use almost and no mensis while I was on it at all, but during the time I also dabbled in the spice shit for about 6 months. Shortly within all this I started to experience severe panic attacks and anxiety to a point I went to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack, at that point the doc said caffeine or cig's quit one that day. I chose the easier route of caffeine, being 0% caffeine it cut my anxiety attacks down my 75% I'd say. But did I still feel like the texas chainsaw massacre was still behind me...yes. Still making my life very difficult as I work in a fast paced environment as a Sever. Before the spice I was a frequent user of MJ for 10 years now and it's never caused me any anxiety of any sort. But as far as legality the spice was a crutch more or less as far as employment goes. so here we are now waiting on the MRI, I'm just so at a loss for direction at the moment. And I'm very anti-pharma so when all these doctors want to do is push pills down my throat without a full diagnosis and send me on my way..I've read so much for CBD and just looking for the right does for me for folks such as myself dealing with seizures and the right brand. I just want to be symptom free until they fig out what is wrong with me and stop poking me like a damn guinea pig. I'm just looking for a safer alternative that's all. Thank you folks for your time. :)

Thank you for the links there and the warm welcome :) Well some good news the MRI came back with nothing and no abnormalities. And a new Women's/family doctor I'm seeing, would also have me try a Ketogenic diet as well on top of the CBD use before my neurologist continues to keep upping my script and shoving this clonazepam and Lamotrigine down my throat. Was wondering if any folks with epilepsy and seizures as well have any experience with the Ketogenic diet?

Mrs. DieHard is dealing with NOT taking the Lamictal. Her doc took her off. Mostly that is a good thing. No seizures. But that Ned messed with her hormones too.

I use mmj for epilepsy, and I can tell you what has worked for me. First off, mmj won't work for everybody. Everybody's epilepsy is different, and reacts differently to drugs. I know some people who have been able to wean off their AEDs using cannabis as a replacement. I personally have been able to keep myself at a low dose of AED, while using cannabis to treat the side effects of the AED (when I was on Keppra cannabis helped with the irritability, anger, and emotional side effects. Now that I'm on trileptal, cannabis helps mostly with nausea I get from taking the pill).

On its own high CBD cannabis can be used as an anticonvulsant, but I would only attempt this after talking to your doctor about weaning off your anticonvulsant. I made the mistake once of stopping keppra cold turkey, and the result was my first grand mal seizure and a week in the hospital.

It's funny you mention spice, cause when I was in the hospital they accused me of being on spice, since I was too fucked up from the seizure to tell them I had epilepsy. Even once they knew I was a mmj patient with epilepsy that still accused me of being on spice. I guess there have been lost of people develop epileptic symptoms from using spice.

As for tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol, I've given up all three. Some people are ok having a few drinks, others aren't. For me it's the nausea the trileptal gives me that stops me from even having one. Alcohol is actually relatively safe while you're drunk. It's sobering up/being hungover that can be a MAJOR seizure trigger. I think it's too hard to dose right, so I just stay away.

Likewise, some people who are regular coffee drinkers, or smokers, have no problem continuing the habit. I find nicotine and caffeine really make me feel auras, but that's because I am not a regular smoker. When I was diagnosed, my Dr. told me that anything I do regularly, I should have no problem with (unless it's a known trigger like cocaine or methamphetamine), but change in habit can be a major seizure trigger. This explains why smokers and coffee drinkers can have seizures when they stop cold turkey, yet I could have a seizure from just a few sips or puffs. Everybody's epilepsy is different.

Finally, remember, I AM NOT YOUR DOCTOR. You and your doctor are the only people who know your specific case. I am just letting you know what I've learned about my own epilepsy. I don't normally post on this forum in fact, I just couldn't help but post on this subject since it's very close to me.

If you're looking for resources the epilepsy foundation is great. If you're looking to talk to people about whatever is on your mind, there is a very welcoming community at reddit/r/epilepsy.

It gets easier.

Hi MissMuffin, I hope your get some relief from cannabis use.

I help out with an epileptic patient who has been dealing with this disease for many years. He told me he went from 23 pills a day to 2.

He found having a level of cdb in his body helps a lot. I make cannacaps for him with half high thc oil and high cdb oil, that he uses daily.

I grow cannatonic #4 for its cdb content. (ive heard its the same as the more famous charlottes web) Lately I mixed it's oil with super silver haze oil. We use approx. 1.5 ml to 2.5 ml of the mixed oil to 1 fluid ounce of coconut ol and 1/2 tsp of powdered lecithin. Then we fill size 00 gel caps. And we keep them stored in the freezer. He also uses a pipe for quick relief if he feels a aura coming on.

With this routine he has a few petite seizures in a month and maybe a grand maul once a year or so. I hope you find something that works for you.

BTW other patients with stomach/gut issues and chronic pain and nerve problems, have also shown relief after using simular caps.

Good luck! And I hope you find some relief.
