Discontinued The Persei Vaporizer for herbs and concentrates.

Hello...I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with rebuilding the KISS carts..after an iso soak I clean the (dry) ceramic cup with a torch and the bottom falls out...I have about 6 broken cups, so I cannot rebuild the carts..I have a few left in service...Anyone know where I can locate and cups...I've looked around the net and have not found any...Thank you for any advise (except for "stop torching them you fuckin' idiot") I have already ceased the torch cleaning method
Gary..if you have a few lying around I would like to purchase them..
Honestly, I find it a little worrisome that the cups fall apart when torched, since I had kind of been led to believe they were able to withstand the same sort of heat that most of the different ceramic heat elements can handle. That's a bit disconcerting.

pretty sure id avoid torching anything at all that has a painted exterior or are you guys torching just the cup during a rebuild?

Well, I managed to get my top cap stuck in my Nibbler XL. I almost got it out, but in wiggling it side to side, managed to break the glass.

I'm guessing I'm SOL, but I thought I'd ask in there is any salvaging to be had before I get sad/mad and throw it away. I loved this thing, but don't see myself replacing it. Sad day.

Thanks @itschad. I was going to try it but shredded my orings on the sharp glass. I'll try smoothing out the edges, get some new rings, and give it a go. At least I know this could be viable.

It seems like he meant only the skillet, not the rest of the cart, and presumably to clean it like a nail. Obviously not designed with that use in mind, lol.
No component of the KISS cart was designed to be torched. I'd recommend placing all the kiss part pieces in a zip loc bag with minimal 99% iso to cover everything, seal it; place that in a bowl in your kitchen sink and fill with hot tap water. Soak and wash everything well then rinse with distilled water and let air dry before assembling.

Might be worth opening a support ticket...

Hmm, I like the idea of the warm water bath for my ISO soak, thx for the tip. I personally prefer the plastic bag over glass or silicon (used to use my OilSlick slick balls, but it permanently leaves them a nasty color), cause I can shake the shit out of it without hurting anything (figured that out recently -- wish I'd thought of it about 10 alcohol baths ago... Shit takes 1/2 hr at most, instead of 3+ hrs).

I think the Divine Tribe ceramic heating element torch test (and the pic from it that's floating around the webs) may have given some people the impression that all ceramics for vaping should be able to withstand a torch. Just my 2c -- I hadn't tried, thankfully, so I have nothing to be disappointed by, except that I'd kind of expected a higher break point.

If you want to save a whole lotta time and get more efficient results, just use denatured alchol.Just don't drink any of that shit. I also don't use it on plastic

If you want something a little nicer on paint (probably the same for wear on plastic -- I keep plastic and rubber the f out of my alcohol), try Everclear or Clear Lakes (~95% abv).

ragnorokk,
So I have an older Persei (no logo on the top) that I want to use w/ my sr-71 and/or sr-74(x)... I had read something about hercs possibly shorting old style tops, is this a concern?

Also, it's past the end of the month, where mah aCentauri deets at? ;)

Yeah, it's a concern, there's no short circuit protection in V1 tops. Make sure you test your Hercules' resistance before each an every use and you'll have no problems.

This IS my happy face..
When I rebuild a KISS cart I disassemble it, soak it in a glass jar filled with 90% Iso, rinse with water, lay out on paper towel until dry. I then take the ceramic cup and wick (separately) , hold them with tweezers and torch them so they are spotless.. the bottom of the cups just fall off when cooling..( I dont have a kiln).. then reassemble with kanthal.....I like the nice fresh taste of a "new" cart...I know I have ocd, but everyone need a hobby...Just wondering if any one found a source for ceramic cups and grommets....I'm handicapped and receive the bare minimum, so funds are always an issue...
Gary, If possible could you possibly source and sell the cups and grommets....Thank you very much..

joekar,
Lol
So I snuck into UPTech HQ on a mission of Freedom of Information act rights! The people deserve to know G. I'm publishing your latest blueprints so it can ease the tension we are all feeling right now due to this AC release!

Could be a bad top. Same thing just happened to me. The top that came with my Persei wouldn't work in 7.4v mode (would blink three times like you said). But it worked in 3.7v mode. I just happened to have a 3.7v battery/globe to test, or else I would have thought my Persei was completely DOA.
