Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

@p1ssbucket As long as it has variable temp contol you'll be ok. Wide plates might be a good idea too. An infrared thermometer might not be a bad idea if you haven't got one.

I had a go with some crap weed, crap parchment and straighteners that were far too hot but it still produced some nice rosin. I've ordered some better equipment now I just need to dial in my technique.

The 20% yields people are getting on the FB page are impressive. Being in the UK where concentrates are a rarity this is mind blowing. The thought of having solventless extracts here was laughable until 2 weeks ago.

Been listening since 9:30 am. Matt said he got 67% with one strain?, ok wow.. I thought the CBD rosin Tony got from that CBD strain for cancer patients was very interesting. This might be a game changer for some seriously ill people and rest of the extracting planet.

Wow, this thread really exploded.

Lot of great stuff is happening fast since legalisisation progresses and we all benefit a little, awesome. Just recieved my own iron to try this for myself with some fresh nugs, sadly have to wait a little until fresh buds fall into my hands again to try out.
Bone dry .5 test nug didn't gave anything measureable sadly. :(

In between time I will train my technique with this tool, first impression is a little bummer, at least for my type of hair I guess. But see for yourself:
Usage hints appreciated :D

I have ton of old buds that are dry and would crumble by pressing. I have been using these old buds by freezing my 4 piece Space Case in the freezer with a coin to make piles of kief to make them usable. It dawned on me to pr ss this kief with a hair iron, let you know how it goes.

I think the key is to keep hitting harder until you feel like you just did a giant dab? :hmm:  ;)

**Edit: Bummer you didn't get anything with your test run... Let us know how it goes with fresher bud. I love hearing about all the success people are having. Sadly, I haven't been able to test this myself yet :(

I tried with my girlfriend's babybliss hair iron , on the medium setting (not really sure what temp) with a medium pressure and had sucess with two diferent strains :)
Really really happy that this works, super tasty oil with very little effort.
I don't see myself messing with solvents again

No one has tried the tortilla makers posted a few pages back? They seem like a nice middle ground between hair irons and t-shirt presses, about $40-60 price range
ive been pondering them all along actually... but did any of them have a temp range listed?

what are some of the models we feel are best suited for this?

im literally on the fence and just need reassurance between a tortilla makers and a sublimation press... ive been looking at a 6x6 press so its not as big as a tshirt press.

Yea not too sure on the exact numbers on the tortilla makers (also flatbread), but I think in a pan a tortilla cooks around 325, maybe that range would be Med heat? With 2 sided heat and a big lever handle it just seems like a logical fit. I was noticing some technical problems Berfelo was having with the larger press and it just seemed a bit too much for anyone but a commercial producer. Also, have people been rolling/pre-pressing buds lately? That was something else I felt would have helped Berfelo, but pure conjecture on my part atm...

maybe the closest I've seen, doesn't say temp numbers but at least a dial and looks fairly sturdy.

I did the kief at 330f, measured on a thermocouples, for 4-6 sec and my impression was this was to hot and to long for kief, it burned and the results where dark compared to a fresh nug press however the amount from the .30g of kief was much more return then a press of a .30g nug, which make sense. Now to refine the kief pressing.

My CucinaPro 1443 tortilla maker should be arriving this afternoon, as well as the Conair Infiniti Pro and that dinky Proctor-Silex sandwich maker. I should have some results and comparisons to share tonight.

All the tortilla makers I saw on Amazon had one or two reviews complaining about the heat not getting high enough to make roti. I picked this one to try because it had reviews saying it was the most sturdy they'd used, so I'm gonna really throw my weight on it and see if I can compensate for a (possibly) lower heat that way?

Getting excited. I'll let y'all know.

Edit: Ahh just realized that my slick pads won't be getting in 'til later this week. I'll have to run out and pick up some parchment.

Cool, I'm very curious about a comparison! I've read similar models cook flatbread, which needs 350f in the oven, so fingers crossed ;)

GuyLeDuche,
I'd give ^Tortillamaker that a try right away if i wasn't worried about the lever handle not being sturdy enough for the kind of (repeated) pressure necessary.
If i spot one locally i still might.
Love the fact the experimenting yields immediate results in mere minutes with this technique!
The drawback for now seems to be not being able to make this somewhat easily/time-effectively in bulk yet.
:(
I have been having great succes at turning quite dirty and not so dirty fingerhash into nicely dabbable product by placing a little ball under a 20 mmØ steel Futurola pipescreen and pressing this quite briefly with low temps(150-160° Celcius, probably will be going lower still with new tries), works like a charm.:)
Also did the same with some just made ice-o-lator, resulting in very clear and very shattery goodness...:ko:
The results of some trim fingerhash which had been lying around for a few months at least were more dark, but just as shattery.
I can already seeing the collecting of this stuff as becoming a real pain...

Gonna head to the grocery store soon, is there anything specific I should look for as far as parchment paper?
