Indoor Hydro or Outdoor Greenhouse....

Ok, so my dispensary has two kinds of ChemDawg, one indoor hydro grown and the other is outdoor greenhouse grown. I've never had this classic strain before so I'm thinking' about getting' some but don't know which one to get.

Thoughts?

Depends on the skill of the grower, both can be screwed up, just differently. I prefer organically grown outdoor myself but this requires an understanding of many things like soil amendments, wind, drainage, cutting and curing. I feel a lot of damage is done to medicine by cutting too early and not curing properly or long enough. Indoor environments suffer from a whole different set of problems. Its like trying to live on a submarine, very closed, controlled environment and different ways of feeding the plant.

So I guess I didn't really answer your question. Sorry. But without detailed information on the grow its hard to say.

Let's assume for a moment that both growers are artisans that take great pride in what they do and both of them skill sets and the time to do what they do.

Why not try a little of both and see what YOU think? Are the mothers the same on these plants? Even if they say its the same strain there can be lots of difference between phenotypes that growers select.

If I had to choose I would go with organic outdoor every time but that is just me in my little "free weed world" here in Oregon.

I have the answer......get some of each! Then report the difference......for science, of course.:science:

Guess there's just too many variables to come to an answer.
@lwien - Generally I have noticed the bud structure to be "beefier" on the outdoor stuff. Less frosting but the trichs are bigger and sturdier, like little redwood trees. I also think the medicine is distributed throughout the plant more evenly on outdoor with indoor focusing the medicine on the surface. This is completely subjective, I have no "evidence" to back this up, not even pictures of both. Its just my observations over time so take it for what its worth . . .

Outdoor greenhouse is kind of a contradiction because the bud is still "indoors" protected from the weather, just not "in house". The main difference is sunlight s artificial light, in that case.

Outdoor greenhouse grown bud should be better quality than regular outdoor bud tho since it hasn't been rained on, blown around by the wind, picked on by bugs, etc..

In this case, I think the quality of the bud is going to depend on the genetics and the grower skill, since neither is truly outdoors.

Can artificial light really replicate natural sunlight in ALL aspects?

No it can't (unless you can modulate the spectrum and supplement UVB's and a touch of UVA's) but we shouldn't discuss cultivation on this forum as per the rules.

To answer your question this is fun because in the "Cannabible" series the author tried hundreds of strains around the world and came to the conclusion that in nearly all cases outdoors+organics was the best, spare one exception: Chemdawg! Which he found to be best when grown "chemically" (ie hydro+mineral/chemical nutrients) hence the name.

kinda scary but this really depends on the honesty of the growers and then of the dispensary.
while these are types of growing, they are also cute ways of marketing the different grades produced by a single run.
all the tips and colas= hydro
larf and younger bits= greenhouse/outdoor
this is usually shown in the pricing and growth structure.
if they have outdoor greenhouse now it is probably light dep/ "enhanced tek".

most selling od/gh label it as such to try and remove guilt from their minds.
"eh guy we got a good deal on this so its labeled as mids i mean od/gh and sold it. why you mad guy?"

or it really could be that bob does hydro and ron does od/gh.
bob does good work and ron waters.
if all things are equal the nugs should be the same.
my $ goes to the one that tastes and works best for me regardless of name.

Get some of each and take the Chemdog greenhouse/hydro challenge and post about it.

Sounds like fun! It is rare in my corner of the world to have such options as that.

I just got the greenhouse. It's good and on par with just about everything else I've recently gotten. Not exceptional though but very good.

Thank Iwien. I prefer organic but honestly if you gave me the pepsi challenge with it I doubt I could pick out which from where.

To me, its about the grower and the environment that makes the plant. Good quality growers of any system is going to impress. Its the ones that are not that good that tend to give a style a bad rap.

It was a a MMJ Farmers Market and the outdoor cost less than the indoor. I bought the indoor because I was told the quality is better. Good prices either way.

In Oregon the pure organic outdoor, for me, is simply the best. Plus it's free. You can't duplicate mother nature on this level anywhere without a lot of know-how and hassle, equipment and chemicals. I guarantee you guys the purity and quality of the medicine on the plant pictured below, is highly above most "indoor" or "outdoor" GH operations around here. Mother nature is your best guide, she just needs to be understood and helped a little a long the way with a few things like wind erosion control, soil amendments, watering and drainage cuts, harvest timing, proper cut and cure . . . if all goes well its the best, period, especially if you appreciate your terpenes.
