Zombie movies...

Who likes to watch zombie movies while baked?
My recent favorite is an Italian film called "REC" - it was recently remade domestically as "Quarantine" but the original is just much better.

I especially love tongue-in-cheek ones... Evil Dead/Army of Darkness anyone?

Another favorite of mine is I Drink Your Blood....




It's about a bunch of LSD crazed Satan worshiping hippies being fed rabies by a little boy, in effect, turning them into zombies, where they ravage the small town they stumbled upon...

I'll check out "REC".... I just watched this movie called The Outpostwhich was pretty good, about Nazi Zombies.

I have "I drink your blood" - haven't seen it yet.

Also, ever see "Fido"? About domesticated zombie pets. It's not what you think and it' well done.

Not a zombie movie but "I Spit On Your Grave" is a sicko classic.
Also the original "Basket Case."

Also if you like deranged Japanese movies, you have to see "Audition."

Also I liked the movie "May."

Not sure if "Dead Alive" will qualify. Not technically a 'zombie' film, but the things do come back from the dead, I think. One of the goriest movies in history, I think.

Original Dawn Of The Dead is bleak, and I love it.

The 'Zombie' or 'Zombi' series is good as well. Anyone remember the eyeball scene from Zombie?

Haven't seen that but a great "eyeball movie" is "Anguish" - about a psychotic eye doctor hypnotized by his evil mother to bring back all the eyballs in the city. The way the movie is constructed is very trippy - it becomes like mirrors facing each other, I won't spoil it for you - you have to see it.

Another fantastic "eyeball movie" is from the late sixties starring Ray Milland: "X: The Man with the X Ray Eyes." Has go go dancers, Don Rickles, and a most chilling ending. Very strange and stoned movie indeed.

Heard of it but never saw it. Awesome.

If anyone is a fan of Troma movies, an above average film of theirs is Redneck Zombies.

Also their new one, Poultrygeist, is not bad. About zombie mutant chickens growing from an indian burial ground under a fast food restaurant. Or something...

Great trilogy-spread over 11 yrs. I saw Evil Dead 2 first and had to wait 5 yrs. for Army. You can see Raimi's zoom camera style in Spiderman.

Check out a movie called "Dumplings" - ENG subbed, I think it's from Hong Kong. Very amazing. Some of the best horror films being made today are subtitled....

Saw a great one last night - "Braindead" from 1992 I think from New Zealand. An overbearing mother gets bitten by a rat monkey, after becoming zombified eats her son's girlfriend's dog and then when her ear falls off her head into the soup during a dinner party she nonchalantly eats her own ear. There's much more including a baby zombie. It's fantastic with a capital PD.... much better than Citizen Kane. Highly recommended.

Purists will probably give me shit but I really enjoyed Planet Terror.

That sounds great - IMDB review describes it as Sin City meets Braindead.
Also not a zombie flick but if you want a cool sicky from England, check out "Mum & Dad."
It's like "Eight is Enough" meets "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

Zombieland:

I went to a matine, a surefire small crowd. Very Launch Boxy.

Violently funny movie: listen closely for all the funny lines. Two-dimensional -comicbook characters: reminds me of all the depth of "Raising Arizona" : one of my very favorite flicks of all times.

Probably plays best to those who grew up playing Doom and whatnot.

Pretty good movie, definately a different spin on your run of the mill zombie flick so don't go into it expecting to be scared.

I thought....what the heck. My favourite genre of movie is post apocalyptic horror, and my favourite movie monster is the Romero type zombie (with some notable exceptions). I've probably seen over a thousand zombie flicks, including numerous foreign language zombie films with no english audio or english subtitles. A zombie flick is the only commercial DVD I've bought in tthe last five years or so.

Here goes;

-Pontypool (great Canadian movie about a zombie outbreak as relayed over live AM radio)
-Junk (A Japanese flick about low life criminals battling zombies in a deserted factory)
-28 days later
-Versus (Japanese movie about yakuza battling zombies of their victims)
-Wild Zero (Taiwanese movie about zombies, aliens, low life criminals and Guitar Wolf (find this out yourself hehe))
-Biozombie (Hong Kong film about an Iraqui soft drink that causes, uh zombies
-Shaun of the Dead (a RomZomCom Romantic Zombie Comedy)
-Deadlands (by Gary Ungarek from Pittsburgh?). An interesting Indie flick that uses bioterrorism as a plot device.
-Night of the living Dead (1968). Scared the bejesus out of me when I was 8 years old....what the hell were my parents thinking when they took me to see this at the drive-in....I'm already freaking out over the Vietnam photo's in National Geographic.
-Tombs of the Blind Dead ( a Spanish flick that sends chills down my spine just recalling the title. This film has everything; ghost horses, European castles, sacrifices, Knights Templar, night time zombies, and isolation).

These are mostly unknown or little known films; the biggest in my list is 28 days later and Shaun of the Dead. I've seen a $2000 film that was pretty decent, and a nice one from Minneapolis (Zombiez).

The most original one I've seen in the last couple of years was called 'Army of the Dead' made in Arizona/New Mexico in 2008 which features Aztecish skeleton warriors.

My favorite as always been the original Dawn of the Dead. Who wouldn't want to go hole themselves up in a mall if the zombie apocalypse suddenly sprang up. One caveat : the 2000ish remake sucks , if you want see this movie you have to rent/buy the original romero version from the 70s.

A more recent one I really liked was Planet Terror. Good zombie flick. Had no idea this was a zombie flick before a friend made me watch it. It was released in the theater as a double bill along with Death Proof. I recommend it.

I'd say Night of the Living Dead is pretty well known at this point. A LOT of people have seen this movie at some time or another. There is a ton of diffrent DVD releases. Here is some of my favorites that were not mentioned:

My favs are Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. I think zombie movies need to be mixed with a certain level of comedy. But the zombies can't talk or show too much intelligence (like in land of the Dead where zombies go back to their daily tasks like pumping gas and holding hands, how stupid!). I really like 28 Days/Weeks later as well as Dawn of the Dead though too (old and new, but new is best because the effects are better, imo anyway).
