Iso extraction canna caps

It seems a lot of you have low profile vacuum chambers, any reason to go with the taller ones? I'm guessing the main concern is muffin height, I'd be using mine exclusively for purging QWISO.

The muffin is pretty much all your worried about so you either get as large of a container as you can for your run size or you do a lil extra heat purge sans vac to keep muffin size to a minimum. Trying to reclaim from vac lid after a huge muffin sucks, I speak from experience :lol:

You still want to keep the surface area to a maximum using a vac particularly with bho purge because a vac is a stagnant atmohere with limited ability to penetrate surface tension of the extract. This is why a low temp heat mat minimum is a good a idea to keep the extract viscous to facilitate more rapid purging thereby helping to retain more terpenes from a more efficient purging procedure at lower temperatures.

Cool, thanks. Probably not an issue for me since I'd do some heat purge to make it easier to scrape. But with the vac I can shorten the heat purge and not have to worry about using higher temps, as well as get more of the solvent out. I think I do a good job now, but I want to do better if I can.

The BestValueVacs actually do seem to be living up to their name so I'll probably go that route. Seems they've made a lot of small improvements to the pump and chamber that makes it a more solid system.

@amberevil ,

My apologies for "getting" from this thread without "giving" back to your original requests for comments about your process!

Cook for about 250 for a half hour or adjust according to my sub par heat source, hot plat with oil bath between two pyrex. Keep stirring alot to mix it up.

I *did* want to mention that 30 min at 250F seems right in line with the time from the chart that skunk pharm uses : http://skunkpharmresearch.com/decarboxylation/

But I am wondering what decarb times other folks use? I ask because using the "visual drop-off of CO2 bubble production" method to determine when to pull (based on preferred oil character) I find my decarb peaks at 10 minutes or so, max. If I pull it then, much more energizing oil. If I let it run longer, I can definitely tell the CBN increase. If I were to let it go 20-30 minutes? I think my resulting oil would be CBN-heavy.

Now I *am* starting with a pretty high THC strain to begin with (a white wid that tested at 24.1% THC after curing), so maybe that is skewing it one way or the other (i.e. - more available THC in the first place might "offer" more starting THC that *could* be converted to CBNs)

Any thoughts and comments are appreciated.

And your thoughts, specifically as well, @amberevil - I know you said you end up with several different potencies, and I was wondering if your decarb time played any part in that (knowingly I mean).

Peace!

@Puffers ,

You mentioned you had a rig like this. Is there a way to "add on" to the exiting setup for an additional filtering system, like down to "syringe" size (I think they call it)?

I would love to screen down to 0.1 micron as part of a single process for screening, but I didn't know how far "down" you can go with a screen on the unit as it is. (Like, would I need a separate process and setup to screen down that far).

FYI, I use Everclear 191 as my solvent if that makes any difference.

Peace!

Sorry for no pictures but I did another run lastnight and the metal coffee filter really spead things up. But I noticed this morning plant mater at the bottom of my dish so I up so it filtered with a paper one. It was a lot easier with the bulk already gone from the metal one.

I might be reading wrong, but I have a feeling things are getting mixed up a bit here...

When talking about RSO, you are talking about oil that has already been mostly decarbed.

When using QWISO, QWET or BHO the decarb temps and times are as stated on skunkpharms website. For RSO I have no idea.

When making HAO I always decarb my absolute in a small tall glass, in order to more easily see the little CO2 bubbles escape.

I will mostly let it go for between 30-40minutes at 130C. If it is meant to be a night time medicine this is taken up to 90-120minutes.

There is a huge difference between taking the absolute oil decarbed in its pure form, and the decarbed absolute oil in the HAO mixture. Please try this!!! You will need less medicine to get the same effects! When made with amber absolute or winterized BHO it is a heavenly tasting little drop...

And I do not know if the lecithine might also smooth out the effects. I always use it, but have not noticed the same side effects from it as mentioned here.

I wouldn't coincider this a RSO or a qwiso, more of a cold lwiso (long wash iso). I think of RSO as kind of vague. He says you can use two different soulvents, thats not very specific. To me its cannabis oil with different variables.

I was unaware skunkfarm had qwet, qwiso, and bho had different decarb times. I really like skunk pharm and am going to check that out. Post a link if you dont mind.

Sorry for confusion. Qwet, Qwiso and bho have same decarb curve. rso is different because of heat used during that extraction method...
