Wow, everyone seems to agree the grasshopper isn't ideal for a first vape.

Welcome to FC! This soap opera of a thread is as good a place as any for a first post.

I am pretty bullish on the GH overall but I agree with your assessment that this might not be the right "first vape" for a lot of people. The uncertainty around whether the GH delivers notwithstanding, the GH appears to be optimized to deliver more of a "one-hitter" experience than a sharing / session vape. Agree with the Solo/Air as a tried and true, all-around choice, if you are willing to sacrifice portability/stealth. If portability matters, you might also look into the Pax 2. I know plenty of people who have had a Pax as their first / only vape and have loved it and the Pax 2 looks to be better.

Not that I think you'd be unhappy with the GH... looks like its going to be a very good vape - and all vaping is good, right? For not much more than a Pax2 you could buy yourself two vapes - a GH for your pocket and a log vape/eNano for those longer sessions at home or with friends. If you're like me and a lot of others here, researching and choosing amongst a lot of great options is half the fun.

Something to keep in mind. A lifetime warranty from a startup company is quite a different animal than a lifetime warranty from a company that has a bit of track record. If a company folds, their lifetime warranty means didilly squat.

EXACTLY

If someone does not have a lot cash to spend on vapes, and shopping for a single vape. This is not the vaporizer to buy at this time. Let the more fortunate FC members put this vape (and GH Customer Service) to the test first, and see how it goes after the first few months.

Regardless of a companies years in the businees... A lifetime warranty doesn't mean that much to me. Are people really going to be using the same vape 10 or 15 years from now? As new technology moves forward in the vape industry most vaporizors will become obsolete in 5 or 6 years. That said, IMO a five year full warranty is just fine for me...

Hey guys I emailed Trevor asking if I was in those 500 grasshoppers since I contributed within the first week. This is what he replied basically he doesn't know where everyone got that they were taking 500 units back with them. If you ordered in the first week you can expect it in April.

"Hi Leo,

Thanks for contacting me. I am not sure where the returning with 500 units came from. We are bringing some parts back with us but these are not completed units. If you contributed the first week it is aviliable you will get your unit in April! We will send you confirmation when we are about to ship it.

Best,

Trevor"
It was Buzz who originally made the comment about the carry on parts.

We were already under the impression that they were only bringing back the parts needed to finish the first 500 units as carry on, it was never about complete units.

The grasshoppers are assembled from parts here in the USA, so it was never possible they were bringing back completed units with them.

Well @BuzzDanklin told me that trevor told him that they were bring back 500, maybe thats what I was thinking of....I see though, thanks.

HillaryClinton,
If you only have $200CDN to spare for a vape, the Air is a more reliable, safer investment

This is a great point actually. My first (and only) vape was a vapor genie and I gave up on that pretty quick. Too much of a learning curve and never sure if I was getting right temps. May be wiser to start on with something idiot proof that will give a good baseline to compare the GH too

Thanks! It was a great read. I guess I'm lucky because I discovered this thread when the GH was announce and sorta forgot about it for a year. The backers must be seething with anticipation. ;-)

Lol, agreed. A lot of fun when it's your only option because the product in question isn't even available! ;-) anyone else guilty of watching Buzz's review more than once?

Idk I think the Genie is a great way to get into vaping without spending a lot and its always good to have if the power goes out lol, the GH seems very friendly to me, no real learning curve, the air is nice though.

I think it depends on when you got your Genie, I'll be damned if the older design wasn't more difficult.

Exactly. If I had it to do over again, I would have started with a Solo, instead of the sexy red firefly.

I'm sitting here vaping with my solo through a PVHEGonG (what a cool little stem that is!) and a bubbler, and it works great. And so easy, I don't even have to think about it: just do it. In fact, the crazy upside down orientation of the solo works well in this configuration.

That's the beauty of a solo: they are modular and customizable, and there is an after market catering to that. That's the advantage of buying something that a lot of other people have, which as been around for a while. You know what you're getting, and you have a lot of options.

Fortunately, the guys who designed the Grasshopper also made it relative easy to use with a bubbler, which was a major factor in my decision to pre-order one. It will service the majority of my use cases. And maybe they (or someone else) will come out with other customizations in the future. But only if it remains popular and sticks around long enough. Time will tell.

I think with any company it comes down to customer service. If there are issue with a vaporizer somebody needs to be available on the other end, email but also a phone number. For me that is the draw back with some of the companies. There's not even a phone number for contact.

Hopefully this company will turn out to be supportive and available to the customer. If they aren't, a lifetime warranty is worthless.

With a lifetime warranty they must have a lot of confidence in their product that they have produced. So that's a good thing.

Looks to me like a couple of engineers who opened an R&D shop with modest accommodations created a high-end high-tech vape in a relatively short amount of time on a shoe-string budget under intense pressure from numerous ravenous early adopters and vicious presumptive critics who shoot at anything that moves all in a day and age where nothing short of rapid-fire instant gratification will do ad nauseum infinitim phhht...

We can take a breath now - I think we're almost there;)! Relax!

I take it that the term relatively, as used here, is entirely relative

I fully intend on using my Lotus 10 years from now. I have a few back up plates as well, just in case MT goes under. I can't imagine butane being obsolete in the next 50 years.

It's just a very unique vape that satisfies my urge to use a flame in a pipe or bong type style of usage. Of course there are many other vapes that use a flame, but not like the Lotus.

In my experience I've had tons of electronic devices fail me many years later. Handheld, plug-in, whatever. It'll most likely break.

The lifetime warranty is a perk, not a selling point IMO, for many of the reasons others have said. If GH can replace the unit 5, 7, 10 years down the line, that'd be nice. It's not really about keeping this vape as your DD for 10 years but that you could have the GH in your arsenal for life. I think the MFLB is a little obsolete now, but I still like having it around and I still like using it.

I'll take the honest opinion of an unpaid vicious presumptive critic any day.

:2c:

Hell, I can even think of one vicious critic who has given all sorts of praise to the Snappo thread. Must be a really great business if even he is impressed.
Always love your posts!!! I have always highly respected brutal honesty, and you deliver it in spades!!! Much appreciated and so often quite sobering for the rest of us who sometimes suffer from over enthused inebriation! You are a breath a fresh air!!!
