Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I don't get a lot of vapor when I use my Ascent at lower temps. When I am trying to relieve pain or nausea, I need thick vapor. Next time I am at home, I'll try a lower temp to see how it works for me.
Of course the key for vapor at the lower temp is the controlled draw speed...which has to be surprisingly low sometimes. I just put my tongue in the vapor path and if it's a warm stream I'm pulling slow enough (I can hear the high school kids laughing at the description now)

Hey guys,

after 2 devices which weren't ok (last one had this cracking noise when heating up at about 180C - max. and finally died yesterday) I'm converting to arizer air. Wished it would have come in a different way. But gotta say, I was never convinced from quality... I had this plastic smell and taste even in the end. Never disappeared, only covered by the herbs. Both of my ascents had some plastic glue traces here and there, bowls had some dirt marsks..Definitely and poorly not a good quality material and finish for the price.
Loved the ascent even though, had nice experiments - loved my Ed stem wong as well as the black one... Even using the flowers was kinda interesting... But if you get bad quality devices and send them back to get a new one - and that ones making funny sounds and after about 1.5 months stops working comepletely, you lose confidence in that company. So guys, you have a great time with your ascent , hopefully lasting for a looong time. You can find me around in the arizer air thread :-)

Happy vaping mates

Always hard to hear of some other someone's misfortune with one of your favorite vapes. I liked my first Ascent so much, I bought it a twin just to keep it from being lonely.

I am certain they talk about me when I am at work. "When he kisses you. His breath! Does he ever brush his teeth?" "Only with bacon and licorice whips" "Ughh! Why do I love him so?" "Because he loves you, kid. Because he loves you."

I am sure they then both giggle and embrace each other closely, shivering and cooing until I return.

@HD Springer : I just gave it a shot, because it was long overdue and Sticks reminded me to try it recently, but hm, yes it worked, but it was clearly more wispy than usual and I couldn't really say it tasted better.

As I expected and noted in my previous "experiments", whenever the bowl holes are not fully covered, the vapor/air ratio is sub-optimal and the vapor feels lighter. Note that I don't use glass flowers, and the entire "puck technic" only works if the flat disc of material completely covers the bottom of the bowl and especially the air intake holes.

I got vapor but it wasn't as satisfying as usual, and by reflex I opened the bowl and tamped the bud mid-session to improve things a bit and it kinda worked.

As for the taste I don't know. I grind by tearing the bud with my fingers one minute before consuming it, so I don't think any of the flavors and terpenes have time to escape or get spoiled. It might be different if you have a large mechanical grinder and prepare some quantity beforehand. I'm not convinced that you can really destroy the smell by just tearing the bud apart with your fingers. It releases it though, so if you let it sit in your grinder for several hours it's clear you'll lose something.

Overall even if I might try it again "for Science", I think this method works best with convection vaporizers.

I"ve always used ground so the fact that loading was SO much of a breeze was nice. But the flavor was strong and lasted all the way until I cranked it to 430 at which point i stamped on it and got huge clouds.Wispy, sure but ive always thought that about the ascent at my low temps.Damn my flavor really did last a lot longer and with these spacers they are talking about i wonder what will happen?

Anybody on the fence about buying the Ascent should see the Massdrop thread.

Anyone on the fence about doing business with MD should see the MD thread.

Enough said about that. I just posted here as the original post didn't include the proper link. Done.

But excited about the new spacers! That's pretty cool they are opening it up to all of FC as beta testers. I have a feeling if we all put our collective head's together we can provide a lot of feedback, positive or negative. So the final solution should be really robust (and hopefully easier and more efficient than the glass flowers that some people hate dealing with).

Oh, and on another note:
Is it safe to ISO wipe the black silicone/rubber near the bowl?
Just avoid alcohol on the outside body of your unit. It can damage the finish.

The silicone should be perfectly safe with ISO.

Carol is, in part, correct about the outside. There is an issue with ISO on the rubberized finish of the Stealth model when the unit it hot. It has caused the finish to detach and bubble. I *think* it is safe if it is cold, and only when it is hot is it an issue, but I could be wrong here.

The rest of the unit *should* be safe to clean with ISO.

Carol --
Do you know of problems with cleaning the rest of it? Or do you know of issues cleaning the central panels on all of the non-stealth units? I'm not aware that is an issue, but I could have missed/forgotten this, so it is I'd appreciate being informed here if it is. :)

@nigel I just had heard early on folks were having problems with the ISO affecting the outside of their units . It was harming the finish, I don't remember about only when it was hot, it could have been, it's been a while.

I keep mine in good condition and in good working order. I couldn't remember if the whole outside or just the outside that has the rubber feel to it. Maybe the side panels are OK, I didn't want to take chances.

i didn't need ISO on the outside of my unit anyway it stays pretty clean. I make sure when I clean the center gasket area that I'm careful not to let ISO drip down. Maybe I'm too careful and particular but my unit has lasted since Oct. 2013.

I have used ISO on the gasket area in the center where the center meets and opens up, above the oven. It gets sticky in that particular area and I have had no problems with deteriation after using ISO there. I do wipe off with water after.

I just make a rule not to clean the outside of the Ascent with ISO. I didn't want to take any chances.

Stoked about the spacers - awesome.

Carol, thanks for the info. I, myself, don't recall issues beyond what I mentioned, but I know I have forgotten more than I know over time. :)
(And I'm sure as hell NOT going to go back and re-read the entire thread... a third time.) :)

If it helps, I still have my pre-release unit going strong in addition to the others. None of mine have had any issue with ISO... that I have noticed. This IS *NOT* to say it is safe, and people shouldn't rub down their units just because I haven't seen issues. But I too am pretty careful with mine (just like I have never opened my door more than 90°) so perhaps a heavy cleaner has seen issues.

Perhaps someone that did have an issue can chime in?

Yeah, after the sombreros didn't work, I'm glad they are turning to a beta for feedback on this round. We have a lot of really creative people here, and even if the spacers are rough (it *is* a beta after all), I'm sure by the time it is a real product, it will be really dialed in. :)

(I haven't seen nor tested any of the sombreros or the new ones yet, so I'm just in the dark as anyone, and can just speculate until I get my hands on some.)

It's good to know I'm not the only person that has more than one Ascent.

Neither have I, but I am very excited to beta test the new glass spacer. I'm using glass flowers now.

I am careful too when opening my unit. I only open 90 degrees because mine is one of the older models made from the beginning and some were having wiring problems at the mid section where it swivels open. I just don't want to take any chances, I've had a good run so far so good.

I have to agree the flavor from my vapor is wonderful with the Ascent. I get a very even results from my ABV, I hope with the spacer we will be able to report good results as well. I'm always excited to try new accessories.

I've got a strain called Pit Bull in my Ascent. It has the taste of citrus and lavender - need I say more.

Hey Everyone!!

We will be collecting emails until the end of the week, Friday, April 3rd. This gives everyone a week to get a hold of us and get their information down. Being that I am in China, the most effective way to go about this is a big list and a big shipment. That way there is less of a chance of oversight and missing people.

Please have your email address private messaged to us by Friday April, 3rd at 5:00PM PST.
