ABV / Jar opinions

Hi,

I have been collecting my abv since i started but have yet to do anything with it. It's now getting to the point that I need to either a) use it or b) dispose of it.

Before deciding I wanted to run it past you learned experts. I'm attaching a photo of the abv and I was wondering 3 things:

1) I really do vape until nothing else comes out, hence the very dark colour to it. So, is it worth it, do you think, or will it be pretty much spent (bearing in mind this was no high-grade product or anything like that)
2) If i do proceed is it worth doing the water bleaching/cleaning prior to canna-buttering it?
3) Do you think the jar it's in would suffice to cook in? It's not a mason jar per se but it did hold honey and has a screw cap.

Any suggestions, opinions, honesty is greatly welcome. Thanks in advance. I'm hoping the image appears as it's the first time i've used photobucket and even in the 'preview' part of this post it doesn't show the image other than a little grey box.

Sorry for the links, it's the only I could get it to work, not being familiar with the procedure. I noticed in other threads that members were able to embed images within the body of their text, how does one go about doing this?

Thanks for looking.

Greetings,

Over the past year, I too have acquired quite a bit of the stuff. The topic comes up all the time. A few of the most common methods people seem to mention when the topic comes up:
Firecrackers (Peanutbutter + ABV + Cracker)
Steal-Cut Oatmeal (the breakfast of champions)
Milkshakes
Brownies
Green Dragon
Cannabutter
QWISO
QWET
BHO

I have tried a variety of the methods above (but not all). I found making QWISO and QWET a PITA since I am inexperienced in the subject of concentrates. Brownies were fun but get boring - they were nice and low-dose which my wife enjoyed (she doesn't consume cannabis but maybe 3x a year)

Green dragon is ok, but flavor would be better if you add some fresh herbs to the mix

I have also made about 4 ounces of cannabutter with 1 ounce of pure ABV (nothing else added). I think it's good stuff (has a nice taste), but I think I need to try baking with the stuff instead of taking a small slice at a time. I think I'm going to try making a second batch of butter and see how it goes.

The method I use is a bit nontraditional, but it works great to keep the odor down in the house. I mixed 4 ounces of butter with 1 ounce of ABV and added some coconut oil in a vacuum sealed bag which I placed in my wife's Sous-vide (fancy cooking device, temp controlled hot-water bath). I set the temperature to 195F and let it cook for 3.5 hours (Next time I will try 5 hours). I strained/poured the butter into a silicone mold and tossed it in the freezer to harden up.

I know you probably don't have a sous vide, but I believe you can do the same thing with a crock pot (though it's a LOT smellier)

Yeah, I've wondered about that....if your abv is dark dark brown and looks almost ashy, is it worth saving it?

I try to extract as much as possible from weed...whatever my FF doesn't get, my E-Nano does. I'm left with dark dark brown ABV...which I then toss. There can't be much of use left, and for me, life is too short to spend time and effort trying to reclaim minuscule amounts of THC when there's fresh new potent weed to vape. :2c:

It doesn't take too much effort to do some "tests" on your ABV to determine how psychoactive it is :) What I would do:
1) Gather about 1.0-2.0g of ABV
2) Homogenize this in a coffee grinder, manual grinder, etc
3) Mix ~1-1.5tbsp Nutella with the ABV
3.1) Optional, but recommended: add in a teaspoon of Soy Lecithin if available
4) Spread this on two saltine crackers, then make a Cracker-Nutella-Cracker sandwich wrap securely in tinfoil
5) Bake at 320F for 20 minutes
6) Let cool and chow down, on an empty stomach if possible. Effects ought to kick in 45-60 min later. If you get a noticable buzz/high then I think you can ascertain how useful this ABV is for ya :)

If it does end up being too weak, perhaps you can make treats to give away to less tolerant/experienced friends?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you're interested in edibles/tinctures/topicals containing mostly or solely actives like CBD and CBN, it's in there. If you're looking for THC, you'll probably be disappointed if your ABV is just about black.

I gave a big bag of it to a friend of mine after I knew I wouldn't like the taste. He was a smoker and would just roll blunts with it to go to sleep. So there is some stuff in there, but the taste would've made me sick! But better to make his day than to throw something out...

I hate saving it just to give away for legal reasons, since the law looks at spent avb as being the same in every way as fresh top shelf buds.

I Knew people who saved jars of stems and seeds back in the day who wish they didn't after the cops found felony quantities of "trash" along with their few grams of fresh buds and ended up in Prison, instead of just paying fines and going to 'drug class' or only doing a month or two in county lock-up.

Everyone's Gotta weigh benefits of if it's worth even keeping for themselves IMHO. To me it's worthless.

I really like the idea of doing it in a vacuum sealed bag to keep the smell down.

That's no joke, fresh wet leaf and stems are even worse because of the weight it puts guys in jail in my neck of the woods.

Just like to point out I only keep ABV for a few days max, and its not much. I don't know how much you guys are talking about.

I used to store it and bake and stuff which was cool but I didn't like my place smelling like a Moroccan bakery.

Infact the ABV I usually re grind and vape at night is the same weed I vaped during the day on a lower temp.
189c daytime - 200c nighttime, to be exact.

I go where the thrills are
i've made a few things outta avb and when shared a couple people had good results but I only get a terrible Headache so I find it useless for me and just throw my duff out these days.

I see it as a waste product and garbage myself.

ABV, as a "vapable" product, really only has value if you like high-temp vaping. By the time you've extracted 80+ percent of the THC-related psychoactives, the ones that are left are the ones released at the temps just below combustion. While I don't get headaches, I agree with rudeboy's larger point...there's a qualitative difference (and a negative one, IMO) with the effects you get from that last chunk of chemicals. Some of us stopped combusting and started vaping, in part, to avoid (what we perceive as) the negative effects of the higher-temp psychoactives. Busting my ass to extract them from ABV just isn't in my long term stoner-for-life plan.

I do agree with sticks' point about it being useful late at night. I generally "finish" off my ABV at high temps in the Nano right before bed...or right before dinner. Those hits are usually closer to couch-lock "body" buzz hits, perfect for bedtime, or before eating.

I'm in a fortunate situation...I always have the choice between finishing the last bits of something pretty spent, or moving on to excellent fresh herb. It's really a pretty easy crossroads...I like to ensure I haven't wasted anything useful in my weed....but I don't wanna be a fanatic about it. Again, life, too short...fresh herb, too tasty....

Guys, thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I knew it was the best idea to ask you knowledgeable people. Thanks for all the ideas, I'm gonna try a couple. And thanks for pointing out that a quantity of AVB in the eyes of the law is the same as it green, that's something I hadn't considered.

@stickstones tried grinding it as you noticed it wasn't ground fine, and it worked, i got some more at a higher temp than i normally use. it d'idnt taste great but in times of need i can't complain,@mitchgo61 unfortunately we all don't have access to a ready supply. If only! The high wasn't as good but that's to be expected. At least it did something in these barren times.

i can pacify my mind with the thought that even if i do throw AVB away that had a tiny little bit left it doesn't really matter compared to what i probably used to waste when smoking it.

@nopartofme Thanks for your thoughts but I didn't really understand what you meant. Tinctures and topicals sounds a bit too exotic and involved for me (but I'd definitely try them if I knew someone here) and I don't really underdstand it. though i did just google it and got a grasp; Am i right in saying they're for medicinal/sleeping purposes?

@Ratchett QWISO and QWET? It's not something I had even considered either but being ignorant I had to look them both up...those processes look far too involved and maybe a lot more effort than they're worth with the product I have.

@zor thanks for your quickfire way of trying. Nutella or peanut butter's not something we use, what else would work do you think? Also, soy lecithin? Not something I had considered or possess.

Overall, given my situation (family man in a built-up urban area) i don;t think it's worth me going to the effort of cooking that AVB. Gonna grind it through, hit it again, and then dump it.

Even though I haven't mentioned most people I have read everyone's comments and they are all appreciated.

Yep, I've been there, as have we all. That's why for me it's a highly personal decision. But overall, if I thought a session's worth of ABV would yield me more than one or two not-great hits, I'd go for it. As it is, thanks to a high-temp desktop, really, when I'm done, there's almost nothing left.

Exactly. Gotta keep it in perspective...we're not talking about much waste here, if any at all, if you are extracting efficiently with your vapes.

Another suggestion, for those who do not like the taste of abv is to put in capsules. This will also make for easy dosing.

I have heard some people say that ABV packed tight in a capsule is much more effective then just eating it dry, non-packed caps (at same dosage), or mixed into to PB with no bake. I guess a capsule might theoretically deliver the actives farther into the digestive tract with less active loss packing them tightly could help facilitate that process even further.

I wish I could provide some personal refernce but my digestive tract is a finicky thing and I don't have nearly the success rate with edibles that my friends do.

Thanks @Puffers and @DieHard. Capsules is something that never crossed my mind. Having no experience of them is it a relatively simple process? Also, what's the likelihood of a backdraft? I mean, burping garlic is one thing but if AVB were to repeat on me that would be horrible I assume....

I've had great success using the "espresso" pot method to make ABV-butter - and it only takes about 20 mins and there is almost no smell.

There's a thread on the subject here:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/anyone-try-abv-butter-using-a-mota-pot.16800/

I just made a batch of chocolates using some ABV-coconut oil (instead of butter).

I've found the ABV is useful as a pain reliever and sedative - best eaten in the early evening.
