Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I'll take stoner memory credit for that one, I was also the first to get scolded for my lack of ascent cleaning

Ok. :)

I always brush everything off and brush out the bowl when I'm done. I already soaked my stems after 2 days use, lol

Ok, what is the deal with the Ascent battery? Is it accurate? For example, while charging, if the battery indicator says full, is it really? The instructions say not to over charge, and I don't want to hurt my new Ascent. I did the 10 hour initial charge, and been charging for 5 hours, even if the battery says full.

I now have a brand new Ascent, and a used one from the classifieds that is about a year old.

I'm not too sure about the overcharging thing, but with the 4 ascents I've had in my possession (over time) the battery indicator is decent. For me it's inaccurate while it's 'in session' but after a reboot or turn on, before the heater is engaged...its fine (in my experience)
On a side note the classifieds are gold, got a crafty for $100 this weekend

I came into the conversation late and profited immensely but I just skimmed the thread and missed the excoriation of WakeAndVape for lack of cleaning. I haven't cleaned mine either - just clear out the bowl and rerun. How often should I clean it and how? Pull out the glass and soak in alcohol? Anything with the combustion chamber?

I think this statement from @Davinci_vaporizer may help:
The Ascent is designed to display a full battery when it has stopped charging. It charges to batteries to max capacity of 4.2V. We are looking into a way to charge more efficiently, similarly to the way @OF's little charging gizmo works. Technology has definitely come a long way for these batteries, especially with the vaping craze going on with mechanical mods and the wide use of 18650 batteries now. Just in the past few years battery technology has progressed a lot for vaporizers and we plan on taking full advantage of that.

Depends, how much do you want your Ascent to reek when it's not sitting in a smellproof case?

I'd soak the inner glass stems in a tube of ISO Alcohol (buy extras! I've broken 3 sets so far! :cuss:)
Typically, every 4-5 sessions, I like to use an ISO soaked Q-tip and hit all the black plastic on both top and bottom of my Ascent. Every 2-3 sessions, I take a q-tip with ISO to the oven. Frequent maintenance helps reduce the cleaning times

For bad oven stains, I've heard people use a magic eraser with a pinch of water, but I haven't tried that trick yet.

Yea. Pull the glass stems out and iso soak. Also for the oven you can use a qtip with alcohol and a toothpick or something similar to get the hard to reach corners and it's better to clean it right after use, so everything is warm and easy to remove. And with the ascent you can tell when it needs to be cleaned because it will stop producing a lot of vapor if clogged. AND For stubborn spots you can use salt with iso

I've used the Mr. Clean cleaning sponges on my oven and it worked really good. I had stains I couldn't get out. I just tear off a little piece. I even used a tooth pick with the sponge on the end for that tight place where you set the cans, that little ridge. @OF checked it out, he thought it was OK. It didn't scratch anything that I could see. I'm really careful with my unit and try to keep it looking new.

Be careful when using any alcohol, it will damage the outside of the Ascent.

Hi carolking,

Which parts should I avoid wiping with ISO wipes?

OK. In the RMA email used for ALL repairs it specifically asks for pictures of the unit.
Here is a list of things we need for an RMA and this should have been emailed to you:
Include full name and address

Description of issue (with pic if you can)

Contact number

Color of unit

Name of website/store where purchased, include copy of receipt. (Purchase Price)

Unit serial number, starts with \1AA1, – (should be able to find it on box or below unit)

Now I have to ask, how was it shipped and how was it received? Was the packaging possibly the problem? We're more than happy to help you out, I apologize for all the inconvenience.
Adding "if you can" certainly does not make it sound like a required or really even important thing to do. If you are going to require the pictures for claims of cosmetic damage during warranty work I would definently suggest specifying that in the email you send out for warranty claims.

I'm really loving my Ascent so far! Every time I soak the stems, I clean the Ascent with a teeny bit of ISO alcohol, but only on the inside area where it swivels. It gets really sticky there after only a few sessions. I think the oil leaks out of the tiny holes of the inside stem.

I think you're missing a key point here, the suggested photos are to support the description of the problem (like 'display freezes' or 'smoke comes out..'), not to support your possible claim of damage?

You're making the claim, the burden to support it is yours. You can submit a successful claim without photos, but having them increases your odds.

Again, not to say anyone here might scam them ('it wasn't scratched when I sent it in', 'I sent 2 sets of stems'....) but if you don't think that's a real part of Customer Service you've never worked on that end of things. If you're 'smart' (IMO, having done it several ways) you log and inspect incoming stuff, handle it through an established and enforced procedure, then send it through Production Test and Inspection (including a QC stamp) like it was a new product.

Mind you, even extreme measures as those don't eliminate problems, but they do cut them down. It's nice to be able to say 'it worked properly when it passed QC and shipped, I'm looking at the log....'.

A tough nut for sure, but IMO any thinking maker is very careful. If they goof something up (scratch or break something) the parts are right there, they're going to make it right. Shipping is, of course another matter (we'd use a Polaroid (high tech for the day) to photograph damaged or poorly packed boxes).

These days photos 'in case' make sense to me, whether or not the maker suggest it. Or accept the risk.

Is it safe to ISO wipe the black silicone/rubber near the bowl? My first time after using the unit, I didn't think of cleaning before using it (my own fault). Later, I wiped the black area with a ISO wipe and a lot of black dust wiped off (manufacturing dust? not herb dust) Everything has been clean since.

Thanks for the cleaning tips - when I pulled the glass it was clear that it needed cleaning. Also thanks for the use tips far back in the thread. I am returning to this pastime after about thirty years enforced absence and thought the Ascent wasn't working due to lack of "clouds." I also misused the device by passing it back and forth with almost continual pulls thus cooling the load and weakening the efficiency. Based on this thread we now pack a small load, space it with an oil glass, and let the chamber heat between "sips" to devastating effect. Excellent product.

I get what you're saying man. Documentation by both parties is the ideal situation. In todays age of technology its nothing to snap a few pictures.

I do actually work in a customer service type situation as technician for tech support at my college. I know when we take a computer in we have the strict rule of "If it isnt documented it didnt happen".

Definitely not manufacturing dust! We boil out or silicone then treat it in an autoclave before assembling the units. Every time I clean my Ascent, I get a dark grime/dust coming from the silicone. It is absolutely safe to use ISO there, in fact I would recommend it. Just make sure to do a dry run on the unit first or you'll get a mouth full of ISO vapor.

I am having a nice long session with some bubble hash sandwiched between layers of herb. I also used several glass flowers. It's been 15 minutes so far and I'm still in deep cloud city! :smug:
What temps are you enjoying?

I don't get a lot of vapor when I use my Ascent at lower temps. When I am trying to relieve pain or nausea, I need thick vapor. Next time I am at home, I'll try a lower temp to see how it works for me.
