Discontinued Flowermate VT1.0

PPN

Volute of Vapor
A new vape pen from Flowermate is here, still available on australian vaporizers and a lot of others stores I think, i'm in touch with the manufacturer to get a test unit, it will be my first Flowermate vape!
Although it looks like an improved version of the G3 vaporizers from FM too (which was an INH knock-off)

This looks pretty decent with pretty damn good temperature range, 155-205 degrees Celsius. I wonder whether it's conduction or convection, If there was no grasshopper coming I would probably buy this.

It's both, as is usually the case with an enclosed heating chamber. You get heat from the bowl/chamber, as well as from the heated air being pulled through.

Not much info on this one yet, although I did find a mediocre review here - http://vaporizersreviewed.com/first-impressions/. Mediocre describes the reviewer's opinion on the vape, and IMO the review as well. We'll see if his 'too hot to hold' complaint holds up.
Its one of the ugliest things I ever did saw!
Then I guess your review is already in.

Well I don't want to know what you put inside your butt buddy, this is none of my business! :haw:

But thanksfully there are a lot of other vapes you could get instead of this one if you don't like it!

Really? It looks like a badly manufactured sex toy - some kind of butt-plug. Its even ribbed for extra pleasure!
I think you need to review the rules, since both of your posts on this model qualify as offensive.

Don’t attack products or companies. You can post your opinion, and you can criticize, but posts written to offend are not allowed.

ok... sorry . I genuinely didn't mean to offend anyone, was just attempting to be humorous. I am a product designer, have recently left a large consultancy and gone freelance and it ain't that easy getting work. Products like this frustrate me for the simple reason that it could be SO much nicer for not necessarily any more manufacturing cost. For a small initial fee, an independent designer could have proposed something far more practical and beautiful (that would be on-brand). Im sure this thing will work like a charm and be very competitively priced (like the flower mate V5 was) - not doubting that. The storm pen, for example, doesn't frustrate me - it is what it is - straight up and down simple cylindrical shape, no curvy sides and ribbed shapes, no visual 'clutter'. Im not all about 'style and no substance', far from it, but I'll never understand what goes through someones head when they decide to start adding un-necessary shapes/forms/materials. And I'll never understand why someone higher up the food chain signs this kind of design off!?? And I DO think that, in terms of visual language, this product treads dangerously close to that of sex toys! I'm not saying that to offend - its just my opinion and critique (I used to design the things many years ago!).

Anyway, my sincerest of apologies to anyone who may have been offended, that was not my intension.

Humor has to be obvious when all you're using is the written word, so two posts on nothing but how ugly it is just comes across as trolling. If your humor isn't obvious, you should at least add a ;) or .
this product treads dangerously close to that of sex toys!
What's dangerous about it? Is someone going to buy it thinking it's a bedroom appliance? The Storm/X-Max you cite actually looks much more like a vibrator than this one IMO. Personally I don't think it's ugly nor do I think it looks like a sex toy. I'm more interested in how it performs.

I think companies are just trying to make their vape look different/distinctive. There are a lot of models with similar size and shape these days.
my sincerest of apologies to anyone who may have been offended
Although we don't claim to be a G or even PG forum here, I do think your butt plug comment was over the top. Mostly you were just being offensive to the company, and in some cases company owners or reps are active members, so an offensive product/company post can overflow into the 'be nice' section of the rules as well.

But it's quit possible those "fins" are for cooling (as seen for instance on modern outrunner motors bells and many other objects that need to radiate heat away). If you go this route I find the two S&B recent portables very ugly and they don't look comfortable in the hand, but apparently the design decision was dictated by the functional aspect (and that didn't prevent the products from being successful)

If you think you could do better you could contact Smiss and propose your freelance design consulting services, they are very open to our feedback, and who knows, if they like your work they could hire you maybe?

OK, consider me well and truly 'told off'. I still believe I was merely expressing my opinion - I said nothing offensive about the manufacturers or reps! In fact I commented on how good the V5 was/is, especially at its price point. I also don't think my butt plug comment was over the top - it was a fair observation and opinion. I will say one positive thing regarding the form factor: It will be good for visually impaired people who have to feel their way around the product (I read a really quite touching review of the crafty written by a blind man who appreciated the shape and functionality of it. It was the first vape he could operate on his own).

Anyway, I don't want to derail this thread (as well as having mortally offended some people )

so.... bye:wave:

No you're not derailing it and my tone wasn't angry, I really meant what I said: go contact them and propose your ideas it could work.

It's just that there aren't that many ways to design a vape in "pen form factor" with a single 18650 cell and a hoven heater, most of them look more or less like a cigar or well, if you want like a dildo, excepted the grasshopper which is a breakthrough and looks really like a pen (excepted they used a way smaller battery and it's a different heater concept altogether)

There was also that other hyped "designer vape" which I forgot and looked like a giant crayola... lemme search... the Spyre / UpTooke here http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/spyre-uptoke-e-cigar.9105/

If you read the thread you'll see I made a remark similar to yours...

I may do that, I have several concepts for vapes drafted up, and a solid brand identity that could be 'spring boarded' from them. I'm just slightly cagey about putting work forward before NDA's and such have been drafted.

I don't think those fins/ribs are for function (in terms of cooling). They are perhaps designed to 'feel' your way around, and let you know your at the 'hot end'.

I'm not so keen on the mighty, but weirdly I really like the crafty with its 'military equipment' feel and engineered look - very reassuring. I look at it and can tell it has been designed for function - its obvious the heatsinks serve a purpose. There is a certain 'honesty' that comes from that. Nothing about it is unnecessary!.

Excepted the fins are known to break super easily on the S&B's... so the military equipment feel is only in your head... :p

I don't think the fins in this one are for feel because they are exactly around the hoven, ie. the part where you won't hold the device because it will be scorching hot. But I might be wrong.

Any mean to increase the air contact surface area works for cooling, even small fins can have an impact in that regard.

I have a VT sitting right in front of me right now and I must say I like it. It feels solid and the simplicity of the twist temp control is very nice. The top part feels like ceramic and does get hot during use -- not enough to burn, but still hot. The mouthpiece feels nice and actually screws on, so it won't fall off accidentally or in your pocket. The chamber is ceramic lined and is a good size, not too small, not too large.

I can try to answer any questions...

Great!

I didn't get any answer from my contact so I'm interested to know how big it is? how is the taste? battery life? airpath?

The G3 seems to taste very bad cause there was fumes, did you make a burn off? did you see fumes?

Sorry it's a lot of question

Here are some pictures... It's about 6 1/4 in long and about 1 1/8 in wide at its widest point. I haven't taken it apart, so I can't be 100% sure, but it looks to me like the air path is extremely short, not going anywhere near the electronics. Air goes in through two holes on either side of the heating chamber wall, up through the bottom screen, through your herbs, to the mouthpiece. I have done a couple of burn offs and haven't seen any fumes or any strong smell at all.

I'll try to post more later with more subjective data... =)

Can't wait to hear your thoughts @mrweed. Thus far I'm really satisfied with both units from a vapor production standpoint.
