MiniVAP Vaporizer

Ladies and gentlemen... the VAP is back!

My MiniVAP returned from Hermes with the glass core swapped out for teflon and further updated firmware installed. I eagerly fired it up and followed my usual practice of filling the basket and attaching it to the flexicone plus, which I run through the top. There was a perceptible improvement in taste, but still nowhere near the original.

However, I decided to reserve judgment until I experimented further. I began by trying the suggestion of @barnardbarnard and @mmafighterthe25 to load the chamber directly without using a basket. The taste improved, but the setup was messy as the ABV tended to accumulate on the flexicone screen and spill all over the place when I opened the top.

Then it occurred to me. I recently picked up a Crafty, and when I use it, I put a second screen on top of the load to tamp the load down and keep things neat. So I decided to use the small MiniVAP basket as a cap on the filling chamber. I also used the longer Herbie whip to cool the vapor. Et voila, delicious hits with no mess!

The taste is still outstanding, if not quite as full-flavored as the original. Fruity and sweet flavors come through beautifully. Any loss seems to be on the pine/diesel end of the spectrum. Even so, it’s a big improvement over how my replacement unit worked before servicing. To be clear, however, I don’t know if this improvement is because of the substitution of teflon for glass, my change in technique, or some combination.

Currently, I have the Herbie whip connected to the straw and hard cone (which I never used on my old unit). I preheat on pink for about 7-10 minutes, which highlights another positive about the current MiniVAP: the firmware update. It’s a lot less aggressive about powering down the unit when you first turn it on. It also seems the timer resets every time the temperature changes between hits..

After preheating, I load the chamber. Depending on how full I’ve filled it, I use either the small MV screen or the medium Arizer screen as a cap. Then I screw on the top and start ripping. The result is huge hits with the best all-around flavor of any of my current vapes!

Thank you very much for your review! I hope I'll enjoy the MV in the near future, too.

It also seems the timer resets every time the temperature changes between hits..

The software measures the power current from the battery to reset the timer, not the temperature. There shouldn't be a temperature drop unless @mixchu69 is hitting the unit with his iron lungs :D

Maybe I should experiment with loading in the bowl with the Arizer basket on top. Wonder if it tastes different. Only one way to see.

Gang-

First let me say that I REALLY value this forum, the kind people here, and the great advice. However, I'm not loving the fact that it's one long thread, so things get lost in the sauce a bit. Is it intentional that folks don't make a new post with a specific question to be answered, do people prefer it this way?

The reason I ask is cause I'm sorta desperate to find an alternate place to get flexion tubes, or if possible, an alternative that works equally as good. The only place I have found thus far is MV's web site, and it aint cheap.

But I'm really just looking for guidance as to he best way to utilize this forum. There's a nice amount of us MV users here, but unbelievably, NONE on Reddit except (as far as I can tell) me and my brother. It's insane! It's a wonderful place, and a great way to have informative conversations, but...no MV presence at all.

Thanks guys and gals!

Jon

I'm sure someone'll be able to point you in the right direction.

On another note.. Anyone who has had a replacement sent directly from Hermes, be it through an independent retailer or not, ever receive their unit having not been informed of it having shipped and thus was provided with no tracking number?

No further communication from Hermes since Alfredo teased me with the news my unit was repaired. I assumed this would mean it's on its way my man..
But alas no..
So.. I contact Vapefiend asking if he'd heard anything further only to be told that they(Vapefiend) had been informed Hermes would be sending it directly.

So basically I'm asking.. Could it be in transit and I just haven't been told?
Anyone have this happen and successfully received their repaired unit/replacement?

Edit.. Forums are run this way to keep them least chaotic as possible.
So many ways to ask the same question, the answers would become far more diluted as opposed to at least having a semblance of a chance of holding an audience which in turn allows more people with more knowledge to stay in the one place.
It'd kinda be like us all splitting up into our colour brackets of Mv ownership and venturing to the others only if our pool of respondents couldn't help. Chaos would ensue my friends. Chaos. :)

My hope is soon this year Hermes will get this whole situation with the bad units rectified and there won't be near as many negative experiences. This is one of my favorite vapes of all time ,I know you'll agree with me on that @Kommyknocker. Hope you get your minivap back soon man !

Every day when I run I pick the MV to vape with beforehand. The blend of vape high with the exercise high is just phenomenal. I always seem to push myself harder when vaping before as well...
Let hope the world doesn't end soon ,couldn't be without my minivap for too long ;)

Oh and @biohacker !
What did you think of the MV ?

Hey Kommyknocker, I got my replacement TCMV sent directly from Hermes last week. Alfredo sent me a brief email to say it had been sent, but no tracking number I don't think. Either way it didn't matter as I started getting automated texts the next day from DHL, which had a tracking number etc. It even gave me the option of having it delivered to a locker at the end of my street, which I took, so was able to pick it up at 10pm after a long shift. Everything has been a bit of a blur since then.... I guess that means my new MV works a treat :ko:

Hope you get a working unit back soon - this thing really does do the job!

P.s. forgot to say, according to my tracking number, my package was sitting in the DHL sorting office at my end for over 36 hours for some reason??

Another improvement on using the small basket as a cap on the herb chamber: I realized it works just as well if I use the small basket connected to the Flexicone connected to the top. The basket/flexicone fits like a cork. Plus I don't have to handle the hot screen -- it just comes off with the top.

The software measures the power current from the battery to reset the timer, not the temperature.
Interesting... can you say a bit more how that works? I've noticed that, between long hits, the light blinks for a bit then goes back to solid. It reminded me of how the Crafty goes red between hits when the temp drops.

The reason I ask is cause I'm sorta desperate to find an alternate place to get flexion tubes, or if possible, an alternative that works equally as good.
I don't know of any U.S. places that carry just the flexicone tubes, though I think Vapor Nation had plans to carry them at some point. At the suggestion of others, however, I tried the Herbie whip and have found it to be a very effective substitute.

But I'm really just looking for guidance as to he best way to utilize this forum.
Keeping all related posts in one thread allows you to get all relevant information in one thread-specific search. Searching individual threads with the search function is the best way I've personally found to use the forum.

Didn't something like that happen to @lazylightning recently?

@I.b.vaping I wanted to continue our convo here so we don't clog up the mighty thread. In answer to your question on the minivap does not cook loads while the bowl setup is in place. Hot air is pulled through the material by the user aka full on convection.

@Mrmrmrmr
I see you have a tcmv, but isn't the new gcmv a little bit conductive or heat radiant depending on the used setup and the technique? So it might cook the load also from what I read so far?

Edit:
@bigmouth
The battery of the MV is powerful enough to not let the temperature drop like the crafty let you do very easily with a single short draw. A good comparison is the mighty on full batteries or on AC: you have to hit quite long to reset the auto-shut-off with a 3 degree temperature drop because of the better power supply. Now think of how hard you have to hit the MV with it's isolated body and the very powerfull batts... Personally I'm not a bong hitter, I couldn't reset the timer for sure if it was regulated about temperature drops. But Hermes is smart, they thought of less powerfull lungs like mine and they don't try to minimize costs like S&B with just simply measuring a temperature drop. They measure the power current the core (or better the heater to be more exactly) is pulling from the batteries to keep the temperature stable. When not drawing air through the heater, the power current should be like a constant line, nearly always the same ampere, or probably more like pulling a small, known, periodic power current. When drawing air, the power current rises suddenly to keep temperature stable. This is when the timer resets. Not stupid these guys and way better in terms of longlivity than a pressure sensor.... But some of you might be able to drop temperature anyways and activate the normal heating cycle with the blinking led.

My English is weird and I'm fucking high, if something isn't clear please don't hesitate to ask!

@ Kommyknocker I have had several things shipped direct from Hermes and I always get firstly a DHL shipping confirmation email that allows you to track progress as well as text updates.

If they send you it on an express as they have for me in the past it takes less than 24 hrs amazing! I am in NW UK!

Best of luck I hope you get a result soon it's frustrating but worth hanging in!

Hey Mrmrmrmr I had the gcmv and it definitely cooked with the lid on!

My 2014 tcmv isn't cooking anything even if you draw on it! Full con-nothing airflow! :lmao:

Sry couldn't keep me from trolling...

Edit:
@Vapst: how was the kief load? I suppose it was good since I can't see you in the forum anymore!

@I.b.vaping
You had a gcmv and you didn't like it? Could you elaborate please? I have a gcmv in my shopping cart and I'm keeping myself from hitting the "confirm"-button...

Yes, after one of my best experience I had with this Kief vaping thing on my gc.
I properly should look like this now :mmmm:
and sometimes like :dog:

All I can say for today is, you need to try it.
Doesn`t matter which core you have.
This taste is unbeatable and also the high is very fine...
I see myself grinding everything i get in my hand, from now on... :freak:

Right now if I had to use only one vaporizer for the rest of my life it would be the Teflon core minivap. A portable wherever you want (albeit not very stealthy) and a plug in when it's comfortable to do so.
The selling point for me is the flavor. I am a huge flavor head and love to tickle my taste buds with new aromas. MV makes that happen in the best possible way.

That inspiring (;)) lame speech is what happens after I vape a small basket on green and run 3.4 miles mainly uphill with my pup.

How has @Vitolo never tried the MV???

Well I sent Alfredo a message seeking clarification of my issue to be told my core had been sent on the 19th March.
Only then did he provide a tracking number.. And low and behold my MV arrived today just as I was leaving.
Didn't even have time to plug it in or screw the battery on to see if it is indeed mended.. This'll be a looong nightshift

It's definitely my MV core just repaired as there are some slight but distinctive(to me at least) blemishes present where they were before.

Included in my package was a free flexicone + with an o~ring screen and a new looking large basket.
It's rim is extended and flares down into the basket .. Anyone else got these variety? Also the o-ring screen seems a little more cupped too :p

Edit: Imgur account is being a toolbag! A picture of basket is coming when I can get it to work.
