I have given up on vaping errl directly off a heating element. Too much of it gets burned, or melts and runs off turning into nasty reclaim.

have you used a coil/wick setup that absorbs the oil when heated? the donut is not a good option IMO because its not porous. the oil has nowhere to go but bubble off the sides. if that donut was porous it would absorb that oil and vape it perfectly. nothing would hit the deck except for residual buildup from the clouds inside. you have used RXW yeah...?

@2clicker I get amazing results with a wick. Even a tiny wick. I just have very poor results when there is no wick at all. I use RxW in a few different setups, but it doesn't work with donuts. The part of the heating element that gets hot must be in contact with a wet wick, to keep that vapor cool and smooth. I love being able to exhale vapor through my nose, something i cant do with a herb vape.

A brief quote from Vaper Joes's blog:
On the flip side one “prominent” vaper told me at VCCTN “to control temperature is a way to enter the dry herb market”. It did make me raise my eyebrow for a moment.

uh, what is RxW?

@215z why is it that you say you can't exhale vapor through your nose with an herb vape?

But I agree about loving blowing tasty luscious vapor, and that's why I vape 0 nicotine 95% glycerin juices for the taste and fog (the remaining 5% BTW is flavoring, e.g. sweet vanilla coconut caramel pecan) ;-) Glycerin (VG) gives the thickest and mellowest vapor.

The sad reality is that glycerin and oils don't work well together, so those are separate vapes.

so my Tobeco Derringer came today. looking quite good on top of my Prime mod i must say. the second picture is for scale reference. as you can see the prime/derringer combo is much shorter than the king/igo-w w/ capitall cap. have not had a chance to dab with it yet, but its tiny interior should provide really good flavor! now i need some errl...

hey friends, ive got some wick alternatives to RXW coming in within a week and cant wait to give them a shot. should provide a better flavor profile than RXW does. i will be sure to post what i find.

just had to say something. heh

Hey 2clicker, I sent you a message and I was also curious if there has been any development on this?

i will reply to that PM, but as for developments... none. i do have some samples sent to me, but i cant get an msds from the supplier... well at least they havent responded yet. so until i get to read the msds info i will not be working with it. unfortunately i am back to seaching for a new supplier/s. unless this other place gets back to me with msds soon. ill shoot them another email.

on top off all of that... i really only get to work on it in my free time. and this shit is competeing with another project im working on.

Hey guys,
Maybe you can point me to the right thread for this information.
I know y'all use 18650's in yer mods, and I've seen posts about Orbtronic here, so, I'm gonna share this with you all.
Orbtronic, my favorite battery company and reseller, has just announced they're coming out with a 3000 mAh 20A battery soon, and a 3500 mAh 10A, both 18650's. That's a real continuous 20/10 amps, too. Made in Japan.
Anyway, I'm excited.
So where else should I post this news ?
Praise the errl.

I initially had a dual coil build with SS mesh, but after a while it just wasn't working as well as I thought it should. When I first got my RDA, a stovetop coil seemed the most logical since it is identical to a skillet when done properly.

So last night, I made a stovetop coil that was bound very tightly to prevent drippage, and here is the final product:
IMG_0902.jpg

As you can see, there is a small piece of mesh that is underneath the coil. The hardest part of modifying the stovetop coil was figuring out a way to have a single layer of SS mesh underneath the coil that wouldn't fall off. It is crucial to have the SS mesh underneath, otherwise when the concentrate is heated, it becomes very runny and will drip through the gaps of the coil. The mesh is there to catch any drippage and since it is hot as well, will vape the concentrate instantly.

I first cut the mesh into this shape:
SS%20mesh.png

I pierced the rectangle part of the mesh with the ground lead, and used that to keep it in place, and I crammed the triangle part of the mesh through the center hole, twisted it to make it wider, then clipped off the excess mesh. When I primed the coil and mesh, I used some pliers to harden the shape of the mesh while it as close to the coil as possible.

I run this at 20-25W, pre-fire to load it up. The hit is just like from a rig, instantly vapes everything and you know there is nothing left because all of the vapor comes in a surge at roughly ~2 seconds. Hits extremely smooth and I no longer have the urge to cough after holding in the vapor.

One more thing to note about the stovetop coil build for an RDA. The only issues I see with it is there being no guard for splatter, which is due to too much concentrate being loaded or running at way too high of power.

The idea I have for it is to have a 2nd coil as an upside down cone coil with a large center hole, anything that splatters upwards will hit the 2nd coil and get vaped as well. I don't think this is necessary since the dual coil build I had before had insane amount of drippage, probably around 20-30% wasn't being vaped, but now it is probably in the 3-6% range.

nice, i've been looking for a battery venue.

i ordered some grade 1 titanium wire today. ill be sure to post results when i get building with it. excited!

also, i am forcing a patina on my copper Prime mod. so far so good!
man, ive been wondering when you'd update us. prett cool @2clicker .

great to hear of your progression.

ive been eye-ballin' mech's and rda's for a minute. w/ titanium and ceramic in mind.

well this is only for the wire. i have not had time to mess with new wick materials lately, but i do have a new build with RXW to show off as soon as my RXW order arrives.

ive mentioned it before, but think a coreless clapton coil, inside of a DBC. also, i may have to change the name of this new style. the shape has changed a bit. hopefully the wick comes in soon and i can get started.

Hey, someone posted this in coil porn last night. I was trying this build myself, but it proved somewhat difficult to construct. The way he built it was a little different than the way I was attempting it, but essentially the same thing. Anyone else try something like this?
BUCKET COIL

Also, I was contemplating something like this, but with a DBC/Stovetop/Hurricane coil underneath to collect any drippage. What say ye?

yes i have! accept the wire is fed through readyXwick instead of wickless. and my version doesnt have near as many wraps. basically its just like a DBC, but its coiled over a gradual point like the tip of a pencil to give you an idea. and it look like a tiny little tornado. bottom is pointed and the top opening is... well open. so you just toss a chunk of errl in it and you are good to go. if you are using glass and have to turn your rig upside down then after you place the chunk hit the heat a few taps and watch it melt/wick into the RXW like water. then you can use it in any direction w/out fear of spillage/drippage. i have only tried a small version of this and hope my package of RXW comes today.

ill be sure to post pics of the build. possibly today, but im home sick and not sure if i will be up to it.

so i got my Ti wire yesterday. and i gotta say... im confused as shit about it! haha

basically i will need to keep testing before finding what works well. the resistance is lower than that of kanthal so a 28gauge Ti coil is considerably less resistance than a 28g kanthal coil.

also, something that sort of worries me... i made a couple of wickless coils of this stuff to see how it performed in regards to how fast it heats up. one of my test was to force hot spots and see how it reacted. it did NOT react well. basically the wire gets red hot VERY fast and oxidizes. the oxidation left behind is colorful. and it seems the color is determined by the temp. at first the wire turned a really nice blue. then i really let the coil have it and it was so bright red. when i let off the wire was yellow and brittle. upon removing the coil the wire easily broke and i noticed that the oxidation came flying off in powder form. def not something we want to be inhaling.

another thing i noticed was that the wire comes dirty with machine oils from manufacturing. the wire i bought def needs to be cleaned before vaping off of it. i plan on using ISO for a quick cleaning after i take a length off the spool.

i am not giving up yet. i did make a coil that i could not even get red hot. of which is appealing to me. the testing continues!

Very nice patina and very interesting to hear about the ti wire. Made myself a bucket coil the other day and it works very very very well. Heats up very slowly. 10 secs before i start noticing some redness in the bottom of the bucket.

Also have you seen this tip? 510 drip tip Glass Percolator
