Yeah the guys on hash church were using screens with hash and bubble, not buds. They were only going up to 220ish F IIRC for hash/bubble/kief. I wonder if the ~100F increase in temp people are using with buds is causing those bubblebag screens to get funky. Soilgrown doesn't use screens. He said he tried it when he was using the flat iron but didn't have big screens to try on the press.

I have some 25µ SS screens from 316T I can try whenever I get some bud. Doesn't seem worth the trouble to use the screen with the small amounts of rosin coming from buds as it is easy to just pick the contaminates when you are pulling the rosin off (like John does in the video above). Whereas with hash/bubble/kief you will have much high yield so it would be harder to pick through.

I would argue that screens are essential for anything I'd consider dabbable.

I don't want bits of particulate in my dabs lol I run a clean, tight ship! :p

Still definitely use at least ss screens for any material you press. Apply a good solid bit of pressure with just enough heat. I have reduced my temp and now am getting shatter instead of sap :D

From the yields people are getting with bud I don't think I would bother pressing nugs in the normal single nug by nug fashion. Yikes to that amount of labor! lol

You absolutely can get good results without a screen. Just put the stuff with particles of bud in its own dab and top on a herb bowl or something. Save the clean oil with clean oil.

I get fully melting clean rosin without a screen. Kief or dry sift I'd definitely want a stainless steel screen though.

As far as needing to use screens goes ive had rosin were ide be suprised if you could tell the diffrence, it really depends on how dry your buds are.

What kind of yeilds are you getting with bubble ? I was under the impression 10-15% yeilds were ideal for solventless

I came across one particular strain that dosent like to scrape of the paper, makes me wonder if I can go even lower then 320f. Any one try lower temps with bud ?

I'm not sure if you're familiar with my work, but if it's aint crystal clear an dewaxed/sub-micron filtered like my avatar pic - I generally won't dab it.

I am a medical user and am only interested in putting cannabinoids/terpenoids into my system when I use mmj. The stuff I make with solvents is already first rate, I am confident that any FCers who've seen my work will agree :) As such, for Rosin to be worthwhile to me, it needs to be clean (as much actives as possible with as little inactives as possible!).

I believe there are still wax/fats getting into rosin, but the rosin I'm getting is otherwise unadulterated with any other kind of inactive. I have never seen rosin pressed without screens that didn't have some particulate in it. This is why I recommend screens. Others can do what they will, but I will not be dabbing anything that isn't getting me where I need to be ;)

I'm definitely getting results with lower temps than 320f. However it becomes difficult to maintain that heat in all points of your pressing apparatus and this may become a protip of diminishing returns depending on your pressing rig ;)

I am getting 50%+ returns from my bubble (which is to be expected, I have pegged the cannabinoid/terp content of this bubble from prior experiments somewhere between 60% - 72.5% based on the stuff I take out when I have used solvent based methods to purify the bubble into an absolute).

You should see the one I got. Bright pink. But hey it had titanium coated heat plates....supposedly anyway.
Mine is dark purple at least...
Has 10 degrees incremental(C) digital control AND ION technology.:D
Not sure yet what the ION does, cause i already vaped some 'Roseteched' Amnesia Haze...
Will have to look into that later...(or read about it here perhaps...?;))

Glad you have the ablity/knowledge to procces your own concentrates, I wish my living situation would allow it. It must be nice to be able to be for the lack of a better word, neurotic about what you dab.

Im all for the cleanest product and everything. I was just saying for refrence purposes its definitely not detrimental to use a screen when pressing moist bud. From my expeirence the end product dabs very clean and wouldnt want any one to get the impression that they need screens to try this.

Yeah I'm fairly picky. I'd only use a screen for very dry strains that more or less crumble into dust. I've dabbed at least a few grams of rosin now, my nail hasn't needed to be cleaned and the worst I've seen was a speck or 2 in the rosin I got from someone else.

Its fun stuff.

@2clicker just try it damn it! Low temp on a half gram nug. The latest batch I had tasted like I was chewing on lemons.

this is what stops me from trying this tek.

If you are trying to produce large amounts of rosin, the amount of time and work involved could definitely be an issue. Especially with a hair iron as opposed to a larger press. However, if you are just looking for a personal head stash, pressing buds is a pretty quick and easy process. About 30-45 minutes work with buds and a straightener will easily get me enough rosin to last a couple people a week or so.

interesting. i use errl more so than flowers. a gram of errl i can make last a week. i try to keep my tolerance down.

you think 30-45 minutes could yield a gram?

I think so yeah. I mean it takes 1-2 minutes per press tops including the scrape. What I'd do is sit down, have a dab, press some rosin while watching a movie. You'll piss through it in no time if you are distracted. Its just mildly boring, keep it interesting and you are set.

I have no interest in blasting anything anytime soon. Any time lost to pressing is surely made up with the lack of purging.

Honestly, due to the lack of people blowing up, I think this might be the tech that opens up concentrates to the European market. I tried it with import hash and the results were meh, but when I get the tech for it down I will spread it.

i still dont know for sure. i dont really wanna vape flowers that have half (or less) of the goodies in it. when i extract i want to get as much of the goods as possible. this tek seems to leave quite a bit left in the flowers. great for those with an abundance of starting materials, but no so much for those who do not.

cool for smashing out a few dabs every now and then, but i cannot see this replacing my qwet washes.

First try might take a little longer but once you get your process down you can crank out a gram in that time for sure. Depends on your starting material too.. It takes me anywhere from 8 to 16 grams of flower to get a gram of rosin so that will have an effect on overall time spent as well.

so at most your looking at a 3g return from a zip?

and then you are vaping the smashed flowers?

i think i would rather have a 5+ gram return from a wash.

With the flowers I have access to at the moment I have seen anywhere from 7% to 13% returns. Less than I'm used to from winterized bho runs for sure. Im willing to make that trade off for the time being as I have been really enjoying the flavor and potency of the rosin, as well as the fact that it is completely solventless.

If I had a large amount of material to run I'd be doing mainly bho or qwet, but I've been digging the rosin, even with the reduced yields. Been saving up the pressed flower chips, not really sure what I'll do with them yet.

I'm not gunna lie a huge factor in this for me is the whole absolutely 0 hydrocarbons aspect.

@2clicker I was thinking of just saving the pucks and throw them in my buddies Magic Butter machine. That or wait until I have a bunch and then do a QWET run and figure out what to do with it. Its hard for me to want to use solvents if I don't have to anymore. I was already about ethanol over butane, but this takes it a step further. Also if people are getting 15%+ now that seems to be extracting almost all of it. I certainly wasn't getting 20% return with solvents on my buds :/ So 5% less for no purge time, left over pucks (for whatever) and totally healthy DELICIOUS oil are my deciding factors. I dabbed some good BHO the other day, so I'm not an anti-solvent warrior now or something, but I want the majority of my oil to be solventless or co2 extract in the next year or so.

make edibles. save up the pucks and make a coconut oil infusion to make brownies.
