I have been using my lotus for about 18 months solid everyday and am on my second plate v3 I believe , and I started noticing it was darkening the load on one side of bowl and it seems harder to draw through almost impossible when hot so I took the newish plate off and the thinner two plates underneath are all bent and warped /damaged etc .

I assume its just a new cap now? as I cannot find this other thin plate as a spare part, its odd as it heats up you can hear the plate click and bend up sealing the airflow off :) .

how long have other peoples caps lasted?

I have done quite a bit of hash through it esp when I took it to dam for a week so it has done well suppose I will have to order a new one today....

That piece looks to have a 14mm male joint... You'd need a 14mm female to female adapter to use it.
Ideally you want a 14mm female joint for the WPA.

Thank you lol. All this glass stuff is tricky, was getting the female/male joints confused

bent and warped /damaged etc .

The "Inner Plate" is held in place with a special metal trim ring. When you looked at the inner plate, how was the outer trim ring? Was it fully secured or was it loose on one side?

My one lotus cap had a bent/warped inner plate, but it was working fine. It's not until that trim ring comes loose that you have problems. Sadly, the inner trim ring and inner plate are specially installed at the factory and cannot be replaced by the customer.

A cap will last as long as you treat it right! It seems going high in temperature or improper torch control can kill the cap, but in terms of durability, it should last longer than you if handled properly!

It can get pretty confusing with the various terms and sizes. Remember to watch for the frosted (ground glass) - if it's on the inside of the piece, it's a female. If it's ground on the outside it's a male.

:lmao:
:myday: In my day, we never had no frosted glass. We had to say that if it goes into something then it's male and if something goes into it then it's female, and that was good enough for us.

It seemed in place has got little tabs that push into wood around edges but I have removed it now to inspect damage properly and I would say its dead...... Prob def my fault as I have let a lot of others as well use it and have smelt singed wood on more than a few occasions .

BTW if I had known how much abv powder accumulated under that other inner plate clip I would def not have taken to dam with me I even air lined it and it was still there :|...

Strange, my cap is always ABV free...... I guess I prevent ABV blowback, and blow out my cap after every session

I'm really terrible at avoiding blow back, but I always blow my cap out.

Do we have any information about the higher-temp Lotus other than "it will probably exist?"

A lot of the cheap pieces are male for some reason. Riding the dabbing wave, I guess. Again, I don't think people should stress about 14mm vs 18mm. Adapters are available in all sorts of materials for very little money. The most important part about pairing a bubbler with your Lotus is finding something you love. If the piece comes with extras you can almost certainly ask them to substitute a reducer or two.

Like I said, most of the pieces you buy from pretty much anyone will have extras anyways. Just get them replaced with a reducer since you don't need the extra equipment anyways. I'm sitting on about 6 bowls that I'll never use because I didn't think to get reducers or anything actually useful instead.

So when I order them just ask for reducers or adapters instead? Do you know any specific retailers that do this?

Sunshine Glass is always pleasant and communicative. Make sure you message in advance, but they've been very accommodating. Their reducers are a little long, so be wary if you're getting a smaller piece. It didn't fit my 6" bubbler (though that was hardly a surprise).

I'm having trouble finding something cheap that is 14mm female. Is that like uncommon?

Why not get a small inline ash-catcher and pair that with the J-Hook? Actually for that matter, I REALLY enjoyed my Lotus with the Grav Labs J-Hook and a pinch of water (maybe 30mL) in the neck of the Hook.

I'm sitting on about 6 bowls that I'll never use because I didn't think to get reducers or anything actually useful instead.

I'm also sitting on a bunch of glass nails, domes, bowls, etc from my various glass acquisitions. I have heard reports of people taking those unused accessories to their LHS and trading them in for store credit. Results may vary depending on your LHS, but as long as you're clear that these parts are un-used, I'm sure they'd be cool with giving some store credit

Thanks for the advice guys! I do not have a J hook for my lotus currently. I really want something that uses more water though. Guess I am just being a little too cheap when it comes to glass

I have a couple ash catchers that I use with my J-Hook listed in my sig. With the Lotus it makes for a simple handheld water enhanced experience that I like a lot. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Edit: Gotta say I think this is my fav of the 2 as it holds more water, but I like the Grav Labs one also.

On another note, I think my favorite piece I did use with the Lotus was the d020. I had read people thought that you were to close to the flame, but it didn't bother me. I also used a 15" piece from Dhgate that the Lotus didn't seem to keep up with.

I agree. The Lotus, and for that matter, logs seem to work best in the smaller bubblers. The D020 is perfect for the smaller vaporizers, IMO.

That looks nice...what's the name of that ashcatcher and where did you get it?
