You should put in a support ticket. @SamuraiSam will take care of you.

Did you try tightening the screws on the V4 top?

torggzorz,
So I'm curious about the differences between the Persei and the 8. Can someone explain to me (outside of the adjustability of the 8) why I would want one over the other?

I'm using KISS Ti atty on a different battery now, and I figured I'd upgrade to something fancier that hits a little harder (Hercules, or maybe alpha centauri if that's an upgrade?), and Samurai Sam explained to me during a support conversation that I want a stronger battery/body if I upgrade to herc, but I'm at a loss as to which unit is "better" for my intents.

Also, the alpha centauri looks pretty cool, but with no released specs, I'm sitting around combusting herbs instead of ordering a nice wax vape... Halp!

the two little screws on top?

Yep, I had similar issues and thought my top was messed up till I tightened them down just a hair, them everything works fine again. It only takes them being screwed out a tiny tiny bit and it can interfere with performance

Some of the V4 tops didn't get threadlocker applied to those little screws. If yours didn't, I suggest taking them out one at a time and applying a tiny amount of blue threadlocker or red Loctite superglue with a toothpick, then thread them back in. Center the disc, then be very gentle when tightening. When you feel a tiny bit of resistance, go about one more degree and STOP! The threadlocker or superglue will keep it tight.

The screws are about the same size as those found on a pair of eyeglasses, so don't use more force than you would on a sunglasses screw :)

If you have any issues at all, if a screw fell out; if you're worried you'll strip something- please open a ticket and I will help get your top repaired.

Once you try the V4 top I really don't think you'll want to go back to a Hammer-less top. At least I don't!

The Persei is a fairly easy to use device with safety features, low battery cutoff, short circuit protection. It's designed to run the Hercules. The 8 is a mechanical device, meaning no circuitry or wiring. It has no safety features aside from a fuse for the battery's negative terminal, it makes a physical connection from the battery to the center pin (which is mechanically adjustable) and you can disassemble the entire device yourself and rebuild it with a small flathead screwdriver. It has no light to let you know when it's transmitting power, if you put it together wrong it won't work, and is geared towards electronics nerds and advanced users  It is a heavy tank made of stainless steel and you can use it with 510 or 601 threaded things.

Both units can power the Hercules:

I suggest the Persei to a first time Hercules user every time. The 8 is a step up, IMHO.

To be honest, I'd been planning on using a mech that could push the 7.4v, but I liked the KISS cart so much better than my stock skillet, I thought I might be better off paying the premium price for a brand I trust in hopes of getting a product I like enough to use regularly.

Is the protection provided with the 8 similar to the Vape Safe 2 cent I would be using if I had bought a mech previously?

Maybe you guys need a vape in-between those 2 models (Persei and 8) for people like me who are smart enough to take their vape apart and work on it, but dumb enough that a LED for circuit completion isnt a bad idea ;)

@ragnorokk Do you have experience with removable-battery mech mods? The 8 might be what you need.

I'm not familiar with the Vape Safe. The 8 comes with a safety fuse that snaps to the bottom of the battery, more than a few amps of current will blow the fuse, open the circuit, prevent the battery from doing something really bad.

Out of curiousity what is the maximum recommended amp draw/minimum resistance that can be run on the 8? I have wanted one but I am afraid my constant usage of low resistance drip atomizers would blow the fuse/melt the switch hehe....

The circuit board cuts off after 6 amps, if you remove the circuit board that's well uncharted territory.

The V4 top works with the 8 body? Does it fit flush, or are there gaps/ beauty rings required?

So far, testing has shown that any combination of all this stuff, works with all the other stuff. EO carts on 8 tops on Persei bodies. V4 tops on 8 the shorty 8 tube with the Core insert. Too much fun after work today.

I really like using my 8 with the 18350 core insert :D

Oh yeah. Had to scoop this guy, what with the Nibbler collection I've been building for the last year and a half...

The SR-74x arrived today. Thank you for the quick shipping. It is very nice looking piece and appears to be a well thought out design. I like that it is very easy to break down for cleaning or swapping parts out if needed. Looking forward to using this atty more in the future.. Thanks again

Does the Persei have a five click lockout feature so it won't fire if you want to put it in your pocket?

Depending on the version.

The tops that have v3 or vx on it yes they do.
tops that have just numbers don't and some tops that have v2 on it do.

Do the Persei's that are available now on the W9 site now have the v4 tops? Or if not which top would they likely have? Anybody know?
