If you knew the makeup of my family the last card you would play is the race card. Are your stereotypes showing or are you going to say your were repeating the repub line? In either case...bad form.

I get it though...your approach/solution is to repeat the negative facts to justify laying down and quitting ....... because it's all so insurmountable. To each his own...Your message is 'Woe is me' and mine is 'You can do it'.....I'll stick with mine.

If your wondering where I came to these conclusions .... its because you have not provided one single solution...positive or negative.... I on the other hand will continue to point out that if I can convince one person to succeed out of a bad situation I will have also affected those who come after and this my friend is not Horatio Alger or even Oliver Twist .... although I will admit that its closer to Oliver Twist because I want more and I want others to have more too.
Show me where I once said anything about quitting or odds are insurmountable. Show me where I said 'woe is me'. I gave you a good talking to about your undeniable and wrong belief that poor people are taking away money from you. I showed you a lot of evidence that the flow is going upward not downward. I talked about your idea that government should be smaller. Never mind that sequester has made our government smaller but meanwhile our bridges are rusting and falling apart. You won't admit any of my points and instead change the subject to 'you have not provided one single solution...positive or negative....'. What? We were talking about the two parties. You put up a couple republican bullet points as articles of faith for you: redistribution is wrong, government should be smaller. I responded to them. You can't answer so you accuse me of not offering solutions. Way to change the subject.

What is THAT supposed to mean, eh?

I have a feeling you may have been involved in a few heated threads AND you called a few ready to combust when I was thinking it was cold in here. I've come to think of you as the early warning system

You keep telling me I won't admit any of your points but what caused me to mistakenly surmise you were advocating just quitting (If I was mistaken) was.........my constantly agreeing with you about your facts and never receiving an acknowledgement that it was possible to succeed. I repeated it almost as a chant so I figured your responses must have meant you felt it wasn't possible to work hard and build a better life here so I took it to mean...I quit/woe is me.

Back on subject....If Jeb Bush hadn't smoked and dealt weed we wouldn't have had a chance at this lively conversation.

Sure it's possible to succeed. But for every Horatio Alger there are plenty who don't succeed. This is a fact, not a cry of lament on my part. No solutions are possible until you start understanding the problem. And the biggest problem right now is a Republican party that has become a nest of extremists and people who are afraid of primary challenge by extremists. The party is largely controlled by wealthy interests. If we don't wake up to this soon, the trend toward oligarchy will accelerate and you know what...

Couldn't agree more and I'm not saying that in any sarcastic way.

But he does bring up some good points, Scott. Could you address each one of them? I'm curious as to how you see those specific issues and how they do seem to separate the parties.
lol good points... you mean biased and exaggerated points?

So if R says "2 + 3 = 6" and D says "2 + 3 = 5", the politically correct thing to do is say "they are entitled to their opinions." If you say D is correct you are a partisan. Fair and balanced.

Horrible just horrible biased analogy.

Not at all. Address them one by one.........and try not to include any exaggerated bias.

It's one thing to call out someone but it's quite another to offer up an alternative.

Repubs deny evolution and global warming. Dems go with science. Two valid sides or one side is wrong and the other is right? R's promote trickle-down economics (known in the 1890's as the horse-and-sparrow theory: 'If you feed the horse enough oats, some will pass through to the road for the sparrows.'). Economists and dems don't. This theory has a track record. The experiment has been repeated over and over. Just recently Kansas tried an extreme version of it and is falling on its face. (Lately the repubs are trying to get the Congressional Budget Office to use 'dynamic scoring' on their cost estimates for bills. Hey, it never actually worked out in the real world but let's use voodoo economics for our budget projections!) One side is right and the other wrong. Correction, they are not just wrong. They are not even wrong. They are wandering around in a fantasy. Their criteria for what is right or wrong don't correspond to reality and they try to suppress evidence. For example the other day Ted Cruz pressured NASA to stop researching global warming on earth. You can't make this stuff up.

Thats crazy because I didnt realize Ted Cruz was every republican. Even most repubs I talk to consider the guy one of the biggest idiots of the party... But anyways some very nice logical fallacies in your post.

I will not address points that are based on exaggerations and biased reasoning. There is no reason to logically discuss an illogical point.

Ted Cruz is the chairman of the Senate subcommittee overseeing NASA. If Cruz is so marginal in the GOP, what's he doing in charge of scientific stuff? And how about James Inhofe and his famous snowball? These are the people the GOP puts in charge of scientific matters. Crackpots. Do you see anyone in the GOP publicly disagreeing with them?

From Phil Plait:
As Stephen Colbert wrote, brilliantly mocking this kind of ridiculosity, "Global warming isn't real because I was cold today! Also great news: World hunger is over because I just ate."
I will not address points that are based on exaggerations and biased reasoning. There is no reason to logically discuss an illogical point.
OK we get it. You just want to sit on the side and call bs every now and then without actually getting into why. Your bs is noted.

This actually is about all he can do because he has no way to answer the points. Opposition to gay marriage was part of the Republican party platform in the last presidential election. It has been for a long time. GOP politicians are constantly coming up with new ways to pander to homophobes. He has no reply to that and can't, because it's simply true! It's not a matter of opinion. For those of us in the 'reality-based' world it's demonstrable. The same thing with voter suppression. There is no evidence of voter fraud. We real-worlders are big on evidence. And yet repubs are ever more creative in figuring out ways to strike voters off the lists, limit their voting hours etc. When Romney was running for prez Pennsylvania state House Republican leader Mike Turzaieven bragged that their new voter id/suppression system would deliver the state to Romney! It's out there in the open.

Gunky, being relatively liberal myself, I generally agree with most of your positions on the issues in your last few posts. That said, I don't think ALL Republicans are as far right as you suggest. However, the fact of the matter is that there are very few "moderate Republicans" anymore. The Republican Party has been hijacked by the religious right and especially the Tea Party. As society as a whole is getting more liberal..for example, gay marriage, MJ decrimilization....the Republicans seem to be moving more and more to the right.. I think that's a losing strategy for them... There are many Democrats that can find common ground with a moderate Republican and vice versa, but with the rightward shift of the Republican Party finding common ground is difficult if not impossible!

And that is why the GOP will not win the general election. The further you go from the middle, the further you will go from ever getting the independent voters and without them, you can't win.

The GOP reflects the thoughts of a dying generation. Not a good thing if you want to win future elections.

And THAT ^^ is a prime example of a conservative mind at work.
You are funny... If I want to practice an exercise in futility I will go try to pick up some pornstars. For now I am fully fine with admitting that illogical arguments are not worth addressing.

Its funny because you guys are acting like I am a republican and have some reason to argue for republican beliefs... Im just here to simply point out how hypocritical some of the democrats in this thread are when talking about politics.

Thats cool and all but it is a logical fallacy to assume that just because one repub says something that all repubs feel the same way... the fact that you cant wrap your head around something so simple makes this conversation a waste of my time... its cool I get it you absolutely hate repubs and everything they stand for.

Republican voters are a coalition of various groups, like the religious right, single issue voters like anti-abortion types, hard core right wing conspiracy nuts, ''establishment Republicans", tea partiers, etc. They are not terribly consistent. But their politicians (and the policies they promote) have become remarkably consistent and are pretty good at staying in lockstep. The game they are playing requires them to constantly sidle rightward to avoid being out flanked by somebody still more rabidly right wing.

Hey just because the people repubs put in charge of scientific committees are wacko global warming deniers that's no reason to think this might be a GOP wide phenomenon, is it? So how many repubs do I have to quote denying global warming before you would see a trend? All these guys who say "I'm not a scientist". Check out the clip:

http://gawker.com/stephen-colbert-calls-out-im-not-a-scientist-climate-1656115561

I think you know darn well what's going on with repubs and global warming denial. How come they keep meddling in government research into global warming and trying to shut it off? This isn't just Cruz. It has been going on for many years. The Bush administration tried to expurgate global warming from all sorts of documents. The Florida state government is trying the same tactic now. Come on it's pointless to deny it.
