I wish the link to the Wings of Liberty was still up, in it there was a detailed video of all the internals to get a good idea of how it was going to function, that's what made me buy it in the first place, I know if Steven would have seen it he would have had it right the first time.

You mean this video?

I passed it along to Steven as well.

Hey guys here is prototype number one for the FC-CAKE. It is a larger size cake rig with 18mm female joint and matrix perc.
other_995115086_00.jpg

like I said earlier, it seems Steven is having some difficulty with the more complicated designs so I think we should focus on a few simple ones for the moment.

@Erwin pillar recycler is cool but let's wait on that. Are there any SIMPLE yet expensive designs you guys would like to see?

I suggested a Stem8 but the prototype is not ready yet

something small and simple to pair with the GH?
Maybe an improved pnwt? (i read about splashback and leaks in other threads)

@ChiefKeefe I agree 100% on China tree percs and discussed that with Steven when I first contacted him with the idea of doing a Stem8. I told him that the tree arms must be closed at the bottom and also reinforced. That the percs must be flame polished and if he cannot do a good version that it is not worth doing.

He already made one and didn't even show me. He said it was no good and he will have another made by tomorrow hopefully

the matrix to matrix sounds cool and doable. I remember when circ to circ was one of the most popular flower tubes and went for like $700+

OK, I think the idea of a larger cake rig is awesome, but I dunno about pairing it with a matrix perc. The baby cake is great because it has a simple perc in a wide-bottom can, so there's no chance of splash back. The matrix takes up a lot more space in the bottom and stacks like crazy, and with the can narrowing towards the top it directs all that stackage right into the MP.

Damn you, party liquor
Be nice to have that long of a MP on the FC187. That cake rig MP is almost too long. Maybe it's just the size of the piece idk

Thank you @Dangus I totally forgot to mention that the FC-186 stereo matrix is now available for sale.

@snackmaster yes the matrix perc does stack a good amount. The layers of the cake act as sort of a splash guard and should combat the bubbles from going in the mouthpiece. It just isn't working that great because of how tall the matrix perc is.

Do you guys think that the bottom layer should be made taller to better accommodate the matrix? Or should another layer be added so it is a 4 layer cake. All the ones I have seen are 3

Have you ever been able to compare this to a Mobius 60t? I used to have one till it broke and if this gets close in performance I am all in!

I say take out the matrix perc and put in a simple 4 or 6 slit vertical inline (2 or 3 slits on each side of the direct inject but make sure it is closed off on the bottom!) You should have zero issues with splashback :)

I'm also in for a shorter mouthpiece tube. Or a bigger body to match the long mp.

Seems like we already have enough high diffusion pieces. I want another flavor saver like the FC-710

Flavor savor like fc710. Put some thought into it. What about a double macro? Would that be possible for then. Small cans 14mm joint male. Percs sealed to bottom. American versions a few hundred if not like 350-400

This is it.

toro double macro

If steven can make stems like the one in the fc710 hopefully he could pull off a toro double macro? Obviously all clear no labels. I think its like 3 slits in each perc.

That double mac is already on dhgate. Bought a few a while ago. I'll see if I can find a link.

Yep Kathy has them for cheap ;) they are sweet. I sold mine but regret it. Maybe it's time for another one!

I also think this piece should be a prime candidate. Double tree perc. Trees are welded to bottom of the can. I owned the one that Yingmin makes and it was one of my favorite pieces. I sold it though because the quality wasn't very good (the joint weld was horrible and the mouthpiece had a hairline crack) and the joint is also not reinforced.

I would like to see a nicer, redesigned piece made by steven.

Really really really really smooth nice hitting piece.

I also really like the idea of a toro-style tree perc, but I don't think it's as easy to reproduce as many think. A good buddy of mine has a real 7 to 13 like @BoogerMan posted above, and the thing is immaculate. I've owned and hit a lot of tree percs over the years, both Chinese and American, (I worked in a head shop in like 2004) and that little toro is the most even-firing tree I've ever seen. And that's the reason people love them so much. You get a really amazing hit when every slit is firing at the exact same time, and I'm almost positive that level of perfection is beyond the skills of most Chinese glassblowers.

I'm in now way criticizing the skills of (most of) the glassblowers on DHgate, but the precision of that little toro is really at a whole other level. I feel like even a fraction of a millimeter difference in perc placement would kill the amazing-ness of the pull... We could get something that looked the same and worked similarly, but toro really does have their tree percs down, and I'm pretty sure that can't be easily reproduced...

Considering the post above yours said the Chinese one that already exists hit super smooth I think you might be buying into some Toro hype.

I've thought about getting the one above just to test them side-by-side, and this might be the conversation that convinces me to do it. The real ones are the most even-firing trees I've seen, but that doesn't mean that others can't use the design and still produce a good piece. I just can't imagine it'd be on the same level.

I just read my last post over and it does come off a bit like an add for toro... I'm really in no way that invested in the idea and honestly don't know too much about toro at all, other than that I'm really impressed by this one piece my friend has.

Frankly I'd still buy one if Steven took a whack at at.

EDIT: Also, I agree with @blankrider that we should stick to simple pieces for now. But can we all agree to put that pillar recycler on the back-burner for when Steven's skills get a bit more advanced?

Hey Erwin!

Here is a video of Yingmins double tree perc.

From what I remember, all slits fired evenly. Now I've never hit a 7 to 13 toro but if you put these two side by side I don't know if I'd be able to tell the difference. The pull was phenomenal!

I kind of wish I didn't sell it but the joint welds and no joint support and mouthpiece crack issues drove me to get rid of them. I also forgot to mention the mouthpiece does not even come close to lining up straight with the joint. It's about 15-20 degrees off. What I mean is when you are hitting it, the joint is not straight in front of you. It's a little off to the side. I Bought 3 back in the day and all had these exact same issues.

I've been looking for another piece like this with a little better build quality ever sense.

Well I got impatient and just ordered that Stereo Matrix. I really miss my real Mobius which is sitting in my closet broken. It will be interesting if I can tell a difference in the functionality since it has been so long since I used mine.

I'm pretty close to the edge of buying that double matrix perc! any thoughts from anyone?

I have that piece from yingam and my joint piece is a lot thicker then what is pictured but still not reinforced. Lovely piece though hits like a champ and is thick :)

After watching your video I can say for sure my joint area is a lot thicker

I'm not a big tree perc fan myself, but I have to agree that video looks pretty sweet.

I just wish the joint was secured to the can for some added support and I wouldn't be able to hold back.

....aww screw it, put it in my cart.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. Glad they at least made the joint weld thicker. Maybe I'll buy another one :)
