Thats fair! I can't expect everyone to have a steady hand, good eyesight, strength, or what have you, to be able to do every customization. That is where your skills and vinyl cutter would come in handy!

Price will be between $120 and $150usd. It depends how long each model takes to make, once I start batch production. I would like to end up somewhere around $135.

Yeah I'm not too steady or exact, but that doesn't stop me from doodling and sculpting, and I love you encouraging the diy and artistic qualities of vaporists! And spot on pricing dude, this has been such a fun journey with you so far

Not sure If I missed the sign in sheet for the club but I am a card carrying member myself

I can do many things but visual arts is NOT one of them. I wouldnt approach my (soon to be) precious Okin with a washable marker if some one paid me.

Now if you would like to customize my Okin, I would love that and would happily pay you to do so!



I am looking forward to see what our more artistic members come up with for their Okin though!

What do you think about temporary vinyl stencils? Different shapes/letters could be cut from a piece of vinyl which would then be applied to the Okin temporarily while you (or the customer) paints/sharpies/etc the exterior of the Okin. The vinyl would be 1-time use and disposed after the paint dries

I have a 30" Vinyl printer/cutter (Roland PC-60) in my basement. The print head is shit, but the cutter works perfectly. All I'd need to buy is some Low-Tack vinyl (so it's easy to remove after stenciling).

Ewww... sorry, no. Vinyl is everything that is wrong with living in a plastic world.... while it is useful in some applications, not for the piece of craftsmanship art that the Okin will be.

I agree, it's only temporary as a stencil so you can paint/etch/sharpie your own graphics on the okin. I'd use low-tack adhesive so it peels off without damaging the vaporizer

So here it is! This has got an Okin prototype inside of it, but it gives you the idea of what the production model box will look like. This box is made from padauk wood, but the production model box will be made from African Mahogany (which I think is an even nicer looking wood).

The corners are finger jointed for maximum strength. It's lined with cork on both ends to hold the stem lightly in place and dampen any rattling sounds.

The two kraft paper boxes are just folded and glued together. These boxes can be made from any thick paper, and cut to shape to give you whatever compartment sizes you want, with or without lids.

I think I'll provide an 8x10 piece of paper with different box sizes printed out on it. You can pick the configuration you like, cut the box out, fold it, and you're good to go. Having removable boxes is very handy because you can pick out a little herb box, then dump straight from the box into the Okin chamber.

The metal tip is held in place by the lid which slides over one of the bronze springs, depressing it slightly.

The box is shown here with extra fabric filter material, sewing thread, and beeswax. There is room under the stem for matches as well. And some extra room beside the metal tip for cotton (if you're using concentrates).

When the box is closed, everything is held securely, and the box can go right into your pocket. The configuration shown here holds 5 charcoals. I figured that most people will be returning home at the end of the day, where they can restock the box with charcoals.

This slipcase was finished with linseed oil and beeswax. I applied the finish unevenly to give it an aged appearance... in case anyone wonders why some parts are darker than others...

Anyhow, I'm super happy with how it turned out! It's lightweight, small, and durable.

The tip is looking very regal - much like a crown, sitting on top of the sleeve of the box in the 8th picture.

And the little paper trays - well they just look plain cute! They have an oldy worldy look about them. The whole package does. I'm thinking maybe 1920's?!

It all reminds me of something my Grandfather would have given to me, after carrying it for sometime himself.

Oh man that is so gorgeous, no wonder it took so long. But you really nailed it, definitely conveys that's old fashioned artsy steampunky feel and matches the Okin perfectly. You can really tell they are a complete set, an excellent value for $150

Nice work Dan! It really is a work of art. Even if I had no intention of ever vaporizing again, I'd probably still want one just as a collection piece to display!

I'm excited to have ordered a grasshopper for my stealth needs. But I expect the Okin to be the exact opposite. An end of the day, relax and enjoy the sunset vape.

How well does it work with another person? Is it easy enough to share then refill while the charcoal is still burning?

What a privilege to be behind the curtain while this is being made. I've been behind the curtain for plenty of other vapes, but this one is special! I'm a little more relaxed right now just thinking about the relaxing sessions this thing is going to provide.

This is definitely an end of the day, relax and enjoy the sunset vape, haha.

A single charcoal would be good to finish a full chamber with another person, so you wouldn't need to reload the bowl, which is kind of awkward with a burning ember on the tip, but not impossible.

Personally I feel as though If I was sharing with another person, I would set them up with their own chamber and charcoal so that they can experience the full spectrum of flavours from start to finish. But I also used to do that with pipes, so... your mileage may vary.

I like how it basically just hits like a joint after it's all setup. So people will be familiar with the technique of using it already. The learning curve is all in the setup, loading the charcoal, lighting it, etc.

Stunning, but the newest version seems to hold significantly fewer charcoal tips. For this is carry a real degree of portability, in my opinion, the box needs to hold the Okin, the herb, at least a book of matches, and a handful of charcoals; especially if the best way to enjoy it is the full session. If I take it somewhere I want to be ensured I can consistently use it. I carry around butane for my Lotus for that exact reason, but the appeal of the Okin to me, beyond its stunning good looks, is the ability to slip the box in my coat pocket and have my whole vaping experience taken care of until I can return to my water pipes.

stunning, amazing, impressive. a privilege to follow the process indeed. i was expecting it to be a small package, but i'm positively surprsed by the tiny size. my okin will definitely not have the status of a casual vaporizer, that i take with me just in case, when i'm out and about. it will only leave home on special occasions and i am not sure, i will be willing to pass it around.
i hope you already came up with a fast production process in order to satisfy the growing demand you create with your updates.

EDIT: one further question came to mind. manufactarung the box surely takes a decent amount of time and is playing a role in establishing the price range. are you going to offer a budget version with a box only made out of craft paper and corc with an option for a later upgrade?

I am so excited to get my grubby hands on this elegant exemplary example of exquiteness ( say that last part 5 times fast )

I was picturing myself using this and I was realizing that this probably is going to be the perfect relaxing session vape to enjoy the full spectrum of your chosen botanical. The charcoal starts off furthest away from the load naturally beginning at its lowest temp. As the charcoal burns down and gets closer to the load it injects more heat into the crucible allowing you to finish at higher temps.

I just saw your post on reddit and had to come say, this is the nicest presentation of any vaporizer I've seen before. I'm so impressed.

I might get the tar and feathers for saying that (bring it on ) but I have to admit I'm not too keen on the box look.

I find these 2 colours not to go too well together; @Dan Morrison would you consider making a black box (maybe african blackwood then) and a black sleeve with a brass like colour logo so the box would match the Okin head?

Maybe the current sleeve colour would go well with a black box now that I think of it.

Oh and does black cork exist?

Wow. Although this is my first post on this site, I've been following this thread and the development of the Okin for a while now. And after seeing everything you've posted, I must admit I usually set my expectations very high when I see an update from you. However, to my amazement, you always manage to exceed my expectations and put a level of thought and detail into the design of the Okin that simply blows me away.

Well Done. I look forward to the day when I can put it to use, and truly appreciate the work you've put into this.
